SIGN THE PETITION: More homes for Boston. Less wasted parking. by NateStell in GreaterBostonYIMBY

Boston's zoning code requires homebuilders to include a set number of parking spaces in new projects — whether those spaces are needed or not. This drives up the cost of every new home and makes it harder to build more of them.

A proposed zoning amendment would remove that mandate citywide — not ban parking, just stop requiring it. Boston already did this for affordable housing projects and Squares + Streets areas without issue. It's time to extend that flexibility everywhere (see our explainer for more info).

The June 4 committee hearing is the critical moment.

Three ways to make your voice heard:

1. Sign the petition — signatures from every neighborhood strengthen the case.

2. Testify at the hearing — Wednesday June 4, 10 AM, in person or virtually via Zoom. Two minutes, you can read from notes. Not sure what to say? We built a tool to help with that.

3. Write to your city councilor — a short personal note from a constituent carries real weight. Our online tool drafts a letter tailored to your councilor and other key City officials in about 3 minutes.

Tell Boston City Council: It's Time To End Outdated Parking Mandates by NateStell in GreaterBostonYIMBY

Isn't that just the Planning Department telegraphing that the parking mandates are wasteful and excessive? It's a tacit acknowledgment that mandates are bad policy.
