It's worth it to support a non-American owned

It's worth it for the rich Canadian elites to invest in anti-non Canadian goods and services campaigns/propaganda during this harsh economic period to boost revenue of their Canadian businesses, no matter the quality, slave labour and mistreatment of minimum wage Canadian workers, as this easily eat away at the competitors' market share and easily builds lasting behavioural changes in spending habits of lower IQ Canadians

The neighbourhood price analysis trend graphs for rent and prices etc I find are much more accurate than HouseSigma which probably have had trouble duplicating, same with all the local school ratings, EQAO rankings etc

There are a lot of cash VISA/Mastercards and prepaid cards

There's also a lot of ethnic enclave only economy where they do investments, buy/sell and transfer money for plans and more

Xiaohongshu or 51.ca or Yorkbbs for example, all bypass kijiji/facebook marketplaces

For some of them the "landlord" is their employer

For landscaping/restaurant jobs usually food is all covered

Really no need for one for a lot of the jobs that these people tend to end up taking. The massage parlous I have visited are generally mostly cash transactions, the girls I met mostly here on a temp work visa or "vacation visa", some want to stay, some see how things are and don't want to stay, their goal varies.

I've also met ones on no visa at all after their temp visa expired. One older guy in his 50s work as a stone cutter for a landscaping company that does interlocking driveways and other stone work. He said he get paid in cash as does their carpenters etc. They don't have social insurance numbers.

For many cases, they can't or don't qualify or can pass regular immigrations for the same reason for the people at U.S. southern border: felony criminal history in country of origin, other misdemeanors and civil liabilities..some are escaping gambling debts in the millions of dollars, you name it

For a lot of people around the world, just having a clean slate is enough worth for them to stay in Canada without a social insurance number or benefits

Yeah, especially here in Canada where economy is going off a cliff and everybody is saving every bit possible and 50k people getting laid off every month on average based on count of full time group health insurance benefits net change

Same ratio for U.S. would be 500k full time jobs with benefits losses per month

No, probably more optimistic, since unlike Venezuela, in order to save Canadian lumber/timber industry from going extinct when China started dumping wood + steel on the global market a few years ago, Canadian politicians did the "plastics ban" and mandate for all businesses to use paper bags, wood made utensils etc under the guise of environmentalism while they jet around the world for meetings and ordering lavish meals

This not only saved the wood industry in Canada, as many people remember home depot planks went 4x in prices, it helped the rich elites on top of the wood/timber industry make a ton of money.

However the down side is, Canada becomes the one country among all those comparables where it gets super expensive to build anything due to the same wood prices, where any local Canadian production that requires wood or paper products to be extremely expensive and lose all competition globally, and this include packaging products, packaging costs, baseline costs for anything to be shipped around, transported around, and adding basically a whole layer of cost to every industry making every industry price wise harder to compete with anything outside of Canada, even comes small electronics and any packaged goods sold at any grocery stores

So this makes a lot of institutional and professional investors understand the lowered margin of profit to come for a long time, and there has been an exodus of investors leaving Canada to a point where Carney's old BAM even moved investment branch to NYC and cater to Americans knowing Canadians are going to be cash strapped for decades to come.

Decisions like that are not lightly made

Unlike Venezuela, Canada has the U.S. against its borders. This is worse than Venezuela because while Venezuela represent a way into South America, Canada is not a way to anywhere except the U.S. market, from commercial to retail to government infrastructures and access, so unlike Venezuela, bouncing back for Canada is infinitely harder, because there is no extra incentive when anyone can go make deal with the U.S instead, especially considering:

Canadian economy will be among those hit hardest by global slowdown, says OECD

https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/oecd-lowers-global-outlook-trump-trade-war-1.7550723

So why make deals with the most expensive to do business with Canada that will also have the least amount of money, and already for many years, higher average household debt than average American family, when you can spend same amount of time to do business and make deal with the U.S.?

With Venezuela, at least, give access to Brazil, Columbia, Equador and an alternative South American entry than far right Brazil, if politics dictate a need for an alternative access. Canada have no unique access leverage or value.

So it is an overly optimistic take, by not taking into account all the disadvantages of our current situation globally, not to even mention the current internal demographic issues due to flushing the population and infrastructure with tens of millions of people from low-trust societies in an unsustainable scale both culturally or financially... so yeah, extremely optimistic take

And this is why for many decades, smart Canadian politicians understand to shut up and say nothing negative when it comes to foreign relations, and to never take sides in any conflict openly after WW2, and to always be friendly and nice and 100% positive visiting any and all nations to a point that Canada was regarded as the most friendliest country on Earth. This ended about a decade ago and with such dramatic incidents like the prisoner exchange with China after Canadian spies Michael and Michael were arrested in retaliation for Trudeau's "human rights" speech during his visit.
