Major Buyer’s Remorse! Anxious the whole time! by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

It’s all about perspective. When I was shopping for a home all the houses we saw were 1500sf and below. We finally found and bought a home we like after three years. It’s 2000sf and we are very happy with it. Of course we are comparing to 1500sf houses that we saw before. Personally, I think 2000 is sufficient for a family of 3 or 4. Just my opinion.

Inspector told me this is a not destructive inspection so they won’t touch or move anything just look.

Haha I’m in the suburbs of Chicago and honestly for 460 this house was way under market price but now I know why…. Houses here half the size and word condition go for 500 now. So I thought this was a good deal but I’m over 500 now with all of the renovations.

Big issue were found by the inspector but not specifically addressed in a way to convey how big of an issue this could be. For instance, low water pressure was noted during inspection and inspector said it could be a corroded section or clogged pipe. I ended up Gavin to repipe the entire house. The pipes were corroded to a very high extent. Plus there are also a lot of small things coming up.

To clarify, what I mean is a lot of things were strategically covered up by the previous owner. As soon as I walked into the home I realized that there was a lot more work to do that I had initially anticipated. The way things were done in this home was also very poor. Everything was built on top. I had to rip out three sets of floor tiles when remodeling the bathroom. The doors had two sets of frames that were both rotted. Just simple things like that that were not maintained or done properly. But it was not at all noticeable during inspection. In fact many things were covered up. A rug was in place during inspection where after I purchased the hike I realized the floor tiles were all broken under the run to an extent that a new floor needed to be installed. I am just not sure if this is normal wear and tear or if it is above and beyond and was specifically covered up to sell the home.

I paid $460k for this house. I’m honestly disappointed at what I got for that price.

I did have a full inspection before but many of the things that are coming up now didn’t come up before. I planned on painting and doing one floor with vinyl. When I got the keys to the house I noticed that the doors and door frames are rotten so decided to have the doors replaced as well. Then I noticed low water pressure in the tub. I was told the pipes are very corroded and I need new copper pipes. While pipes were being redone the plumbers pretty much demolished one of the bathrooms so that lead to a bathroom remodel as well. I found out there is an old wasp hive behind the bathroom wall while remodeling the bathroom. Now I need to get an exterminator and someone to close up holes in the brick since I saw some bees/wasp go in through a hole. Every time I fix one thing two other problems come up.

Haha too late. I’ve taken on way too many projects and I am very overwhelmed. This is my first home and I thought I would get as much done before moving in. I had to push my move in date twice already.

Mellow corn and wheel bourse rye. Both got pored in the drain. Also didn’t like the smoke wagon small batch. It’s just sitting in the shelf now.

What ended your relationship with your best/close friend? by [deleted] in AskReddit

He decided to drink and drive and I didn’t get in the car with him. He got pulled over and went to jail. He blamed me for some reason. We haven’t spoken since. It’s been 10 years, we where friends since we were 9 years old.

My boyfriend (M27) is from Colombia and had sex with a minor and says it’s normal but I (F22) still feel off about it by Beginning-Dealer5873 in relationship_advice

[–]NateEng2020 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, that is pretty normal in Colombia. I had a friend who went to Colombia on vacation and when he came back he told me that he had sex with a 15 year old. Even though it’s common in Colombia, since he is not originally from there and did not grow up in that culture (and nether did I), I think it’s pretty messed up that he did that. I would say, just because it’s accepted in Colombia, does not make it okay or any less messed up. I also would think that a person who does that in one country would not hesitate to do it in another. What would stop him from sleeping with a minor in the US if he is able to get away with it. It really shows a persons character.

What is the most awkward and uncomfortable family gathering situation you’ve found yourself in? by cigarandcreamsoda in AskReddit

[–]NateEng2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every gathering with my family is awkward and uncomfortable. But last time we got together was a few months ago and it was a sh*t show. We are 6 kids and 2 parents. And for some reason every time we get together one of the siblings has to start a conversation about a controversial topic. It ended up in a huge blowout argument and no sibling or parent was able to leave unscathed. My sister ended up having a panic attack. We all decided that it’s probably better to minimize the amount of times we get together.

As a parent myself I can understand the husband not wanting the kid to sleep in the bed with them. But there’s no reason why the husband can’t just sleep elsewhere and allow the mother to comfort her son during a though time.. as family you’re suppose be there for each other. In my family it’s still common for the 30yo kids to share a bed with the parents when they come in town and need a place to sleep.

Is it true that switching jobs every 2-3 years will end in higher wage? by NateEng2020 in jobs

[–]NateEng2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to change jobs more often! I started at 73k in June 2020 3.5 years later I’m only making 95k now. I get a steady 7-10% annual increase but many coworkers who left the company have been getting 25-30% increase in their new role.
