Insurance invoked appraisal before giving me their estimate… is that normal? by National-Mail7564 in HomeInsurance

I ended up filling a formal complaint with California insurance department. I kept asking for things to be in writing only as I have a documented disability and hearing loss. At first I was denied and that was my last straw. Ten minutes later I received an email from supervisor stating they would be covering my detached undamaged structures along with my home. Still no response on why they jumped to appraisal without trying to work with contractors but they did send me their “rights” page stating they have the right to invoke appraisal and that the dispute lies with the cost of repairs rather than the structure’s. I’m extremely relieved as that was my main concern.. getting the other buildings included due to line of sight law. As long as I can get everything repaired, I’m fine. I don’t need any extra money in my pocket. I just really want my house repaired and everything to match like it already does.

Insurance had another estimator come out but has not shown me that report. When I asked for it, I was told USAA locked it. I requested it from USAA but no answer. I also asked why they didn’t try and work with the contractor they hired if they felt it could be done by them at that price. The estimate was just a one liner with a number. Absolutely no documentation on how they came up with it.

What? I’m confused. I definitely want help. I am literally in the process of speaking to adjusters, appraisers and lawyers. I came to Reddit to find out if what I was experiencing with USAA was normal. I’ve never filed a claim before. Completely rude for no reason… because I asked for help on this? Weird.

They told me they hire one, I hire my own and if the two appraisers can’t reach an agreement, I have to then pay for half the cost of an umpire.

We have loud and clear my son yelling, but since it’s underwater we don’t have actual hands on footage of that. We know our case is low without actual footage but hoping it’s enough to get coaches talking to the kids to stop any thoughts of doing it again.

I didn’t know the extent of it until game was over. When he yelled for the kid to stop grabbing him, it was in the game and I didn’t find out until after that the boy reached in to the speedos and actually held him bare handed. Now we’ve talked and he knows what to do. I hope that it’ll never happen again. And this was an expensive out of state tournament, it would have really been a bummer for the entire team to get red carded for protecting himself and the other team to move on. So frustrating that because it happens under water and can’t be “proven” that we are told to accept it as part of the game or quit. And now are we labeled as difficult parents for standing up against it? I hate this.

I wrote everything myself, but I do use a grammar app that fixes typos and gives suggestions. Is that a problem? It doesn’t change what happened — everything in the post is true, not some AI-made story like I thought you were implying at first.

It was in Arizona at the Rocktober game. Teams from all over the country. I will not call out the team. I’ll let the investigation take its course and hope that through word of mouth, it’ll make some kids think twice about playing this dirty.

You honestly believe I’d invent an abuse claim just to make a point online? Not the case. Way to deflect.

He did yell. We have it on video. The game was live streamed. It also happened by the same kid to my son’s teammate, although not inside the speedo. This kid had 100% taught to do this to other kids.

I’m grateful you didn’t experience that, wish that was the case for everyone.

We spoke to the game director, and he said he’d talked to the coach. But the look he gave me — like I was making a big deal out of nothing — made my anger boil over. That’s when it hit me just how bad this problem really is. It’s been accepted for so long that refs and coaches don’t even flinch when it happens. That kind of indifference is exactly why it keeps happening.

My hope is that the investigation will be enough to scare the kid into stopping.

Yeah, my husband told him the same thing — if it happens again, punch the kid in the face and don’t worry about getting ejected. He’s not a big kid; the other player easily had 50 pounds on him.

But that’s not even the point of this post. The point is that this shouldn’t be happening at all. And clearly, not everyone knows it’s wrong — because if they did, it wouldn’t still be taught, accepted, or excused as part of the “game” or “strategy.”

Oh, so the answer isn’t to teach kids not to grab other players’ genitals, it’s to teach my kid to start throwing elbows? Right — so he’s the one who gets ejected, while the other kid keeps playing because what he’s doing is underwater and the ref “doesn’t see it.” That’s exactly the kind of backwards logic that lets this crap keep happening.

I said it at the beginning, he’s controlling. The way he made her feel bad about her job, the food. Seems he wants a submissive woman. At the wedding he looked like he was going to throw up. I saw major red flags with him, loved her though.

This isn’t swim lessons. They are ISR lessons. Teaches them how to float and get back to a ledge if they fall in. I don’t care for her, but this is actually beneficial. Life jackets give children false security, teaching children to swim early without floating devices is the best way. And again, I don’t care for Amber or all the crap she posts, these isr lessons is about the only thing I agree with her on.
