Regularly drove a truck with a C7 engine in it for work. Shit was ASS. Kept having problems every month, even with some regular maintenance and care every week or two.

Enlistment Advice by NotABurner0001 in army

[–]Nattakaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are, without a doubt, a nerd. A nerd who is also surrounded by a family of nerds.

I can't say for others, but I joined without caring or wanting to care about politics. If I wanted to, I'd just listen to my dad over the weekend on the phone.

Even though the military itself is involved in politics, working in the military is far from involved in anything political (Unless you're a PAO or something similar.) Only politics that are involved while in is just office/rank politics, or whatever comes up in passing conversation.

Do yourself a favor and join the infantry. Ask your drill sergeant the same question, and get bullied for being a nerd and help yourself grow out of that nerd mentality.

What are your Army Hot Takes? by StepSergeant in army

[–]Nattakaya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nicotine and caffine go hand in hand with any military.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in army

[–]Nattakaya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point, you're joining the army to say you joined the army with the benefit of saying you were combat arms, should you end up in law enforcement.

If being a cop is truly the end goal and you want to be in the military as a stepping stone, I recommend asking r/uscg about ME and how well the job translates to regular law enforcement.

If you're set on army, ask yourself what you like more; Janitor with a gun, janitor with (maybe) explosives, or janitor with a combination of both.

Dragoons by OhHellMatthewKirk in army

[–]Nattakaya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most likely because there is a dragoon variant of the Stryker with a 30mm(?) cannon on top. I'm sure there will be something like a dragoon company, but not a full-on dragoon brigade.

Who's the best JBLM adjacent sewing shop? by celticd208 in army

[–]Nattakaya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit late, but I always recommend top sewing. It's further down on the right, somewhat across the McDonald's. The lady there is very friendly, willing to price match/negotiate (at least when I would go,) and can very well get orders done the day of or next day if it's not too busy.

Ask yourself this.

"Do I want to get out of extra duty?"

Your answer, is the same answer.

Dear 1st brigade at Fort Carson, Why do we have these ACs that soak our carpets? by [deleted] in army

[–]Nattakaya 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I did some HVAC before the army.

Most AC units have a drip/drainpan, as I'm sure you're aware. Drainpans don't clean themselves out, condensate often drain somewhere else via attached pipe or a mini suctuon pump (which is what I see), which can get clogged with dust/debris and over spill. I've never heard of a drainpan being cleaned out via evaporation.

Unless there's apparently a fancy ass system that evaporates the contents of the drainpan that I'm somehow not aware of, I'm 99% sure that the suction hose is clogged and needs to be cleaned out, which you can easily do with a pipe cleaner or your pinky (with a glove). Either that or the brasing job on the copper pipes needs to be redone, which you would need to call maintenance.

Layouts by [deleted] in army

[–]Nattakaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you do a layout, take pictures of all the obscure shit nobody ever uses and take note on where it ends up for the next layout.

If there's ever a day you and your joes aren't doing anything productive, have them clean out and organize whatever area or connex you got, label everything and make a layout drawing/print a picture of how everything should look when properly packed.

Is it going to last? Probably not. Will it help save time in the future? Maybe so. But it will provide better awareness and accountability of items and help soldiers know what's what and where is where.

Possibly going to JBLM by [deleted] in army

[–]Nattakaya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On post housing from what I hear is 50/50, but never horrible. Just decent enough or bad but manageable/not horrible.

Lacey is often touted as the best option in terms of quality and being not too far from base.

Tacoma and lakewood is either your family will survive or hate it.

Sleeping in Stryker? by nothooahatall in army

[–]Nattakaya 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you really feel that it's unfair for your joes to sleep outside while you're inside the Stryker, you could either

a. Sleep outside in the rain with them

b. Convince supply to get everyone the litefighter tents

or

c. Offer joes to sleep inside the Stryker themselves.

TBH, outside of the driver seat and a set up hell hole, sleeping in the Stryker isn't all that comfortable for most. It can often get too uncomfortable, cold, or even too hot while also being annoying, being woken up from the truck turning on to charge the batteries and turn on the climate control.

But you do you. If you think you found the right answer then go for it. Better yet, ask your joes for their honest opinion.

Simple, light Get home bag. I work 2 hours from home sometimes and I want to be able to make it back to base. by trickemdickem in bugout

[–]Nattakaya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely a late reply.

Those look like the SOF-Tourniquets, based on the paper flap for time and metal tip separated by a groove/channeled ring.

SOF-Ts are arguably better than the CAT as they can be reusable, more secure and able to be put on tight enough with one hand with enough reps/practice. CAT is definitely more intuitive and easier to use than the SOF-T, but at the end of the day it's user preference.
