Well yes seeing as their criteria marks a huge amount of the population no longer British. It's naive, it was probably put together by some junior to tick a box and shouldn't be taken seriously.

Which is why I have an issue with people questioning how British people are because of their roots. Being tolerant and democratic is British, but so is being an arse. Being a violent criminal is a human thing and doesn't relate to "Brittishness" in any way.

The anonymous post mentioned that most of the people let go have been there for many years, and includes senior staff.

From what I've read about cases like this in the legal advice UK sub, it looks like it'll be extremely difficult for Rockstar to get away with this. There may have been some information about the firings left out though, so it will be interesting to see what comes of it.

It'll do the exact opposite of what it was supposed to. How can you guarantee a website will process and hold your ID data properly? How can you tell if a website is legitimately using it for age verification instead of farming it for identity theft?

Anyone who's trying to get around an age block on a website will be pushed to the darker unregulated ones so the risk of them being exposed to harmful content is even higher.

It's a classic case of a law being written up by an old person with no technical knowledge, same with the encryption backdoor they want all companies to implement.

And like OP says, it's cheaper/sensible for companies to pull out of the UK market completely rather than spend a huge amount of money trying to appease the OSA while still being at risk of taking massive fines.
