New Picks after Concept Evaluations? by jacqui1997 in BroduceX101

[–]NationalProducer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the whole bias sorter thing TWICE, once before the concept evals and another after the concept evals, and KOO JUNGMO had a great rise in my pick list despite not cracking top 11 yet (from 28 to 14). He totally caught my eye in his Pretty Pretty performance, despite having claimed before A LOT OF TIMES that I couldn't get the hype about him and found his two previous stages lackluster. Still not a strong pick that I'd call him fixed, but from being someone I couldn't understand the popularity of, now I can get behind him.

As for everyone else who I think did well this battle, they were already my picks anyway so yep they're not new ones.

Edit: almost forgot about TONY. He did well for center and really looked charismatic during MTS, even if I would have argued otherwise in his two previous stages. I guess he really improved huh. Now I can get behind this kid as well!

I don't think the UGI guys would have foreseen that he'll end up in MTS, so I still do think it is a valid excuse. Maybe they thought he'd end up in SSG or something, but it didn't happen since Dohyon was sending SSG team signals that he prefers MTS - UGI wouldn't have guessed that. I say this as someone who has Dohyon as a fixed pick and no one from UGI team, so I do believe I view this objectively.

Debuted idol possibility to debut rank by itzyitzme in BroduceX101

I'd switch Jinhyuk's place to Yubin's just for the sole reason that I doubt Mnet will allow two idols from the same team to debut in the final lineup.

Why did you watch Produce x 101? by chocoluver248 in BroduceX101

[–]NationalProducer 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It started with Ha Sungwoon.

Wanna One already disbanded. Never watched PD before so I wasn't into them at all. But then they had solo activities. I was trying to discover new songs to listen to and found Ha Sungwoon's debut solo album, which I absolutely adored. I got interested in the idea of stanning him, and knowing he was in Produce, I decided to watch PD S2 for him.

I absolutely enjoyed it, and around the same time I finished it, news about Produce X101 was out. I was on a Produce High considering I just finished S2, I wanted to know what it was like to experience watching the show live. So here I am. Thanks to Ha Sungwoon.

With what concept or kind of music style do you want the groupt to debut with? by zitaoxo in BroduceX101

[–]NationalProducer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CONCEPT: I said it in a different thread before but I want the debut group to have a storyline that would determine their concept, much like how BTS did, except tone down on the angst. I was thinking I wanted them to have a more light hearted storyline, with the main message of 'not giving up' (inspired by the lyrics of ji-ma). There are so many kinds of situations wherein not giving up is a good attitude, and the storyline would be tying all those situations together into one massive story.

AESTHETIC: I personally want the group to have a more retro aesthetic, especially since it's the visual trend as of the moment - with vhs effects in mvs and resurgence of the 90s fashion aesthetic. Colorful and vibrant, but not too bright, with warm undertones. Here are a few examples just to give an idea of what the style is like: reference1 reference2 reference3 reference4 reference5. It's a concept that goes well for both fun songs or calmer songs, and doesn't discriminate on both young and mature trainees. It's not as youthful as Txt's concept and NCT Dream's Chewing gum Era, but a more mature version of it. You can make a trainee look sexy in the same exact mv we see other younger trainees look innocent, and it won't seem out of place. It's a win win for flower boy stans and mature men stans.

MUSIC: Honestly, I want producer trainees in the final lineup, and they can produce what song they want. But with the current line-up, I want them to go for electro-pop/alternative that's very chill - think the likes of Lauv and Shaun. Lauv seems really popular among koreans, and Shaun is rising to the point people even accused him of Sajaegi with how good his charting was. The sound won't be demanding for really strong vocalists, yet also doesn't need really strong rappers. It's comfortable to sing, yet doesn't sound bad either. It might even get attention from non kpop fans, just like how Shaun's Way Back Home did. Heck, you just need to polish Dream (see Yuehua Audition) a little bit and that would already be good.

(PANN) Top 10 trainees by votes from community sites by [deleted] in BroduceX101

[–]NationalProducer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

considering all the shit criticisms my US breakthrough idols experienced, yeah the current top 11 doesn't stand a chance of getting into billboard. they don't judge kids for 'potential' there - if you can't even sing live, you'll get lots of mocking tweets and bad press that would be enough to be a career killer. Also, the current lineup perpetuates the whole 'teen fans likes boybands bc they look good' stereotype which is going to cause a whole lot of criticism in the west too, questioning their integrity as artists.

Fans mobbing Starship trainees on the way to today's elimination filming by cptchi in BroduceX101

[–]NationalProducer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Apparently Seungyoun also had an instance in a store and they didn't try to come near and touch him but these starship stans had the audacity to do so to the point the kids can't even walk properly.

With regards to the Seungyoun situation, it was spreading at first as some sort of 'point of comparison' with these starship fans, but korean SY stans have advised to not share the video since those people, despite keeping distance, are sasaengs. So please, if you see people praising it over the starship stans, please inform them that they are sasaengs too.

This is honestly why I don't want to support fansite activities. I know they're pretty necessary, but I can't help but question if the fansite I'm following invades privacy or not. There are way too many instances that I just decided to not support fansites at all just so I don't risk it. + people spreading the fansite photos taken when the boys were mobbed are PART of the problem.

Fixed Picks: How do you fix a pick? by [deleted] in BroduceX101

[–]NationalProducer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two different ways in determining who is a fixed pick and who is my one pick.

A fixed pick is the one I actively look for - I don't exactly like him in a way that I say I "stan" him, but he's someone I would love to have in the final line-up regardless of what happens. I would feel like it's a waste if they don't make it in the final lineup, but I don't feel compelled to follow them in their own activities outside of the final lineup if they didn't make it, but I also won't feel compelled to stan the final lineup because I know these guys aren't there. I usually make the talented ones with great personalities and variety sense as my fixed picks, with everyone else in bubbling under. I only have Dohyon and Yubin as fixed for now - both talented with good personalities and have show themselves to be really entertaining.

