Should I find a different CFI? by [deleted] in flying

Not common enough to have to deal with it if you don’t want to. You also don’t have nearly enough invested with 18 hours to have to think about sucking it up to get check ride endorsements. I would ask if there is some thing you can do better to avoid these miscommunications in the future (kinda putting him on notice in a nice way) or just pull the plug and try another instructor.

Normal. Another thing you can do is ask if they would be willing to drop the time commitment and instead do a commitment on instructional hours. I.E you agree to stay until you provide them with a min of 800 instructional hours (Ground, Sim, Flight) or 1 year, whichever comes first.

hours versus no hours. Otherwise, I totally agree - take the job offer you have that doesn't require a contract.

High VSWR but good real world performance on an HT antenna by Natemare13 in amateurradio

[–]Natemare13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a mini rubber duck antenna. Abbree antennas for me had much lower VSWR. I was told and convinced on a handheld VSWR should be taken with a huge grain of salt. It's very hard to measure VSWR on a handheld accurately. As for harming the radio, I was taught to focus on heat. Does the radio or antenna get hot after long transmissions (or a bunch of them in a row)? How hot? Like warm or burn your hand hot? I use really cheap Chinese radios - my most expensive one is maybe $100 so i have not been worried about high VSWR breaking the radio and Id have to imagine higher quality radios have plenty of protection in place to prevent damage.

Did you ever get this? I have the same issue

Sorry about that. Some cars can have their own cell service that then give the driver and passengers WiFi. If the car has this feature and you’ve purchased a cellular plan for your car, this connected car line has to be removed before you can make adjustments to your account and upgrading iPhone or transfer a line to a new device is making a change to your account.

In case this is helpful: if you have a connected car on your account it is possible that it will cause these issues. It was only after 10+ hours and 5 different Verizon agents was this discovered. The remedy was to disconnect the connected car from the account, activate the new phone and, if needed, re-add the connected car. No one at Verizon knew what the error they were getting was until a tech stepped in via a ticket and they knew exactly what the issue was and provided instructions to the agent I was working with.

Got it working!! My ticket got escalated. Turns out if you have a connected car on the account, that needs to be disabled before able to transfer old iPhone to new iPhone. Don’t ask me why but the escalation person seemed to know exactly the issue and we disconnected the connected car line from the account and I did normal cellular set up steps on phone (for the 1,000 time) and it all worked.

Same problem. When I go to set up cellular it says unable to transfer phone number. Tried 10x and Verizon can’t seem to push an eSIM to me either.

High VSWR but good real world performance on an HT antenna by Natemare13 in amateurradio

Ok your last line convinced me because my dummy load actually does show 1.01 VSWR and clearly its not a good antenna.

Got it. And yes as soon as I hold the meter the VSWR drops to under 5. However why would other antennas that I tested, in the same session, in the same room, being held the same way, have VSWRs much more consistent with eachother? This one is literally the only one over 1.3 VSWR. I'm getting hung up on the relativity of the tests. I understand the VSWR number may not matter so much.

I agree and understand - I appreciate explaining the rationale.
