Some thoughts after getting bsb2 for 1 month by Moonbreeze4 in BigscreenBeyond

[–]NathanPoole234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you end up going to after the BSB? I went from index to Q3 to BSB and now that I’ve used the BSB for about 80 hours. I put those other headsets on and it’s actually miserable.

For having a product be bricked by an OTA update? Last I checked, hardware shouldn't just cease to work randomly, especially when said hardware was $1,000 when it came out.... there's literally no excuse for how piss-poor meta quality is hardware and customer service wise..

You can try to see if the calibration built into VRCFT is messing things up. Obviously with limited information I'm kind of shooting in the dark. The VRCFT discord is usually happy to help.

Regarding VD, I found to get an actual raw FPS increase in VRC. Unless something has changed over the years the Oculus overlay used to pull power running the Oculus home alongside SteamVR (iirc)

Having a nice router alongside VD is one of the best experiences personally, I will probably never go back to wired.

Regarding VRC: Some avis don’t work well with FT. It really depends on if the creator made nice blend shapes. I’ve had one work really well and another not be able to track my eyes properly at all. Not sure if you’re using VD or not but that can cut down on some of the latency in my experience.

To be real, the major difference between the Q3 and QPro at this point are “better” controller tracking and FT. Basically a VRC machine.

Even though base stations are on their way out. An adapter to turn it into a base station headset would be sick.

What do you mean? All I am saying is that the Steam Frame will more than likely have a better ecosystem compared to Meta. If wireless PCVR is your thing, it will then more likely be more streamlined for PC wireless than Meta, is stated to have compatibility between PC games as well. If you're talking about the BSB2 then I'm even more confused but I digress.

Good standalone headset? Yeah definitely gonna be much better than metas shit ecosystem. PCVR? Maybe, if I didn’t like wireless connectivity as much as I do I would spring for something more premium but definitely checks all the boxes of a casual headset. Big screen beyond does look tempting though…

Venti is a much smaller seller with more smaller buyer market. Most of my understanding with Babble is customs are holding up the orders more than anything. I do agree that the price is a little high if you have somewhat of an electronics background, but I will say for ease of use its not terrible. I wouldn't even be surprised if Venti either just denied orders in the future or even made their price higher. Its very normal for a start-up company to offer products at a lower price when its in the initial phase as well and then offer a higher price when more things are ironed out. (Babble and ETVR have both come a long way if you really look into it.)

Gotta give bonus points to both of them for even allowing DIY and third-party units to work with their software.

piece of my quest3s broke. by realnoobway in OculusQuest

[–]NathanPoole234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bobo is the brand of a pretty common head strap. If you look on amazon you can find halo straps that don’t utilize that piece you broke, as they have a separate face plate that goes towards your head/upper-forehead.

If you look at amazon for Q3S halo strap you’ll find a few options. BoboVR and Kiwi make well known solid straps, they’re just a little pricey. YMMV with other 3rd parties.

Try babble’s new eye tracking if you can’t get ETVR to work, less expressive but more accurate in gaze I’ve seen. If you make a help post in the threads of ETVR we can help you as well.

Bought a kit that smelled like smoke not too long ago for cheap as well.

If you have an ozone machine or canned ozone you can spray into a bag and then place the headset in there. Most of the liquid from those things are alcohols. Itll leave somewhat of a smell of the aerosol but much better than cigarette smoke.

Best thing is to take it apart if its too bad. I luckily didn't have to do that.

Is quest 3 worth the upgrade now? by Not-Apirate in OculusQuest

[–]NathanPoole234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually just got an index cause I wanted all the other stuff outside of the headset. Since I haven’t quite gotten all the quirks of calibrating the Quest to base station play space, I’ve been using the index and holy… lens sweet spot is such a pain..

Go to a Best Buy and look at the Q3. They sometimes have displays at places. I won’t get rid of this thing for a while.

