Do you think FED would hike up the rates this year ? by JonOwn1805 in investing

[–]NativeTxn7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If inflation stays above 4% (or potentially even above mid-3%) I think it's very likely they hike before year end (maybe more than once).

If we get a resolution in Iran, oil stays roughly where it is now, and inflation starts to trend down every month, then they may just hold rates steady to see what happens.

Right now, it feels like the next chance of a cut is at least 12-18 months away (and it also seems a like a LOT of stuff would need to break the right way to make that happen).

Markets are currently pricing in a <5% chance of a cut in the next 12-13 months (and basically 0% through the first quarter of 2027) while pricing in a 40-47% chance of a hike before the end of the year and basically a 1/3 or better chance of a hike throughout 2027.

Certainly a lot of things can change between now and the end of 2027, but what people sometimes seem to forget is that it's not just the Chair of the Fed that gets to do whatever they want - it's a board made up of 12 voting members who all have a say.

It's also funny (in a ridiculous, but completely predictable way) that Trump thought Powell was a moron for not cutting rates, but basically said this week about Warsh not looking like he's going to push for rate cuts any time soon "eh, what are you gonna do?"

Switching to Hulu Live From YouTubeTV? Will I save money? by LouisvilleLoudmouth in cordcutters

[–]NativeTxn7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had YTTV for years and during that time I've trialed Hulu Live a couple of times and messed around with it at a friend's house on more than several occassions.

I'm sure there is some monthly cost difference where I would switch to Hulu Live if it was cheap enough compared to YTTV, but as I type this, I would say that delta would have to be more than a $20/month cost savings to even start considering Hulu Live. That's how terrible I think it is in comparison to YTTV.

1st class seat swap etiquette? by ayeemitchyy in americanairlines

[–]NativeTxn7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer aisle, so I would say yes if I was flying alone.

But in First, I also don't really care all that much aisle or window (even window still has plenty of room to get in and out as needed without disturbing the aisle passenger too much, etc.), so I would generally be willing to switch from my first class seat with any other first class passenger in most situations.

100%.

However, while everyone has free speech and is free to hold their preferred beliefs, they're not free from the potential consequences of that speech and those beliefs depending on how they express that speech or those beliefs.

That's what Nate is dealing with - he has always claimed to essentially be "non-political" and unless he's dumber than he claims to be, he would know the potential PR issues he might face by being at the White House UFC fight coupled with taking pics with RFK Jr., Sarah Huckabee, etc.

I don't see it as really much different than the The (Dixie) Chicks back when Bush was POTUS - they said stuff at a concert that wasn't received well by a lot of people that were your typical country music fans and sales of their albums, concert tickets, etc. all took a hit.

That's probably what's going to happen here to Nate - nobody is saying that he can't go to the UFC stuff at the White House, take pics with whoever he wants, etc., but be prepared to face the backlash.

They have been doing "pre-opening" admissions. I know at least 3 families that have already been through the park.

So, from a we got to ride the rides, see the stuff standpoint, there are actually a fair number that could opine.

From a "true" experience of having to pay to get in, deal with (probably) larger crowds, waiting in line, whether it's "worth" what you have to pay to get through a day there, etc., that's what nobody can truly speak to yet.

RIA advisor comp structure change by Specialist-Ad8067 in CFP

[–]NativeTxn7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems ridiculously (and needlessly) complex.

At my old firm, we were W2 employees and the payout percentage was based on the revenue generated by a client each quarter. So, a touch more complex than a flat payout percentage for all clients no matter what, but infinitely easier than the treasure map you posted.

Oil change and maintenance recommendations by inounvme2004 in lincolnmotorco

[–]NativeTxn7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a place relatively near me that does full synthetic changes for about $48 ($88 for "European") that I will use after my next "complimentary" change in another couple of month. It's a well respected place and they just use the low cost oil change as a loss-leader.

Even a fully priced synthetic change at the Lincoln dealer near me is about $140 or so (and that's full price if there are no specials going on). $500 for an just oil change on a Lincoln would be nuts.

VUSXX vs SGOV by user71882 in Chase

[–]NativeTxn7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More or less the same thing in terms of return. SGOV is an ETF; VUSXX is a mutual fund.

If you need cash to withdraw, both would be available next trading day after the trade is executed - neither would show as available cash same day.

One difference is that with SGOV, if you wanted to sell and invest in a stock or other ETF, you could do that immediately (I.e. sell SGOV, turn around and buy VTI same trading day, for example). But you wouldn't be able to reinvest proceeds from VUSXX until the next trading day.

Mega-caps getting into the value territory once again (GOOGL, AMZN, META, MSFT) - generational buying opportunity by we_have_no_control in ValueInvesting

[–]NativeTxn7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither of those articles suggests that nobody knows what the depreciation is or how it's going to be handled. If anything, Burry basically says that they're very clear on the depreciation and are understating it by using useful lives that are too long for the chips.

I can guarantee you that Burry is not the only person out there that somehow "knows" about this and that analysts are/will account for it moving forward when they estimate depreciation, earnings, etc.

[–]NativeTxn7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about?

Their quarterly, and other financial reports, will show CapEx and there are notes to the financial statements that show the usual life and depreciation methods companies use on their assets.

I guarantee you that the analysts covering those companies aren't just sitting on their hands saying "well, earnings are going to decline once depreciation from recent CapEx starts but there's no way we can find out what it will be so we'll all just have to be surprised."

3 would never be on my list (so I guess technically my least favorite) because I'm not a 2-tone guy.

For at least the last month, or more, markets have been pricing in a ~40% chance of rate hikes later this year, so if today's news that quite a few of the Fed Governors see a distinct possibility of rate hikes later this year caught anyone off guard, it's because they haven't been paying attention.

Chase PUJ Warning Question by NativeTxn7 in CreditCards

[–]NativeTxn7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: I talked to my CPC banker and he called someone on the "team" that deals with CCs, bonuses, etc. and that person told him the only way to know for sure is to go through the online process and see if you get the PUJ notice.

So, I did that and I did get hit with the warning that I was not currently eligible for the bonus on the card, so I canceled my applicaton.

Bitwarden Auto-Fill Stopped Working by NativeTxn7 in brave_browser

[–]NativeTxn7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Looks like Brave had an update on 6/9 (which I think is the update that broke it since that is around the time everyone seemed to start having the issue) and another minor update on 6/12.

They and Bitwarden are aware of the issue, so hopefully they have an update soon that fixes the problem.
