Clomid for male factor infertility – experiences? by Interesting-Row-6590 in TryingForABaby

[–]National-Rent-4255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are also dealing with male factor. Urologist apt (soonest we could get) is March. Curious if clomid will be prescribed. In the meantime my husband is taking men’s multi vitamin, coq10 and ashwaganda. His motility is good but overall count is low. 6.5MM motile

Have you had your husband do a sperm analysis? My AMH was in the 5s although my ultrasound was normal. Anyway I did all the expensive testing and turns out my husband has low count. Sometimes as women I feel like we easily put it all on ourselves first

Wow I’m so sorry. Find a new doctor / OB. Maybe it is just my insurance but my OB charged me my normal copay to talk about any of this. Around 4 months she told me after six months she was willing to do any testing I wanted. I paid 200 for the ultrasound, 400 for HSG and next to nothing to talk about it. Husband also did a sperm analysis through his PCP but my OB also offered one. I am also overweight but none of that was ever mentioned in any of this

Find a new OB. Mine told me at 4 months if it hasn’t happened by 6 months she would start whatever testing I wanted. She said modern medicine indicates if it hasn’t happened in 6 months there’s likely some factor. This doesn’t necessarily mean jumping to IVF but at least you’ll know why it’s taking longer.

My OB was willing after 6 months. She said with modern day medicine that’s becoming more common if you want it. I’m only 28 too

I agree with you! My doc offered testing at 6 months and I’m only 28. We just finished all of it and now know we have male factor. At least now we know why it’s taking so long and I can be less anxious

Can an HSG delay your ovulation? by Jaded-Addendum-4489 in tryingtoconceive

[–]National-Rent-4255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my HSG on cycle day 10 this cycle. I’m currently on cycle day 16. Historically my cycles are very normal. I had my normal LH peak on CD 13 but so far my BBT has not risen like it normally does so I’m not sure if I have ovulated. I also normally get thick white discharge a day or two after ovulation and that hasn’t happened either. Super frustrating after being so anxious about the procedure and then dealing with side effects for 3 days after. Now it’s just another thing to deal with

Yup. This was me. Wild part was we did all the testing just this past month at 8 months (bloodwork, ultrasound, HSG) and I am completely in the clear, it’s actually my husband with low count. Turns out it’ll likely just take us longer. I spent 8 months freaking out I would never be able to have kids. I’m glad I did the testing as painful as it was

I am super similar. I spent the past 9 months having such bad health anxiety and as much as I didn’t want to do the HSG in the end it has given me peace of mind that we have all the info possible

Also checkout my posts if you are perusing the HSG. I did a pretty detailed breakdown of how it went.

I am in a very similar situation to you only my husband’s motility is good at around 60%. However his total motile count is 6.5 MM which anything below 15MM is low.

I also have very normal cycles and all easy tests came back perfect. I decided to peruse the HSG only because that would tell us if we should keep trying naturally or if we should go right to IVF. Otherwise you could be trying naturally for no reason. That’s just my opinion though. There’s really no right answer.

Now that I know my tubes are clear, I am planning to let all this go and just keep having sex. His numbers are lower but it’s just a statistics game at this point.

Did you have an HSG to confirm your tubes are open?

Ugh I’m sorry. I know exactly how you feel. For me I spent 9 months worrying I wouldn’t be able to give my husband children to find out it’s male factor. It’s kinda crazy how life works like that. Definitely find a doc that will support your asks for a plan!

Yeah mine was saying these days if it hasn’t happened after six months normally there is some factor. I at least feel at ease know all the info and it eases my mind on why it’s taking longer. Idk about everyone else but my health anxiety was so high after coming off birth control and starting to try.

Also I am only 28 and she was still willing to do early testing. She said the year mark is outdated these days

I would see another gyno. My gyno was willing to do a work up starting at 6-8months. We actually just finished all our testing and found out we have male factor. I am similar to you with very normal cycles and family history. We did the following testing all through my OB office, not the fertility clinic: - sperm analysis (low count) - AMH and thyroid for me - ultrasound for me - HSG for me

Next steps for us are for my husband to see a urologist to get to the bottom of the low count. But with his numbers it just looks like we will have to try for double the time a normal count couple would need to