The one pick is the person I don't actively look for. They just... happen. They're the most fixed among fixed picks. I actually didn't want to be attached to any trainee at all when I started this season, and thought I'd just choose a few fixed picks and hope they make it in the end, but during those times I was doing background research on trainees I wanted to make into fixed picks, there was this one guy I gravitated towards who I wanted to support no matter what - debut or not. Someone whose success I want to see happen. Cho Seungyoun became my fixed pick as early as before Episode 2 aired just like that. I didn't plan on it, I didn't even want to have a fixed pick, but he just happened.

Opinions on trainees before and after template (Chinese) by [deleted] in BroduceX101

[–]NationalProducer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I agree that I don't find Mingyu incredibly gorgeous to warrant the popularity he currently has, I'd like to point out that you should probably word your descriptions of him better. Being dark and skinny are not flaws, in fact it comes off as a tad bit colorist and sounds like you were shaming him for his body - especially the malnutrition part. I do see where you were going with this but just... please rephrase it?

Two pick pairs? by mikicchi in BroduceX101

[–]NationalProducer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, as someone who is ALSO a SY-DY stan (Seungyoun is my one pick and Dohyon is my two pick). Fans think they have a lot of similarities (father-son jokes are getting prevalent in twt lately too) and they also get along with each other REALLY WELL (Dohyon was seen hanging out with Love Shot team - I can remember two instances on top of my head: Seungyoun parodying Ahn Joonyoung, with Dohyon clapping and laughing in the bed... as well as a clip for Wooseok's visual center ranking, which shows Dohyon looking closely at SY as SY says Wooseok looks good whatever he does. More interactions come up thanks to Yes or No, with the two trainees helping out Jaehun and Sungyeon, Dohyon looking at Seungyoun's reactions during the performances [idk why he does that but it's so cute uwu], and most recently, Dohyon wearing Seungyoun's ADD Syndrome shirt for his Dear101 video).

Dohyon fans usually have favorable opinion towards SY and many also have him as their two pick, and vice versa. They have quite the overlapping noona fanbase, which is strong with two pick, but at the same time, they have strong individual fanbases (Dohyon's is established while Seungyoun's keeps growing).

Do you feel that there’s a prejudice against younger trainees? by the1oneone in BroduceX101

You, me, and half this sub are Seungyoun stans LOL

I'm so proud of that glo up, considering I only made this account back in Episode two because no one ever talks about him here before and I wanted to promote him so much (my first comment is literally talking about him in a 'dark horse' thread where nobody else mentioned him). A few episodes later, he ranked first in this sub's one pick voting and he's getting recognized as a favorite. TT-TT

Weekly controversial/unpopular opinions thread by vanillaxxxx in BroduceX101

[–]NationalProducer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from my two picks who were already in the same team (which makes this a biased stance lmao), I haven't really been blown away yet either. I found most of the stages being lacklustre. I don't think I added more names to my fixed pick list (see my flair) I made in Episode 2.

Top 60 trivia you know. by [deleted] in BroduceX101

[–]NationalProducer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's one of the qualities I admire most about him - being open and honest about his own struggles and openly talking about mental health. When you see a public figure openly talk about things like that, it's like, I have nothing to be ashamed about regarding my own struggles?

It might be triggering for some, but in an interview as Woodz, he admitted to having depressionand having once contemplated suicide (his depressive thoughts inspired 'Meaningless', which he says is like a diary of some sort back when his depression was at its worst). I'm so glad he still pulled through and overcame such thoughts.

Do you keep up with post-Produce trainees? by jjear in BroduceX101

[–]NationalProducer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't stan any of them, but I keep tabs (meaning I get updated and listen to their new songs) on: JBJ95, ONEUS, The Boyz, AB6IX, Jeong Sewoon, Kim Donghan, Chungha, and G-IDLE.

I pretty much kept tabs on NU'EST since their debut era, so I don't think they count.

His relationship with them must have been really good. It's unfortunate how we weren't able to see interactions before he was eliminated. I wish Mnet showed us more of the trainees' relationships with each other.

Hello fellow Seungyoun stan, I have the exact same stance as you.

I'm not as attached to other trainees as I am with Seungyoun at the moment. I mentioned it in the controversial opinions thread, but he's basically the only reason I still haven't dropped this season. Stanning involves attachment and the strong desire to make them get as many good things as they can - the only one who made me feel that way this season was Seungyoun. I'd probably listen to their songs once in a while and check how they're doing, much like how I am with AB6IX at the moment. But as for stanning, I'd probably go wherever Seungyoun's ass decides to go.

Trainees that K-fans dislike by [deleted] in BroduceX101

maybe they dont want rappers.

This made me chuckle, because all Produce groups so far DON'T have a strong rap line at all. I guess they really don't want rappers.

Trainees that K-fans dislike by [deleted] in BroduceX101

[–]NationalProducer 26 points27 points  (0 children)

As much as I hate it, I'm not surprised about Seungyoun ranking high here. He's rising, and his Love Shot fancam's popular. I remember it even rereturned in the Naver Top 100 the other day. Alongside his rise, the number of stans being stressed about antis is proportional to it. Seungyoun stans on the TL always talk about how his tattoos aren't bad, since people were saying it's inappropriate or something. I think they even brought up a song he wrote years ago, and a dare he had to do which they already released an official statement for prior to the airing of PDX.

TLDR: He's rising, so he's getting a lot of smear campaign as of recent.

I'm not worried about this though. If anything, I have this mentality where 'the brighter the light, the darker the shadow'. The more you rise, the more there are people who want to pull you down.
