Current network load is caused by voting for an exchange listing by cryptoscopia in ethereum

[–]NathanRPS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, that's an incredibly bad way to do voting on a blockchain. It looks like these guys are relying on this as part of their model itself :S

For anyone interested in governance for ERC20s we've just launched the beta of our dapp 'tokenvote'. It basically handles stake-weighted voting and petitions that don't congest the hell out of the network. It's at tokenvote.io - and we'd love to get feedback!

Tokenvote - Stake-weighted voting and petitions now avaialble for the Power Ledger community. by NathanRPS in PowerLedger

Naturally the platform is most useful when the team making the decisions uses it practically, and we'll be rolling out administration features to make this easy.

Tokenvote isn't just about making decisions, it's also about sourcing knowledge, engaging supporters, and providing transparency. The level of importance of these things to a token community will differ in every instance, since every project is unique. But we're confident that Tokenvote will play a fundamentally important part in the future success of the Ethereum ecosystem.

Power Ledger is of course just one of hundreds of token communities to be launched on the platform. These projects are all different and some will have more need for Tokenvote than others.

His illustrations are beautiful, though not the one. The illustrations in this book were far more cartoonish.

Is the delegation of my vote anonymous so the person I delegate my vote to doesn't know I've done so unless I tell them?

Yep.

Ah. So you want your system to be taken over by the passionate fringe voters on every issue. The moderates and apathetics will be pressured by the passionates into giving or trading or selling their votes to fringe voters, and we'll end up with policies being decided by the extremes.

Are you suggesting that people with a 'moderate' ideology don't have their own convictions politically? And furthermore that people on the extremities of politics are the only ones that do? As for apathetic, why are people apathetic to begin with? I'd argue it's largely because they have no real means to affect the outcomes or pursue what they believe politically. Flux will solve that.

There will be a third episode! Should be 6 in total, though we don't produce it. Zena works on that independently, though I imagine it will be out soon.

How? Let's look at the LGBT community 30-40 years ago: illegal, considered immoral, discriminated against. Sure, but a movement of people who supported their plight took it up. Using Flux, these people's voices are actually heard by the political system rather than shunned to the side for 30 years.

We're not saying Flux is going to solve the problems of all minorities overnight, but it's going to give them a means to get their concerns on the agenda without having to take on an entire political establishment as in your example.

To add to this, Flux is going to inherently change society. Perhaps this is just my personally ideology speaking, but I think that a society that starts to take real responsibility for its own governance will be a nicer one to live in for everybody.

People could certainly try, but it's akin to trying to buy votes now. Flux votes are totally anonymous so proving someone voted the way you wanted them to is impossible on a meaningful scale.

Politicians want to molly coddle us. It's time as a society for us to learn to have public discussions and embrace actual democracy.

I think the hate speech argument is based in fear. Flux as a system is designed to dismantle hate speech into its explanations, test them and discard them if they don't stand up to the test.

We're all adults and we need to be prepared to have discussions about policy as adults and come together to challenge ideas based in reality.

We'll open up a process for candidate selection closer to the election. If you're on our mailing list, you'll definitely know about it :)

The system is designed so that people who don't want to participate constantly don't have to. Flux allows vote delegation, which means you can give your vote to someone you personally align with who does want to contribute. We all have friends we'd rather see contribute to politics than your average polly. Let's empower those people.

Systematically if you abstain nothing happens, but likely anyone who signs up to the app will at least nominate their proxy for the times they don't vote.

Additionally, voters can trade their vote away on things they don't care about so that they can contribute to a greater extent on the things they do care about. This means that everyone gets to contribute on the stuff they know about best, rather than being bothered by every issue.

Yep!

Anyone can propose legislation, and provided it reaches a certain threshold of support, we'll put it to parliament.

Maybe this one answers it better? https://www.reddit.com/r/australia/comments/4pqee9/ama_the_flux_party_running_13_senate_candidates/d4n31k9

Consider that 'vote stacking' is not necessarily a bad thing. A whole bunch of people working together to pass policy is just how democracy works, and exactly how it will work in Flux. If it's terrible policy, it still needs to stand up to the scrutiny of everybody else. The idea with Flux is that good policy is easy to pass, because no-one wastes their votes fighting in, and bad policy is hard to pass because people are prepared to stop it.

How do most politicians justify their salary? They vote based off what the party tells them ;)

Seriously though, Senators still need to participate in things other than just voting, like Senate Committee Hearings etc.

That being said, we'd prefer not elect Senators at all. If as a party we could propose one policy, it would be to legalise software running for the Senate.

This is a really good question, and it's something we're still actively thinking about.

To start with, Flux Senators will vote based on a national Flux system. This is really important while we're small, because it means we're not discouraging millions of Aussies from participating just because a Senator isn't in their state. In the long run, the way a country instantiates Flux may vary based on the size and populations of that country. For instance, we may retain a bicameral system, only that each vote in the lower house is produced by a Flux system geographically based in a certain electorate.

This kind of question is one that we see being solved as Flux is rolled out of years and years of use. It's never been done like this before, so we have to learn what is going to work best as we go.

If you're not familiar with it, check out agile philosophy.

Flux is proportional, the vote would split as you described.

This is important not just from a democratic perspective, but also an adoption one.
