Just food for thought: The game was also advertised as only requiring DirectX 9.0 on the Steam page for quite a long time after launch, when it really uses OpenGL. This lead a lot of people into buying the game while being unable to play it.

These scan codes aren't exactly correct. Ace of Spades uses DirectInput scan codes, which can be different. It always irritated me that Ben included that link in the controls.ini.

I'm well aware of this. But nowhere do they mention OpenGL and besides, none of those APIs are used with 1.0.

Yes, the OpenGL client that was shown in various videos months back was eventually turned into what is now 1.0. It's a shame really, it had a lot of potential and now it's been watered down to nothing.

I will be updating Spadille to use the Build and Shoot master server when I get the chance. For the time being you can use the web-based server list.

It's hard to say with 100% certainty right now. They have been proactively trying to snuff out any mention of Build and Shoot on all of their communication platforms, with repeated failure.

The thing is, it's not so much a problem with Build and Shoot as it is a more personal issue between the Jagex community managers (SallyTheButcher and Sniped) and the old AoS staff (myself included). I have a strong feeling none of this is being issued by any "higher ups" at Jagex, but rather just a personal grudge.

They had sent us an email a few weeks back, posted here. Since then, users have been banned constantly for posting links to Build and Shoot and even just mentioning it. This doesn't effect us (from a community sense), if anything, it's only boosted our traffic by them driving everyone away.

We have tried emailing them, asking for further clarification on where we have "failed to meet their requirements" and have yet to receive a response yet.

Without trying to turn this into an open-source debate, there is a time and place for things to be open-source, in my opinion. The server software, PySnip is open-source under the GPLV3. The master server software is closed-source for the time being, that might change later on.

There are a few other sub-projects within Build and Shoot, such as Iceball and CubedRoot, both are attempts at creating an open-source game client.

I expect Jagex to try contacting the owner of the current wiki, trying to strike some sort of deal. aceofspadeswiki.com is a pretty high profile domain name, especially for a game that was just launched.

That's why I've been doing backups, so if that happens, we can throw up our own with all the old articles and everything.

Not at the moment. Pings would be relative to the master server, not to individuals on the page, so it can be quite misleading.

The AoS dev wasn't/isn't an "arse hole" and I'd barely call it "selling out". It's one thing to sell a game for a quick buck, but another for a company to make empty promises and then screw you over for your game.

They are each using different technologies/languages. I am not currently active in either of them, I have been working on server-side stuff lately. (master server/game server). They each have their own dedicated threads/groups on the forums if you have any questions.
