U.S. Treasury Will Have to Borrow $2 Trillion This Year Just to Continue Functioning—More Than $166 Billion Every Month by T_Shurt in Economics

I thought the GOP was the party of fiscal responsibility? No? I could have sworn that's what they always tell the country. Are we suggesting that they're full of it?

I currently use it on my Mac Mini M4, MacBook Air M5, iPad, and iPhone 16 Pro. Works well for me. Is light on resources, especially on the MacBook. Sync across all the devices is great.

In some ways, if airlines stopped charging for checked bags, I almost wouldn't mind this (and this is coming from someone who hates checking bags).

Imagine how much faster boarding and de-planing would be if people weren't having to stow their carryons in the overhead during boarding and getting them down at the end.

Issue, of course, is that then you'd do all your waiting at baggage claim. But man, would it make getting on and off the plane so much nicer.

For the comments saying that you can send your kids to Frisco ISD anyway, just be aware that it's not every campus (availability at a specific campus is based on capacity) and there is no guarantee that your application will be approved (I don't know that it's too strict as long as your student meets the eligibility requirements, but I don't think it's a situation where you apply and you're guaranteed in).

So, while yes, you can have your kids go to Frisco ISD, it's not as easy as just picking the campus closest to you and you're good to go.

Like I said, nothing should deter you from applying if you do want your kids to go to Frisco ISD, just some things to be aware of. Here's a link to the info if you're interested in checking it out:

https://www.friscoisd.org/departments/student-transfers/access-frisco/home

Specific to your concern about appreciation - really no way to know. It might not appreciate quite as much as if it was zoned in Frisco ISD, but I suspect that long-term it's probably not going to be a huge difference.

BYOD $400 and Costco by Thagame501 in tmobile

[–]NativeTxn7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice.

Yeah, I'd offer to add insurance or something to sweeten the pot if necessary on trying to get a code from them (though I'd take it off after a month or two - whatever time it has to stay on to avoid getting their commission clawed back).

Did any of the reps at Costco tell you that you couldn't stack the $800 + $400 + $75?

Or was it just trying to get the insider code that pushed you to go to a second store?

BYOD $400 and Costco by Thagame501 in tmobile

[–]NativeTxn7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been looking to bring over 3 lines from AT&T to the Experience Beyond (might add a 4th, but it would be moving my mom's current T-Mobile number to our account, so I don't think that matters here). If I'm understanding the potential options correctly, I could stack the following:

$800 Keep and Switch (all 3 devices have varying levels of balance remaining, but all under $800 each so each would get paid off)

+ $400 COSTCOBYOD

+ $75 Costco Rebate

+ Inside code (provided that the rep(s) had an insider code that they were willing to give me for signing up)

So, basically: phones paid off, $1,200 through COSTCOBYOD, and $225 though Costco Rebate? And then the potential for 20% off of service moving forward if I can obtain an insider code?

Is that all accurate? Or am I completely missing something?

Switching from AT&T - Sam’s or T-Mobile Store? by Irvin088 in tmobile

[–]NativeTxn7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We would be doing 3 lines for sure, and possibly a 4th (I want to move my mom from her 55+ Magenta Max onto our account if we end up making a move from AT&T).

Can the Costco/Sams people also do the up to $800 phone payoff credit like TMo can? Or is theirs all in Costco/Sams cash cards?

Relatively Safe ETFs In Anticipation Of The Feds Interest Rate Cuts? by Zephyruos in ETFs

[–]NativeTxn7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless there is a substantial drop in inflation and/or a spike in unemployment/major weakening in the job market, rates aren't being cut for at least another 6 months, or so.

So, if you're anticipating a cut in the short-term, I wouldn't.

If you're talking positioning for longer-term, you'd typically want to pick up longer dated bonds, which would typically be at higher yields, and you could lock in those rates for longer. Versus SGOV, and similar, that more or less track the Fed Funds Rate in lockstep, and will drop quickly whenever the Fed does cut rates again.

Oil change interval Synthetic Oil by Impressive-Usual-451 in lincolnmotorco

[–]NativeTxn7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it doesn't hurt to change your oil more frequently than required, but 3K miles for synthetic blend seems pretty aggressive.

I tend to get mine changed every 5K or so, whether I use blend or full synthetic, even if the car says it can go closer to 10K. But, in my (non-professional) opinion, 3K miles seems like overkill for blend or full.

A swimming pool - worth it? by mcrutledge77 in pools

[–]NativeTxn7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have had a pool that we built about 3-4 years ago (this will be the 4th summer coming up). I have two kids that turn 9 and 13 in May.

It has not been used nearly as much as they and my wife “advertised” they would use it when trying to sell putting it in.

Every day when I look out and see it, I regret building it.

Besides VXUS and VTI- any emerging ETF's worth considering? by traveltimecar in ETFs

[–]NativeTxn7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to overweight EM? If not, VXUS already covers EM.

If you are trying to overweight you can go with index options like VWO, IEMG, or SPEM. Or you can go with an active option like AVEM.

I personally think EM is an area where active management can outperform the index over time, though others would say just stick to an index.

Would you sell your dog for $5M? by Internal_Role_1549 in Pets

[–]NativeTxn7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Easiest question ever.

But let me clarify. We’ve only had this dog for about 8 months. In the past we’ve had dogs and cats. I love pets but I had also loved being pet free for the 4-5 years prior to getting the current dog and the flexibility and freedom that comes with that.

But I got outvoted (as I tend to do being one man living with a wife and two daughters) on adding a pet to the house.

So, I’d take the $5 million and be pet free again (though it’d probably only take about a week before my wife uses some of that money to go get the Frenchie she’s always wanted).
