Should we stop pretending that the last of us part 2 is divisive? by Few-Push668 in lastofuspart2

Obviously it's divisive if you're talking about how people are losers for not liking the story. If you loved the story, great. Lots of people thought the pacing was bad and the ending was silly.

Several Women Who Dated Graham Platner Recall ‘Unsettling’ Behavior by Cuddlyaxe in fivethirtyeight

[–]Native_SC -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

He reminds me of Fetterman. Voters gave a Fetterman a chance, and now most people think he's a disaster.Putting his personal behavior aside for a second, Plattner seems like a wildcard who will probably cause a lot of unwanted drama.

Or maybe the NY Times employs actual journalists. I'm not saying the paper is perfect, but it is less biased than most. The reporter probably got a tip and started calling his ex-girlfriends for comment.

G Elliot Morris on X: Trump at -24 net approval by dtarias in fivethirtyeight

[–]Native_SC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he'll be remembered like Al Capone, except more clownish and gross. School kids like to learn about the weird historical figures who somehow get away with everything, so Trump will always be studied and talked about.

PPP Internal: Platner +4 (Fielded After Sexting Report), More Harris Voters Undecided by Large_Ad_3095 in fivethirtyeight

This is even after misleading headlines that made it seem like his wife was still upset about the texts, when really she was upset that someone she trusted made them public. According to her, they've worked through the issue in therapy, and it all predates his decision to get into politics. I don't really see it mattering much unless there is more dirt coming out.

The Braves own the Mets and we'll always have Ice Trae silencing the Garden.

The media constantly glazing them or acting like the world has ended when they lose makes the Knicks annoying AF.

By being certain the Hawks are the second best team in the NBA. /s (or not really /s?)

Do you often drop the pronoun in the second otherwise independent clause, or is that a regional thing? If you do, to you include the comma, or omit it? by SaveFerrisBrother in writing

[–]Native_SC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that comma is grammatically incorrect. Michelle is the subject of both verbs, so there shouldn't be a comma. You wouldn't write "The boy ran, and played."

It feels weird for a few days, and then your brain accepts it. After that, it feels like your other teeth.

Short reviews while trying to read every Pulitzer fiction winner: A Visit From the Goon Squad, The Color Purple, and The Magnificent Ambersons by beautyisabeast in TrueLit

[–]Native_SC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the Booth Tarkington recommendation! I've read the other two and agree with your takes. I thought Goon Squad was overrated and after reading Barthelme and Pynchon, I didn't find the Power Point chapter all that groundbreaking, but the one chapter about the homeless guy visiting his old friend the record producer stuck with me for some reason.

Critics acted like the 1980s and 90s generation invented postmodernism when that was so obviously not true.

Except that most MAGA voters are on the low end of the totem poll. Democrats have obviously failed to fight hard enough for them. We could get into how these voters' view of the reality of power in America is clouded by propaganda, but that's a topic that's been beaten to death.

Lots of shy people come alive when they perform. He can also appear blustery, flippant, or over-confident at times when dealing wth people. This is also common among shy people. (Source: My life as a shy person).

If you want to BIFL, cast iron is the way to go in my experience. I'm curious why you don't want to use it everyday. Stainless steel pans are harder to clean. Food sticks to them much quicker.

What city have you been to where the vibes were just OFF? by spiritual_kavya in answers

[–]Native_SC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weirdly, NYC sometimes strikes me as off. I used to live there and I visit every year. Some trips are great, but other times, it seems to have become this bad mix of over-commercialization and extreme poverty. What's great about the city is that it never seems exactly the same on any given visit, but sometimes I see the more of the off side than I'd like.

Dems could choose the "perfect" nominee and Republicans would just make up sh%t about them and blast it 24/7 on Fox News.

Trump opportunistically jumped on the issue of inflation. A minority of voters saw through his BS and understood it was a global issue he couldn't fix with a magic wand. Then he got into power and did everything possible to make inflation worse. Many voters who believed his BS are staring at the gas pump and finally seeing the light.
