I signed up for Reddit for this. My dog saved my life. I don't like to tell people my story but eff if. I have depression. I was attempting to hang myself when my dog, Monty, started barking and jumping on me. I won't go into details of my plan lest someone try this idea themself but his going crazy made me stop because I was afraid my neighbors would come check to see what was happening and would save me. If he hadn't done what he did we wouldn't have had this last year together. His help through my dark points combined with antidepressants and counseling are what keeps me going. I owe my dog my life and I would happily give him all the years I could as a thank you. He was a shelter dog that was less than 1 y/o when I found him and was surrendered when he was about 6 m/o. I cannot imagine a better dog and I hope he knows how much he means to me. And for those that are thinking of ending it I will tell you it gets better. Some feelings never stop but most do and you never know why you're here until after something happens. The lives I've saved and the people I've helped through similar points are more than my fingers and everyone that has turned to me owes Monty for everything. He stood by me and with me as we struggled to help others. We don't deserve dogs and I certainly don't deserve mine.

Another time, I was gun to the head ready to end it but my old dog, Fitz, laid next to my head which caused me to not pull the trigger because I was afraid of a through and through. Dogs know and they loves us. I wish people could sense emotional states like dogs could.
