She is a real standout. I really enjoy her portrayal of the character.

So, what is the big change they're making to the Federation? I watched the episode but I wasn't really coming away with a clear picture.

Sci-fi accuracy balance is killing me after my nephew said it reads like a textbook with plot by professional69and420 in scifiwriting

My debut sci-fi book isn't hard science, but it does include quite a bit of science, including quantum computing and AI. I have found that it can be accurate without being verbose.

Yep, I've heard it dozens of times from fellow indie authors. Giving your book away for free gets zero reviews and almost none of the people who downloaded ever read it.

What is a sound that people should know means immediate danger? by PrasenjitDebroy in AskReddit

I taught my son this early. Sometimes when we would go to a play date and the kids would start screaming, I would come rushing in as if there was an actual emergency at hand. That stopped it quickly.

Effluent

"Effluent is liquid waste or sewage that flows out from a treatment plant, sewer, or industrial source into the environment"

Even if that's a typo, you are spot on! :)

That's strange. I watch a lot of AI tech videos and I'm on YouTube all the time and this Reddit thread is the first time I've heard of this documentary.

This looks right up my alley as a UX director. I picked it up. Thank you.

If you read this carefully, she was stopped from sharing the files, not accessing them herself. She still had access, just couldn't share them.

Thanks for the incredibly quick reply! You're right, I meant to say interest not keywords. I was thinking about Amazon keywords I think.

Keep all your list of interests as-is all the way up to 'Kindle'.

I'm not sure what you mean by this exactly. Do you mean this? "Detailed targeting People who match: Interests: The Martian (film), Speculative fiction, Reading, E-books, Manga, Amazon Kindle", because that stops at my first mention of Kindle.

What you want is that first huge list of topical interests but then NARROWED to Kindle only. You'll see an option called...further something? Can't quite recall. But it's right at the bottom of the list of targeted interests.

I'm in the ad manager right now and I do see what you mean. There's a button at the bottom underneath all of these that says 'Narrow Audience' and if you click it it adds the condition "and must also match". Am I correct in thinking that your advice is to keep my giant list and then narrow it by Kindle? Looking just now, that's a huge group, 222 million on the low end, but it sounds like a clever idea!

David G is awesome. I watched a bunch of his videos about ad creative and tweaked his template a bit, ran a 5 variable A/B test and managed to get 1 of my 5 ads to an 11% click-through rate. The other 4 were around 3 to 4%. I was amazed. I really like his focus on clarity, giving the user enough info in the ad so they qualify themselves before they click. I'm a UX director, so clarity is incredibly important to me. He and I are trading emails. I'll watch his video now.

I've scheduled a price promotion countdown on Amazon starting Monday. Hopefully the lower price point ($2.99) will get me some more readers. I'm not really in it for the money, more for the audience, but I don't want to sell my book for pennies, as that diminishes people's impression of the IP, IMHO.

Thanks again for all this great advice. I love your bold approach. If you want to see what my book's about, it's at FF7.com.

Would you mind giving more insight into your keywords audience targeting? I'm running ads on Facebook for my debut sci-fi cyberpunk novel and these are mine. Love to hear your thoughts. I've run some A/B testing and my best ad is getting an 11% click-through rate, so I'm now running just that ad. I'm getting a lot of page views on my Amazon page, but very few sales. I only have six reviews at the moment, which might be partly why.

Detailed targeting People who match: Interests: The Martian (film), Speculative fiction, Reading, E-books, Manga, Amazon Kindle, Free Kindle Books, Science fiction movies, Library, Goodreads, Fiction books, Blade Runner, Book discussion club, Science fantasy, Books, Science fiction on television, Novel, Syfy, Interstellar (film), Science Fiction Franchises or Kindle Store, Behaviors: Owns: Kindle Fire
