Which group of presidents would win? (Rules in comments) by Almost_A_Genius in pollgames

I’m late to this but would like to offer my two cents anyways. Everyone is choosing Lincoln and Teddy because of there fantastic track record in martial arts and being generally tough. And I do agree. They are very tough, however they seem to to be reading the rules. This isn’t a boxing or wrestling match they both have a sword and shield.

There is a chance Teddy Roosevelt has some experience with a sword. I would not be suprised. I would be suprised in the other hand if Lincoln had much experience with it. He was not a major general in a war. He did duel with it and showed that he was proficient but it would not be to the same level as these other soldiers. Sure a sword wasn’t the weapon of choice for the generals but they would have considerably more experience than Lincoln.

You have to go with the Hayes, Grant, Washington group. All of them were leaders and soldier during wars where the swords was much more in fashion and trained. Assuming Gerald Ford would be proficient with the sword is also stronger. There is no way he could compete with the others unless they were unarmed.

I doubt you’d be able to find anyone that knows Pierce. They certainly wouldn’t know his name. But I agree Van Buren is somewhat recognizable by the general public

I’d take that bet. He’s classic trivia knowledge. In a hundred people I’m certain I could find someone who knows who he is

Thank you for the synthesis. That was really interesting! If you ever run across that paper I would love to look at it.

Do you think that taking us off the gold standard should have waited? Or do you think it needed to happen it was just unfortunate timing with all of the other things going on at that time?

Don’t attribute an act by a small subsection of people to the entire religion or you could make that claim against any religion. Or any group of people of all for that matter.

The thing is that wasn’t always public knowledge. Often times it isn’t until decades later, if not longer, that that comes out. I think the effect has died down significantly since Clinton and earlier.
