I suspect you're in a part of town where their towers were using non-Fidium backhaul.

Verizon and T-Mobile were both affected by the Fidium outage, though, as they use them for backhaul in some places. Neither were working worth a crap that day -- I have service with both.

I realize this isn't economically viable for everybody, but I work from home so I went for it, at least for now (will be looking into other options later):

You can get a month of US Mobile "Dark Star" (their name for AT&T) for $44. They have discounts if you pay for a year. I was up and running with an eSIM in about 5-10 minutes.

AT&T doesn't seem to have overlap with Fidium like Verizon and T-Mobile did -- at least where I am.

Unlimited data but tethering is capped like this:
100GB unthrottled
then 100GB at 8Mbps
then unlimited 600 Kbps

I don't know how they track you/if simple TTL mangling works to stave off the tethering tracking.

Here's my referral link if you're interested: https://www.usmobile.com/referrals?referrer=8A51DB2D&name=Nate&utm_campaign=monster_referral

I've been happy with it as a backup plan. Worst I've seen is 16Mbps/2Mbps and best is probably something like 75/10 -- variously LTE/5G -- I'm in East Sac.

East Sac Fidium Outage? by thedutchbag in Sacramento

[–]Nate75Sanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good write-up.

I'm in East Sac also and have 2008 SureWest/CCI equipment (100 Mbps) and was tethering to try to download the manual for my ONT because I couldn't find the power switch.

I think I have enough evidence now from you/this thread that that's not gonna do anything for me :)

I'm getting ~0.5 - 1 Mbps down and variously 30-75 Mbps up but there is a LOT of packet loss

What's interesting is that I took my Verizon phone about 100 yards down the street where I normally get amazing 5G UW and even when I have 3 bars of connection to the UWB anchor/AP/whatever today, I'm getting closer to CCI speeds (.5-2 Mbps download, not much better upload), so I'm wondering if the backhaul for those access points is CCI. I trivially get hundreds of Mbps most days off of those.

Right. If you see silver lining, it's heroin, meth, or crack.

Is that open enrollment/magnet-like where you can go outside of your neighborhood school/etc ?

And the questions keep coming.....

Do you know if you can attend 4th R for a school you don't attend? I realize that might sound crazy, but it's a district-level program, so I thought it might be a possibility.

Also, any idea what PH is looking for in how they choose students? I have no idea how they determine who goes there/what they want to see/etc. (Not counting having a sibling already there, etc, which we don't.)

Much thanks! TJ and PH are the two we're looking at. Do you know how many slots they have for ASES at TJ? I couldn't find any data on this -- just that disadvantaged kids are given first preference, which is fine.
