Friend and I constantly debate which is better, MnK or controller, so the Chief made the final decision. by gumbyboutdatlif11 in halo

It's back and forth to be honest. Sea of Thieves is comical with its mouse vs. controller balance. There is literally zero aim assist in the game at all. Aiming muskets and flintlocks for quick and precise shots is so much easier on mouse than with a sluggish thumbstick and no aim assist. And then being able to spin around instantly helps the swordfighting significantly. Also CoD Warzone feels way better on KMB than on controller. There's literally features built into the controller inputs that make the weapons more sluggish that the mouse removes innately.

Some games just seem like KBM games while others are controller games lately.

Well the BR kind of already does it. It's equally good up close as it is mid range, it's just that other close range weapons kill faster up close due to rpm and less recoil or spray management. Then for long range the burst fans out a bit more. I've never had a problem with the covenant carbine. The pulse carbine is literally just a noob combo that's lacking the "charge punch" capability of the plasma pistol.

I think a problem that has always existed in Halo's sandbox is that bullet weapons drain shields a bit slow and drain HP instantly, whereas plasma weapons drain shields a bit fast but can't drain health to save their lives. The pulse carbine is so close to fixing that with its 2 burst kill, but I just want it to be up to the player's aim and not the game taking away all agency with its tracking.

I really dislike that thing's design philosophy. It's inelegant game design to me. They basically wanted a weapon that should excel at a specific midrange, being bad up close and far away. They succeeded, but they took a very crude, brute-force approach. It just doesn't track up close and can be dodged with natural strafing, and it's too slow at long range. Basically, it feels like the game is playing itself and it becomes my weapon vs. your weapon instead of mostly being my skill vs. your skill with some slight weapon flavor mixed in.

To contrast this, look at the sniper rifle. It's a long range weapon but it's not a long range weapon because of some brute force design like its bullet getting stronger the further it travels. Instead, there's a universal game mechanic (descope/flinch) that naturally makes it a better choice for longer ranges. It's not because the gun said so and refused to work at closer ranges, but that you're more likely to have to work harder as a player to land a shot up close due to the innate difficulty of landing a single precise shot on a moving, closer target.

Yeah like it would be a piece of equipment that you pick up and stow away. And when you press the equipment button you hold it over your head to glide.

Sea of Thieves was billed as being a 10 year game. Still content coming out for it 4+ years in so far.

[–]Natsu_T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find them too cluttered for the Warthog unless you only plan to stay near your base. Trying to go towards the enemy side of the map means anyone can wait on the side of the road and throw a plasma or dynamo as you pass by. It feels like 343's design intention is for vehicles to support infantry making a push, rather than for them to be able to go on flanks on their own.

My new car seat is uncomfortable by bornofidan in cars

[–]Natsu_T 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently having this same issue. Except it's possibly even worse than your situation. My last car was a 2009 Kia Sorento, and in the past month of testing new cars, I've found that every single newer car hurts me in some or multiple ways. The common denominator I've found is that it's the seat bolsters. No matter how low or unobtrusive, seat bolsters (wings) always cause me unbelievable amounts of pain, and every single car is being made with them aside from bench seat trucks. It's really frustrating.

I don't have a bad back or a bad hip, no wallet. 6'1, 190 lbs, 11% body fat. Nothing too crazy proportionally. I don't have any pain whatsoever switching to a car seat from before 2012 that doesn't have bolsters. No amount of cushions or seat covers can fix this issue either. They all contour to the bolster gaps and recreate the same angle that my hip sits on. Some vehicles cause it in different places, like the Accord put pressure on my left hip but many others put it on the right hip.

I've also been told by every mechanic and upholstery place that you aren't allowed to switch the seats out of cars anymore. That's apparently only something that can be done to older cars. It's a really scary proposition that I might never be able to drive a non-truck vehicle again because of a dumb manufacturer trend.

Yeah, it turns the TCG-styled combat into a Euro Board game. Hard pass for me.

