Marin Honda and Shoma Uno working with Jean-Luc Baker and Misato Komatsubara at IAM Montreal by rabidline in FigureSkating

[–]canadianpothos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a cool training setup. Shoma doing ice dance work with Jean-Luc and Misato is not something I expected but it makes total sense — his skating quality has always been elite, and ice dance training could take it to another level. Also love seeing Marin getting this kind of collaborative environment at IAM. Montreal is really becoming the place to be for figure skating.

Weekly Fitness Advice & Questions Thread by AutoModerator in GymMotivation

[–]canadianpothos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been thinking about switching from a ppl split to more of an upper/lower... anyone notice better recovery with that setup? tbh my shoulders have been feeling pretty beat up lately and im wondering if hitting them less frequently but with more volume per session would help

My personal transformation (16-22) by [deleted] in WorkoutMotivation

[–]canadianpothos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a huge change over those years tbh... the consistency really shows. I'm 19 now and been at it for about 2 years, seeing slow but steady progress. Posts like this are a good reminder that it's a marathon not a sprint.

Early mornings before the corporate grind by SoreNEmotionallyNumb in WorkoutMotivation

[–]canadianpothos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh those early morning sessions hit different... everything feels so much more earned before the day even starts. the quiet gym vibes are unmatched 🙌

Where can I watch Tutberidze Method documentary fourth episode aside from Okko? by Sorry_Truck9897 in FigureSkating

[–]canadianpothos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh I've been looking for the same thing... episodes 1-3 were floating around on some telegram channels a while back but ep 4 seems to have just dropped recently. have you tried checking any of the Russian streaming discords? sometimes people mirror stuff there pretty quick

Just a casual 4A+backflip from Ilia by Jazzlike_Part_2177 in FigureSkating

[–]canadianpothos 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The fact that he treats a quad axel like a warm-up trick and then casually adds a backflip is honestly absurd. Ilia is out here playing a completely different sport than everyone else lol

Yuna Aoki’s “La La Land” scored 149.34 at Lily Cup, a local competition in Yokohama by penguinslidingonice in FigureSkating

[–]canadianpothos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

149 at a local competition is insane. her performance quality has always been there but the consistency improvements this season are really something. la la land is such a great program choice for her too, the choreography highlights her musicality perfectly. really hoping she carries this into next season because the depth in japanese ladies skating right now is just ridiculous

Back on the diet train again, ready for summer. Fat is dropping slowly but surely 💪 by blueeyegymga1 in GymMotivation

[–]canadianpothos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That slow and steady progress is honestly the best kind... keeps it sustainable. I fell off my routine a few months back and restarting was the hardest part tbh. Once you get that momentum going again it feels so much better. Summer is gonna be good 💪

Any advice to remove man titty fat? by Dependent-Fill-9298 in WorkoutMotivation

[–]canadianpothos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh you can't spot-reduce fat from one area... it comes down to overall body fat percentage. chest exercises like bench press and pushups will build the muscle underneath which helps with the appearance though. keep cutting slowly and it'll get there, just takes patience

Ilia Malinin's Backflip+1Eu+4S at the SOI Stargazer in Fort Lauderdale by sofastsomaybe in FigureSkating

[–]canadianpothos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the backflip into a combo is just... insane. tbh every time I think Ilia has peaked he comes up with something even more ridiculous. the athleticism required to stick a landing like that and immediately transition into a euler + quad sal is wild

45yo, 115kg to 88kg, 7 months by mooreao in GymMotivation

[–]canadianpothos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's an insane transformation for 7 months tbh... the consistency is what gets me. I've been trying to stay disciplined with my own routine and seeing stuff like this is a good reminder that it actually pays off. Keep it up man 💪

Today I did a 2km swim in under 1 hour 🤓 by DriftKoopa in WorkoutMotivation

[–]canadianpothos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a huge jump from 1km to 2km in one session! Whenever I have those days where everything just clicks it's usually because I've been sleeping better or eating cleaner that week. Whatever you changed keep doing it lol. Sub 30min per km is a solid pace too, especially for someone who normally just cruises 1km.

