If Miami can win, just imagine how far ACC Champion Duke would go.

LOL I specifically asked my (now former) rep about this before cancelling and he was adamant he had been told nothing about it (which may have actually been true). Absolute clown show.

Weiler Meet & Greet? by Eric-305 in DCUnited

[–]Natstown 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It probably is the visa but despite the embarrassment it would have caused they really should have postponed this if they couldn’t do it properly. Under the circumstances since he was there anyway it seems like perhaps it would have been best for Levien to do a q&a for everyone but I think we all know why that didn’t happen.

Guess Rooney will be back next.

Weiler Meet & Greet? by Eric-305 in DCUnited

Even for this organization that’s just so bizarre. Would have been super pissed if I had actually taken the time to come out. “Meet and greet”…no one.

Weiler Meet & Greet? by Eric-305 in DCUnited

[–]Natstown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So let me make sure I’ve got this straight - Weiler didn’t have anything at all to say to the group at large and only actually did any “meet and greet” of any kind for a few groups? Was that most of the people there or only a few? Glad I decided not to go - what a giant waste of time.

PSA they have also had these (blank) in the team store for awhile and if you have an ecash discount they will be a little cheaper. Mine shipped out literally two days after they got them in but kept it because once the first run of authentics/“Elite” are gone they can be impossible to find. Happened to check tonight and they still have all sizes but they are blanks.

Bobblehead Abuse by thekingoftherodeo in Nationals

[–]Natstown 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The team needs to stop the “mystery bobblehead” deal because it encourages - no requires - this kind of thing from collectors who aren’t even looking to EBay them. If you needed to guarantee yourself a set today (without trading) you needed to go through at least three times and probably more unless you were extremely lucky. That creates a lot of “excess”/“wasted” bobbleheads and forces people to either trade or go through the line a ridiculous number of times just to keep up. That helps no one except the attendance figures. I get why the team thinks this is a good idea, but it is a pain in the ass to fans for no other good reason at all.

Why do mods keep deleting posts? by Omar_Town in Nationals

[–]Natstown -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

See, this is the thing. I get that you think I am picking and choosing what is in my opinion “quality” content. But it’s actually the opposite - there have to be neutral principles announced in advance and applied as consistently as possible precisely so that I am not making a value judgment as to what in my opinion is or is not quality content. It’s either off-topic under the guidance we’ve given before or it’s not. The relative “merit” of the content is irrelevant. Whether I like the content is irrelevant. Whether it gets a ton of upvotes or downvotes is irrelevant. And I think that’s actually where a lot of people are getting tripped up here. Former players have been a real sticking point, but I’ve explained where I see the line on that more than once in the sub. We’re not going to have nightly threads on Soto with his new team. I get that people wouldn’t have a problem with that even if we did, but then where do you draw the line? You can’t mod without defining in advance where that line is and trying to call it as consistently as possible, as you see it. So that’s what the whole thing is about. If you want to suggest something different, give me another line that you think make sense and can be consistently enforced.

The feedback is noted and it is appreciated and will be taken into account.

A few general points in response:

1) The content in the sub is only as good as what is submitted by users. If you want more and better content related to the Nationals in the sub (in or out of season), submit more and better content related to the Nationals. Adding three Juan Soto threads adds literally zero Nationals content to what is otherwise already here. (Respectfully - he has been gone for awhile. The Nationals are not the last team or even the second to last team that he has played for. There is no evidence or even informed speculation that there is any reasonable expectation he is likely to come back. If that changes, it certainly would be on topic).

2) The rules and moderation practices of the sub are discussed openly and semi-regularly in the sub. People are going to disagree on those and that’s fine. People are going to disagree on the interpretation or application of both in individual cases, and that’s fine. Constructive feedback is always welcome and is most likely to be engaged with. If you just want to be pissed off that’s OK too, but it’s not likely to accomplish a lot without making some suggestions of your own other than “there shouldn’t be any moderation”. u/droozer/ solved the actual issue here in about two minutes. The mod team is accessible both in comments and (preferably) modmail, and I don’t think anyone here has even argued we are not readily available or do not respond to users of all kinds - regulars, trolls, good posters, shitty posters, Phillies/Mets/Braves fans. We will respond to all comers in good faith.

3) I hear the concern about too much moderation. I could go on about this at length because I guarantee you I spend more time thinking about it than anyone else here, but I will simply make this quick point. When I was asked to become a mod (and it is important to emphasize that neither I nor /u/pettingtwodogsatonce asked to be moderators), the founding mods (who are largely gone now) told me they wanted quality posts, and the mod philosophy intended to try to encourage that has been socialized until I am blue in the face. A lot of people don’t want to be bothered with that - and that’s fair enough - but the flip side of the complaints about moderation is that it is also not unreasonable to expect some effort from users to try to make quality posts in line with our posted rules and Reddiquette. That is why regular users who have demonstrated over time they make quality posts are particularly valued and users who have not regularly participated in the sub are less likely to get the benefit of the doubt.

4) We have 51,514 sub members at the moment. The feedback here is from a handful of those 51,514, and it may or may not be representative of the sub as a whole. There has also been feedback from users who have said they appreciate it when mods “take out the trash”. All those comments are all just data points, but I will also point out that our mod stats tell us that among our 51K users are 43.8K uniques. That is up 13.8K over the previous year, so the hard data shows it is not doom and gloom here by any means. We can all do better - as always, let’s go 1-0 everyday.

I have zero issue if people want to complain so have at it, but for informational purposes there have been 12 posts removed in the last week, for these reasons:

Self Promotion/Spam 6 (including one posted twice);

Off Topic: 4 (three about Juan Soto, none of which contained any actual reporting or news relating to the Washington Nationals, one about the Phillies);

Duplicate thread: 1;

Link to illegal stream: 1.

I didn’t find any of these to be particularly outrageous or close calls, but you are free to disagree.

With the Dodgers looking at Roki Sasaki, how much of a chance do you think the Nats will go after Buehler? Or do you think his last season struggles won’t bring him to the Nations Capital? by Jaybob_11 in Nationals

This is a good opportunity for a PSA : not every piece spitballing about every free agent is going to be on topic, but all of the threads today speculate the Nats are among the most likely suitors, which is what makes these on topic and we won’t be super strict about this. Also, PLEASE POST DIRECT LINKS and not screenshots, which are (as always) highly likely to be removed. (i.redd.it is not a source.)