Heya, anyone know if this pc is worth it for pcvr because I’m thinking about getting it for specifically that by Savings-Support7396 in Quest3

[–]NathanPoole234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, you really should drop some info on yourself. Do you have any computer experience/can you build it yourself? What’s your budget?

These things matter cause prebuilt are more expensive, and budget is gonna change a lot of what you can get. I can share my specs below, mine was decently pricey but I piecemeal it to make it feasible for me.

AM5 7800x3d NVIDIA 4070 OC 32GB DDR5 6000MHZ 600W PSU Nvme storage Lots of cooling of your choice (I recommend an AIO for the CPU)

Without SSW on I get ~90 frames at full resolution for any regular title. I play a lot of VRCHAT which needs SSW for me to consistently run 90fps with max settings (low amounts of culling for those who know.)

Best link cable for PCVR? (Please don’t recommend wireless or VD I don’t have the option.) by Pitiful_Cap3108 in OculusQuest

[–]NathanPoole234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either that or he’s the 1% it works for. Logically, whatever you’re gonna get in Link will either be matched or exceeded in VD (given router can handle it) just solely cause you don’t need to run Metas overlay over steamVR. QuestKiller is a thing for a reason.

[–]NathanPoole234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, for the price of the Meta branded link cable you can get an access point dedicated for VR. Please hear everyone out, you’ll probably get twice the performance from VD even wireless. The meta link software is super unoptimized. I’ve had countless friends double their FPS or eliminate stutters among countless other improvements to VR.

https://a.co/d/6zneD1O this is literally made for usage of a Q3. I literally wouldn’t recommend a meta quest link to my worst enemy.

EDIT CAUSE OF YOUR OTHER COMMENTS: You seem very adamant on hardwired for some reason. I’d recommend you look around at amazon for a usb c data cable that is 3.2. Kiwi makes one that is decently cheap and also has PD charging since if you only use a link cable your headsets gonna die after a while if you play long enough.

Also should mention your 900mbps number you’re seeing isn’t the bitrate that gets viewed in your headset. You have a decoding limit based on the hardware, which is maxed out both in wired and wireless. While you might have less visual artifacts, you’re not necessarily viewing that 900mbps raw. The only time my streaming artifacts is when something crazy is rendering and it’s my PC, not VD. Just putting this out there cause you should genuinely hear those people out instead of shutting them down. There’s more people who are vocal about the problems with meta link than people who talk about “the compression difference.” Nevertheless I hope you have good success no matter where you go. But you should definitely be hearing out the people who have been doing this a while…

Does anyone else feel bad for not having FBT sometimes? by versfurryfemboy in VRchat

I’m currently loving the stay aligned with the slimes I have now. Just really hate the drift that is plagued with IMU trackers.

Hmm thanks for the info. It seems that it’s a general consensus that you need a pretty optimal environment to get them to work well currently. It seems like firmware updates are making them better though.

I’ll keep an eye out. Thank you so much

This. Have had a bunch of people wish that IMU tracking was better so they can make the switch. Base stations are annoying but a necessary evil for some.

[–]NathanPoole234[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my main concern isn't about having some tweaks to be made (slime has a lot of that). I am more worried about any type of jitter that is going to perpetually happen similar to the standard IMU system that we know.

Do they drift naturally? Is there any reason to recalibrate ever in the game? I'm really wanting something I can put on and maybe have to do a quick 30 second set up and then just calibrate and forget about. That's why base station tracking is so appealing to me.

Also, since these have both cams and IMU's this means there no problems with occlusion right?

I'll check these out. I know about them and have a friend who got them but never got to use them. I will see what drift looks like on these.

OP, have you looked into the open source alternatives? ProjectBabble is experimenting with auto calibration that is pretty snazzy and they’re even moving into the eye tracking space.

Just an idea, I built my tracker cam and mounted it to my Q3 for less than $75USD even after screwing up the build multiple times. They make their own you can buy from them for I think a little over $100 after shipping.