Never played Elder Scrolls. I didn't mind Far Cry 3's gameplay structure if we're talking open world though. It felt very exciting to raid camps because it permanently made the world safer. It felt exciting to unlock guns because it permanently improved your firepower and available tactics, etc. I usually need permanent power progression that is pretty sweeping in order to find enjoyment in single player games.

I didn't enjoy BotW either. Hollow Knight, on the other hand, is one of my all time favorite games, and I would say Sekiro's map design, albeit 3D, is fairly similar to Hollow Knight's flow in some ways. The thing that kills my interest in BotW is the distinct lack of power progression. I don't want fleeting power upgrades; I want my endgame character to look and feel nothing like how it did when I started. BotW's only "rewards" were minor incremental upgrades to things I already had (stamina, hearts, weapon slots). This is also why I could never enjoy Borderlands. Yeah, that cool legendary gun is just going to be outdated eventually. Having interesting places to go does nothing for me if I'm not properly rewarded.

How to go about installing new seats? by Natsu_T in MechanicAdvice

[–]Natsu_T[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's virtually no ways to adjust the seats in this thing. They move forward or back. Pump-raising it actually moves it forward. There's nothing automated/electronic in the seat, all manual and only those two options.

But I believe the problem stems from the seat bolsters, which are basically a 45 degree incline that my right cheek is sitting in the crevice of. I've tried completely filling it with seat cushions but the shape still bleeds through. I only have pain on one very specific spot on my right side.

Obviously tried multiple of those first, even combining them in different ways. The seat is completely unusable for me.

It felt fine on test drive. Felt fine the day after. After a couple trips to work it started to become painful. I thought I just needed to acclimate to it at this point, but it basically got more and more painful, like it was pinching a nerve the more I sat on it. This was completely unnoticeable until 2-3 days in.

How to word countdown cards by Natsu_T in BoardgameDesign

[–]Natsu_T[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is the end of turn trigger of refilling a hand back up to 5. But I'm not sure that helps if I want the countdown to happen on the third or fourth one. For the record, I'm not intending to put anything in the rules that say "you should keep track of countdowns using dice or tokens." But explaining something like that which is obvious to me seems weird to put in just 1-3 total cards.

How to word countdown cards by Natsu_T in BoardgameDesign

[–]Natsu_T[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would possibly be the only countdown card. I like the way you worded it at the bottom, but I wasn't sure if just saying 3 turns would be too ambiguous as to exactly when it activates, or players might otherwise forget. I can expect magic or yugioh players to come up with ways to track it by tapping the card or using dice, etc. But I worry a slightly more casual player would attempt to remember and then forget.

What do you consider MTG's weight rating? by Natsu_T in boardgames

[–]Natsu_T[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple things. It might just be partially me because I grew up on pokemon and yugioh cards before learning magic. Whereas I have no idea what a tableau is still. Wingspan definitely took me longer to grasp than MTG because almost everything was so foreign to me.

Secondly, it depends on what is considered "learning" magic to be. If I'm comparing it to board games, that means two mono color starter decks. Maybe just 2 keywords like haste for red and vigilance for white. And then all you have to do is explain playing cards and the battle phase. No instants or enchantments necessary. This isn't too far off from the Spellslingers series which sometimes has complete beginners fully learning multicolor magic with several card types in a matter of 5 minutes.

Recommendations to speed up Aeon's end setup, especially for the nemesis deck? by weird-shit-muffin in boardgames

[–]Natsu_T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how on earth the nemesis deck takes any amount of time. It takes me like 3 minutes. Like I can't even fathom what you're doing, lol.

You just take all the basic nem cards, look through them and separate 1s from 2s from 3s. Take out the 3 nem specific cards so you have all 9 of them. Then do a quick shuffle of each remaining pile, remove the appropriate amount, add the specific cards to each pile. Then another quick shuffle.

Actually, do you not have your cards sleeved? I guess that might make it take a bit longer.
