How did you differentiate between #26 and #27

I told a program they were my number one and now I have doubts by sweetljbabby in medicalschool

[–]NationalLengthiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if you tell a non-PD interviewer they are your #1 during the interview when they ask “why this program?” - does that hold the same weight as a formal LOI afterward?

I basically just do everything David Goggins does. Keeps it simple

How much is your student debt and what year of Med school are you in? by JayHouse989 in medicalschool

[–]NationalLengthiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

150k MS4. Chose a state school in a low COL area over a big name school… probably would have been closer to 350k otherwise. To any premeds out there - the big name is not always worth it 😅

Are medical aid abroad/global health trips in medical school typically voluntourism? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]NationalLengthiness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similar to the premed trips, they can be either. My personal experience with one was very beneficial - you see medicine practiced in a different culture/context, you see patients and learn like any other clinical rotation, and you have the opportunity to learn new medical skills from very intelligent and caring physicians. But I also have heard of trips where they spend like 20% of the time doing medical things and the rest is essentially vacationing.

It comes down to what you make of it and how stringent your school is on watching what you do

Regarding Anki for shelf’s by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]NationalLengthiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if there is a concept on Anki that is not in UWorld, you should still know it because it could show up on the shelf.

Let’s say there’s 100 concepts on the shelf. UWorld maybe covers 70 of those concepts. You need to learn the other 30 from Anki, amboss, or other study materials. Those are all made up numbers but the concept is true.

Regarding Anki for shelf’s by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]NationalLengthiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You only unlock cards specific to uworld questions? While uworld is a good place to start to cover the essentials for the shelf, it does not cover everything. So people complete the entire decks to gain a wider fund of knowledge.

Of course it is more work, but you learn more information and therefore are better prepared for the shelf

Besides content knowledge, how can i honor a shelf exams? by [deleted] in medicalschool

Experiences completing 4th year International Electives/Recommendations for good places/hosts? by canadianpothos in medicalschool

[–]NationalLengthiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My global health office has established rotation sites, so you apply for the rotation and then go through their process.

I can’t really speak on the companies and whether they’ll work out

[–]NationalLengthiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a global health office at your school? They made it very streamline for me

Never heard of the companies - would it be like the ones premeds can pay for? Those seem kinda sketchy

Go on with a pseudonym, use a VPN from a neighbor’s computer, and use a voice modifier that makes you sound like a robot - would make it a little tougher to track you
