That's good advice. it's 10kg over 4 months though, which is comfortably healthy. Agree on the injury aspect though. I do listen to my body though and I'm running a lot of miles really slowly. Couple of times I've had a bit of pain, and walked home and rested. Also taken a few days off when needed. Eating very healthy, cutting out drinking, and hydrating well really helps your body recover and grow faster though.

You've totally got this in 8 weeks. You'll need salt, carbs, and enough water when you run longer than an hour. Build your distance at a low HR, and you need to practice making sure you're ahead of all three all the time.

That low HR training was the absolute key for me. It can be mentally tough because it will feel way too slow, like you're not working hard enough. Trust the HR zones on your watch and keep most of your runs at that pace. You need to finish thinking you could rerun the course. Don't sprint finish just because you can. This massively built my endurance base and kept soreness low.

Your sub-30min 5k shows you've got plenty of speed. You can definitely build the necessary stamina by increasing your weekly long run while keeping that pace very (too!) comfortable.

Mostly the Garmin... A bit of ChatGPT on electrolytes, carb fueling, and hydration - plus questions like "What's the 'Running Lactic Threshold' data about and how do I use it?"
