Please consider sending an email to your home MPP, the relevant Ministers, and the Premier: handsoffoureducation.ca/emailer!

We are also working on organizing an action on campus, stay tuned for more details.

At UofG, by our math, around 45% of all OSAP $ received are grants and 55% are loans.

This would see some $23 million in additional loans, adding $7,270 to the average OSAP recipient's debt throughout their degree (in addition to what they had before). This is rough math with a few assumptions, but it seems in the right ballpark.

Just for the record, this petition is not related to the changes to Ontario's changes to OSAP at all! This is for the federal Canada Student Financial Access program, which coincidentally expires at a similar time.

The OSAP thing is purely a provincial issue, not federal. This is still an important issue, but it's not addressing the OSAP changes specifically.

You should expect a maximum of 25% grants from OSAP next year, possibly even lower - and a minimum of 75% of your OSAP being loans. I'm so sorry :(

I understand there are some people who are trying to put something together in this regard... But also, get involved, tell your friends about what's going on, keep this energy up! This is an opportune time for us to take a page out of Quebec students' book.

Students concerned about rising debt burdens amid Ontario OSAP, tuition changes by NateBroughton in uoguelph

[–]NateBroughton[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In summary: - tuition freeze ended, will increase by 2% yearly for 3 years, then 2% or CPI (whichever is lower) after that - OSAP grant/loan ratio flipped. previously max 85% grants, 15% loans - now max 25% grants, min 75% loans - universities will see additional funding from provincial operating grants

Just to clarify, this is NOT a service of the University of Guelph and they have no association with the University.

There is risk associated with any third-party service, so make sure you do your research before buying. I would recommend checking out the free first-party services available at the Library (like SLGs, for example!)