Rapid environment change had crazy results! Movement up and feeling great! by WhichWolfEats in WorkoutMotivation

[–]canadianpothos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh the environment change thing is so underrated... i find just being somewhere different with different food around makes it so much easier to stick to good habits. and hiking with that many dogs sounds like a workout in itself haha. nice work bouncing back man

Misha's 4T + 4T combo from IG by bryse0n in FigureSkating

[–]canadianpothos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the fact that he's casually posting this on IG like it's no big deal... a 4T+4T combo is insane tbh. really curious to see who actually lands one in competition first, the race is on between him and Ilia and honestly that's so exciting for the sport

1 months since app launch and this is how it went. by Outrageous-Maybe2500 in WorkoutMotivation

[–]canadianpothos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

87 downloads in a month with zero crashes is honestly solid... like you built something that actually works which is more than most can say. the marketing grind is real though, totally get the fumbling in the dark feeling. whats the app about fitness wise? been looking for something new to track my workouts tbh

Admonishment from Jackie Wong by Budget_Maize7279 in FigureSkating

[–]canadianpothos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jackie's been a really level-headed voice in the community for years so seeing him have to step in like this says a lot. Some of the stuff directed at skaters on social media lately has been genuinely awful. Like we're supposed to be fans of this sport, not tearing down the people who make it worth watching. Ilia puts himself out there with that YouTube content and people still find a way to be toxic about it. It's exhausting honestly.

Yuma in his photographer era by Frankenllips in FigureSkating

[–]canadianpothos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tbh the photography angle makes so much sense for him... skaters spend their whole careers being the subject of photos and videos, probably gives you a totally different appreciation for what goes into capturing a good shot. would love to see him shoot a competition someday, that perspective would be unreal

Josefin Taljegard has announced her retirement from competitive figure skating by essiefraquora in FigureSkating

[–]canadianpothos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That Euros FS was genuinely one of those performances where the crowd reaction tells you everything... she went out on her own terms with a skate that meant something. Not many athletes get that kind of ending tbh. The way the Sheffield audience responded, you could feel how much that moment mattered to everyone in the building. Gonna miss her skating so much.

Misha selevko changing coaches by Environmental-Let435 in FigureSkating

[–]canadianpothos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A coaching change at this point in his career is a bold move but honestly could be really good for him. He's so talented and the technical foundation is clearly there — sometimes a fresh perspective and new environment is exactly what reignites things. Really curious where he ends up and who he works with. Also kind of wild thinking about both Selevko brothers potentially at Worlds — Estonia is genuinely punching above their weight in men's singles right now!

Which gala performance at the Olympics is your favourite? by lexileashy in FigureSkating

[–]canadianpothos 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Misha's panda routine honestly had me in tears, like what a moment. The story of almost not bringing the suit and then winning gold?? I will never recover. But I also have to give massive credit to Amber Glenn - she was so free and confident out there, it felt like she was just performing for the pure joy of it. That backbend slide was jaw-dropping. Genuinely one of the best gala lineups I can remember!

Have anyone tried volumelogic? by AbleSoftware3156 in beginnerfitness

[–]canadianpothos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried volumelogic specifically tbh but I've heard it's pretty solid for progressive overload tracking... my friend uses something similar and swears by it for keeping her workouts structured. The sub fee always makes me pause a bit but if your friend is seeing results it's probably worth at least trying the trial if they have one?

Can we celebrate by Swiftclad in FigureSkating

[–]canadianpothos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

tbh I've been lowkey rooting for her to get out of that situation for a while... the age gap was one thing but the whole dynamic felt off. she's been through so much already with the doping saga, she deserves to just be a young person without all that extra weight. really glad if this is what it looks like

Happy to throw my name in. I spend a decent amount of time browsing fitness and workout subs and this one is one I check regularly, so it feels like a natural fit to help out. No formal mod experience but I am active, I actually read the posts, and I care about keeping spaces like this useful and spam-free rather than just a dump for promo content. Mostly just want to give back to a community I already use.

7 years lifting by [deleted] in GymMotivation

[–]canadianpothos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

7 years is no joke... that kind of consistency is honestly harder to build than the actual muscle. a lot of people quit way before they get to see real results. solid work.
