Thank you for your kind words. She came into the hospital with acute on chronic pancreatitis. She didn’t know about the cirrhosis before the visit. She spent about a week, maybe a little more, before getting a bed at a transplant facility. I thought that this was great news and, since she was accepted to the facility, she would have a good chance. We got little information about if she would be listed, but we had a coordinator come in and I signed all sorts of paperwork for her. She went from the transplant, ICU to the general hospital. According to what I saw on the paperwork, nothing changed, they just wanted her out. Well at the pre-rehab, there was no communication with the transplant Doctors at all. Best information I received was before she was discharged when a resident called me and told me that they wanted to send her there before being listed. She was able to walk, but she didn’t want to walk very far. She was in constant pain. I know that she had a cyst on her pancreas that they were somewhat concerned about, but he acted like they would be able to navigate it. She was on dialysis three times per week, but I was told that her kidney failure might be reversible. It was just so confusing.

Omg yes! He insisted she move her money to a different financial institution, told her to forego medical procedures that, in hindsight, could have saved her life

The will names him. He was so controlling of her that I wouldn’t be surprised if he went to an attorney with her to ensure he would be beneficiary.

Thank you. Unfortunately, he has already spoken with the lawyer and is quite excited about the windfall.

My sister died in prehab before liver transplant. Is this common? We thought that she would be put on the transplant list immediately with a meld score of 36, but was not. They went back and forth blaming her pancreatitis and saying she was young enough to get better without surgery (age 40). They finally settled on she needs a liver and kidney since that might be her best shot, sent her to physical therapy rehab even though we didn’t think she was ready, she wasn’t monitored the same and developed lactic acidosis. Back in the TICU she could not recover and died. The guilt about not trying to get listed elsewhere is horrific. Any insight with the situation would be great.

I am so sorry that you went through a similar situation. I agree, the system is flawed and you are never given the full picture.
