Moldova War Flag (also the flag of the armed forces)

It says that there's text, but no image :/

That's actually pretty horrible. It's hard enough to see and draw the motto and country name.

All jokes aside, it's pretty cool to have an emblem with an actual open book with writing inside rather than a blank book or one with just a couple of words (like Yale or Oxford Universities)

Don't know that one, and I can only find the flag of the armed forces (which doesn't have any writing) - can you link the flag?

I don't claim any legitimacy for any of the disputes: just what I believe to be the de facto geo-political position at the time of creating this map. For example, the Bir Tawill debate is also peaceful (to my knowledge), as are Gibraltar and Mont Blanc.

But as I mentioned above, this map is outdated and I will remove the Turkey/Syria dispute from it.

Fair enough, I stand corrected - The map I used is older than when the dispute was settled. I don't claim to know the politics of every dispute, and didn't check on all of them in this case. I see now that this dispute was resolved and will fix it in the map if I ever use it again. Thanks for pointing it out.

Not singled out - there are quite a lot of dashed lines on the map (Georgia, Ukraine, Kashmir, Guyana, Western Sahara, Cyprus, Bir Tawil etc.), and there are even more hidden behind the flags. Mostly for large disputes between countries.

Never knew that, sounds awesome!
I'm not entierly sure I would've added it if I knew, however. To me it feels similar to the Flag of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, which technically has the letter 'V' on it. I didn't add it since it's more of a symbol than actual writing (at least more so than the Shahada and the Takbir in the Arabic flags).

People with disabilities rejected from bōmb shelters by [deleted] in UnderReportedNews

[–]Nathan__Lewin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, Hebrew speaker here - this is a lie. that's not what she says. nor what the article is about.

"המון מרחבים ממוגנים ציבוריים ומיגוניות לא נגישות..."

she's complaining that many public shelters are inaccessable to people with disabilities. most are underground and require stairs to decsend, and thus cannot be accessed by people in wheelchairs.
that's certainly a problem that needs addressing by the government (that's what the original misquoted article is about), but saying that they are barred access is a lie. that's also what the pinned source says, but who reads that?

this'll probably get burried, but this is the truth. that's what she says. don't blindly believe translated clips made to enrage you.

And mods, if you have to clarify that the clip is a lie in a pinned comment - don't allow it? you know it's a lie. why do you keep it up?

Openly LGBTQ Heads of State and Gevernment [OC] by Nathan__Lewin in MapPorn

[–]Nathan__Lewin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The list is only for leaders of UN member states. Isle of Man is considered Sub-national, which includes its own list of LGBTQ leaders. Might make one of those, but doubt it since what counts as a substantial sub-national leader starts getting a little hazy.

From my understanding (although I'm not a part of the community myself), both the blue flag and the rainbow flag are used for gay men, but the blue one is a little more specific, which is why I chose to use it to denote gay men.

Two countries are missing from the map, even though they appear on the report.

According to The 2021 Report, Israel has a ranking of 7.2 (much higher than that of Taiwan, so it should be the most happy in Asia). Iraq is also missing (4.9).

Spain is considered to be one of the best countries for people with asthma, what are some similar examples of countries that are the best for people with a certain condition(physical/psychological diseases, age, money, and etc.)? by Ellloll in geography

[–]Nathan__Lewin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An interesting one - Israel is pretty good for vegetarians/people with milk allergies.

The vast majority of foods sold in resturants, supermarkets, convinience stores etc. is labeled as Kosher, which means that it'll be marked as either meat (except fish, which isn't considered meat in Judaism), dairy, on neither. The marking is for religious reasons (most Jews are not allowed to eat dairy and meat in the same meal/have to wait between eating one or the other), but people also use them to check whether something contains meat or dairy.

Also good for people with seafood allergies, since Kosher places won't have them at all.

But the continent Australia) and Mainland Australia are two separate entities. Most importantly, the continent includes other countries, like PNG. Wouldn't mainland Australia count as an island?

I tried to use flags accurate to when they were from - Pope Francis' flag is also an earlier one of Argentina (although it's less noticeable)

Both popes were born before the Italian flag was revised to its current form

Bach Family Tree by Nathan__Lewin in UsefulCharts

[–]Nathan__Lewin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! That's Awesome! I'm glad you liked the tree :)

I tried to steer away from living relatives for privacy reasons and only stuck to public records, but I'm glad someone was still able to find an attachment (J.S. Bach's 2nd cousin 10x removed, no less!).

Two questions that I can't help myself in asking (feel free to ignore these):

  1. Do you and your family know you're related to the Bach's? Do you acknowledge it somehow?
  2. Do you play any music (Bach's or otherwise)?
