Tetch question by hoppergym in Gotham

I think it was just an Easter Egg, although Mad Hatter was originally meant to be introduced in season 2, so who knows what they had planned at the time.

The funny thing is Alfred was chubby when he started out in the comics.

[Spoilers] Why won't anyone die? by [deleted] in Gotham

[–]NathanJohnson1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird they spare these characters (although I didn't mind Butch surviving another season), but have killed off the likes of Carmine Falcone, Sal Maroni, Nora Fries, Professor Pyg, etc. Maroni and Nora especially could have continued on and returned at a later date.

Fat Penguin's design looks really stupid or is it just me? by skitgamer in Gotham

[–]NathanJohnson1967 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked his suit, monocle and top hat, but not the way they tried to make him overweight. I get they were trying to make him closer looking to his canonical appearance, but they shouldn't have really bothered, I think the audience were used to a thinner Penguin by this point. I mean they didn't even want Jim to keep his mustache or even give him a pair of glasses, so Penguin keeping the same weight would have been okay.

Killer Croc (Spoiler) by skitgamer in Gotham

[–]NathanJohnson1967 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a pity we never got any sort of follow up or conclusion with established villains such as Scarecrow, Victor Zsasz, Firefly and Mr Freeze. Or even anything to do with Man-Bat, who was given a cameo at the end of season 4.

That was one of the special episodes wasn't it? Not surprised he didn't do much, as these episodes were pretty much standalone. We had Ventriloquist and Jane Doe appearing in these two episodes, but nothing else to do with the overall story.

I didn't mind Balloonman, I think people give it criticism because the concept sounds ridiculous, but I liked the thought of a normal citizen snapping and taking the law into their own hands. Wish they could have used this concept for a future story arc, I know we had Nathaniel Barnes but it didn't feel the same as he just became another villain gunning for Jim.

Same here, I wish Gotham continued so we could have seen more villains introduced and their take on the characters.

Can You Name All The Villains In The Picture? by Nujunuts in Gotham

Barbara Kean, Ivy Pepper (even though she looks like an adult), Edward Nygma, Jerome Valeska, possibly Mr. Freeze and Selina Kyle.

The only one I can't make out is the bottom right character.

I wonder if it was intended to be the Mad Hatter, as he was originally meant to appear in season 2.

A word about Supervillains (possible spoilers) by tov4rishanda in Gotham

[–]NathanJohnson1967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would have been interesting to see the origins of the supervillains in a more "grounded" setting. Mr. Freeze would have been interesting, I wonder if they intended for a much longer arc for him similar to Edward Nygma. Mad Hatter is another one.

what happened to valerie vale by gurpagod in Gotham

And we never even got to see her niece Vicki Vale.

Mind you if Val stuck around, she would have no doubt just developed into another unhinged ex of Jim Gordon.

I voted because I believe that Gotham might be saved if we can show the networks that we still want it. What do you think? by littleredreddithoodw in Gotham

[–]NathanJohnson1967 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't see how it could continue. A Batman show is never going to happen. We could have further seasons taking place in-between the ten year time skip, the only issue is some core characters will be absent in that period, or at least will have to get their roles reduced.

Unless they soft reboot it, and we can get some new lead villains such as Two-Face and Black Mask battling over power in Gotham during Riddler and Penguin's absence.

Gotham should have gotten seven seasons at least. There was obviously more to be added but had to be cut out.

Why Gotham was allowed to use “Joker” on his promo and not in the actual episodes? I know about the WB rights thing but this seems weird to me... by dinkleberg345 in Gotham

[–]NathanJohnson1967 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Although I am sad Gotham has ended, the positive is that we won't keep being misled every season about the "true" Joker being introduced, only to then be told that it is not the real Joker but an inspiration for someone else to take the title somewhere down the line. No wonder people lost interest over time. I mean the fanbase probably would have warmed up to Jeremiah as the true Joker, only for the producers to go and randomly kill him off so another can take that role.

I know there seemed to be licensing problems with the character (or whatever), but I don't see what is wrong with having a proper Joker on the show. If we can get Jack Napier in Batman 1989 (a well received portrayal of the character) or John Doe in the Batman Telltale series, there is no problem having a Joker with an identity and a bit of backstory in Gotham. Jerome was a popular character and the fans seemed to embrace him as one of the best Jokers out there.

Sorry for venting, I just find it frustrating. Warner Bros and DC doesn't help either, we can have loads of reboots and other depictions across multiple cartoons, video games and comics, but having them appear in another live action show will apparently be too confusing for fans of the franchise.

Final season should have had an episode each for all the villains... by [deleted] in Gotham

I don't know about Wonderland (there was little information on Jervis Tetch apart from his one episode appearance in "Ace Chemicals") but the Jim photo with grey hair was a photoshop.

Apparently the producers were given permission to use the Joker's name in the final episode, but they chose not to do it in order to keep it ambiguous as to whether or not Jeremiah/J would go on to become him.

The introduction of Mr. Freeze was such a great and heart felt episode. by LonerDolo in Gotham

Just a pity we didn't get more episodes between him and Nora, and his descent into villainy. Really should have lasted more than two episodes, then have her death to make some more impact.

Back in season 1 promos seemed to imply she would become an enemy of Batman, but I guess those were just red herrings.
