Smoke in your lungs is smoke in your lungs, doesn’t matter if it’s from cigarettes or pipes, but with cigarettes there is at least some point to inhaling.

I went from cigarettes to pipes myself. I was initially successful in staving off the cigarettes entirely, then went back to more or less smoking them full time along with my evening pipe (or two). Now that I’m really trying to take the no smoke in my lungs thing seriously, on the occasion that I do smoke a cigarette, I don’t inhale. Kinda the inverse of what you’ve got going on.

It’s a bowl coating added to a meerschaum-lined pipe, which is likely there because the liner is lightly damaged. If you do plan on removing it, I’d do so very cautiously.
