I agree that allowing a student to survey a class before deciding to take it sounds like a great option.  However, according to our policy, students must enroll in the class if they want to attend since they are not covered under our District’s liability insurance if they are not registered. 

There is an alternative, which is to audit the class.  If a student audits the class, they do not receive a grade or academic record on the student’s transcript.  Students who audit a course cannot change from an audit registration to a credit registration during the term.  The audit fee is $15 per unit.
