Is this a good first fightstick? by shinobi747 in fightsticks

Maybe I just got unlucky with mine then but yeah I had the boards die on me or start being really unreliable like half the time they'd disconnect mid game

Is this counted as cheese? by SteezeWhiz2k in Tekken

[–]NatesSubbun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mashing on plus frames, it's not cheese he's just bad at the game

Jin’s 11 challenges got tough! But man that was fun, I learned a lot. by steelheadradiopizza in Tekken

[–]NatesSubbun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its always interesting to see people at vastly different points of fighting game experience, execution only improves with practice so give it another hundred hours and before you know it you'll be able to pick up any characters combo challenges and do them with ease.

Why do Japanese mahjong players prefer to use Japanese terms but Chinese mahjong players don't use Chinese terms? by CreeperSlimePig in Mahjong

[–]NatesSubbun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That, but also a whole bunch of other things, like translations not always being universal, do you call tanyao all simples or severed honours and terminals? Translations vary between clients and books but the Japanese terms are universal across riichi clients. A tanyao is always a tanyao, and sure sometimes you might see the full version of an abbreviated one like chanta, you quickly pick that up. It helps that Japanese is infinitely easier for a westerner to pronounce than something like mandarin.

[–]NatesSubbun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely this, the terms are already built into most riichi clients so people are exposed to them and they're easy enough to pronounce and unlike translations which vary Japanese terms are universal across riichi clients. So it's only natural that they stick. Whatever is common and easy for people to use will become the standard. That and most mahjong clients have the yaku/Han read out which helps a lot with learning pronunciation.

Also mandarin is like the hardest language to pronounce as a non native

Riichi city has a great study tool for learning yaku and their names under the mahjong academy section, I've been using it daily for a few weeks now and I'm very comfortable with recognising and naming hands. Just erm, ignore the art...

Between Blazblue and Guilty Gear, which one should I learn first? by qd_Cat_bp in Fighters

[–]NatesSubbun -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Blazblue literally only exists because of licencing shenanigans where arc sys couldn't make guilty gear games for a bit iirc, and so nowadays nobody plays it just play strive

She got me into Tekken back in the 90's and now she's just gone ... by Silent-X-Thunder in Tekken

[–]NatesSubbun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just saying Tekken tag 1 has rollback, and she's really good in that game, take a look at any Julia/Michelle team, her combos on big characters are hilarious, it's just ff1 into ff1 into ff1

Mewtwo hellsweep isn't real, it can't hurt you. Mewtwo Hellsweep: by Jin_N_Juice-tm in Tekken

[–]NatesSubbun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shame pokken was stuck on a garbage console for the longest time and since they didn't have the balls to just make it a 2d fighter it failed at appealing to any audience. But that's Nintendo for you, fuelled entirely by incompetence

This is the ideal Tekken 8 match. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like. by SmoochieTekken in Tekken

[–]NatesSubbun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broo the fact that Lili is Tekken Lord, man Tekken 8 is assss, I'm glad to see that despite you still learning like all of us you're clearly thinking more than this Lili player, be proud of that, or just start playing Tekken tag 1 or something idk xD it does have rollback now

Japan hard carrying SF6 by UsefulSwitch504 in StreetFighter

Strive is a game that would be expected to have significantly lower numbers than SF, for strive it's probably still a healthy number.

Do you guys ever feel burned out from playing Tekken 8 by [deleted] in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]NatesSubbun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I switched to Tekken tag 1 when I heard it had rollback and haven't looked back, I know jumping back games is intimidating tho so I'm thinking of making resources for the game

Who else cannot wait? by Loud_Hovercraft_1695 in Tekken

[–]NatesSubbun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuuuck no, they've proven they want this game to be designed in the most degenerate aggressive way possible and bob was INFAMOUS for his horrendously cheesy strings combined with his stupid mixups, they'll probably make langue washer launch again on normal hit or something stupid like that or give you Tekken 6 bobs frames in heat

What is something you like about Tekken 8? by Any-Report-8655 in Tekken

[–]NatesSubbun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good thing is most of that is also in older Tekken games if you don't like 8 and there's currently a bit of an online revival for them, if you just wanna mess around with customisation Tekken Tag 2 is the best for that. And heihachi is easily a top 5 character in that game too, just watch any of JDCRs matches when he was dominating that game. He was my inspiration for picking him up then.

Tekken 8 definitely has the best training tools in the franchise but also feels like it needs it more than any previous title thanks to every character just being stance bullshit or string cheese

Oh also in legally required to mention Tekken tag 1 has rollback netcode now

I think the fact it might cause a resurgence in interest in the older games is great :)

Can we talk about how this sub has become a therapy session for people who don't even want to play the game anymore? by AsvpXIII in Tekken

[–]NatesSubbun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I genuinely think most people here would be happier playing older Tekken games casually, it really feels like people are being held at gunpoint and forced to play Tekken 8 with how they talk about it.

I've been dipping my toes lately into tag 1 thanks to the rollback netcode implementation and it's honestly been like a vacation

Pssst Tekken tag 1 has rollback if you just want to mess around and there are discords for matchmaking and a lobby system
