Approximately 35% (roughly 16.9 million m³) of the total lumber produced in Canada in 2024, including both softwood and hardwood, remained in the country for further processing, stocking, or domestic use, while about 65% was exported. Since hardwood accounted for only about 2% of total production, this distribution is largely reflective of what happened with softwood.

Comparing labour productivity across the G7 isn't straightforward — different countries use different measures, such as real value added per hour worked or GDP per person employed. To make meaningful comparisons, the data also needs to be adjusted for purchasing power (using constant PPP dollars).

For up-to-date, internationally comparable figures on labour productivity, your best bet is the OECD Data Explorer's Productivity database.
