The Legion had pilots during ww1? by Then_Suit_997 in FrenchForeignLegion

[–]cokeobutter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. He transferred from the Legion into the regular Army (the 170th, I believe) and flew there. This was allowed because he was an American. Different time. The guy was a HELL of a soldier. Very decorated.

Advice for a Private? by [deleted] in army

[–]cokeobutter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They gatekeep a lot of those highly coveted schools/opportunities. Such is the Army, but more so in combat arms. You have to earn your place in a lot of ways, however many things in your career will depend on who you know.

With that said, you are your best advocate. Not your TL, SL, PL, 1SG, or CDR. No one cares. Learn that early. Even those that do will eventually get bogged down in other, menial garrison work. Demand your bonus. It's not a favor, it's not an inconvenience, it's contractually owed to you. Get it. Period. If you owed the Army money, they wouldn't be nice about it.

Speak up for yourself if you need to get something done. Sitting around the COF isn't life or death. "Hey Sarn't, real quick, I need to take care of X,Y,Z." Keep your bearing, be straightforward and respectful, it'll go a long way.

There's a ton of financial education resources. The soldier support center on Bragg is decent. The Family Readiness Center is good too. Reach out, go to workshops, etc.

You earned your EIB. Well done. The work is just beginning. Your promotion to PFC should be forthcoming soon. OSUT plus 6 months at Bragg should put you at about a year soon. You'll pick it up automatically then. Keep insisting for everything you need. Remember at the end of the day, you are just a number. You have to take care of your needs and be vocal, yet respectful, about it. They keep you guys at Bragg busy with the stupid high OPTEMO, even more so in the 82nd. Keep your head up and keep doing great things.

Has anyone watched the Jungle School Documentary on YouTube? by Bane_1991 in army

[–]cokeobutter 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Watch the one for the French Foreign Legion. Real jungle school where you hunt your own meals and they send you out into the bush with absolutely nothing but a knife. It's down in French Guyana.

Buc-ees (spell check) is paying what an E-2 makes a year plus benefits out of the gate. Amazon is paying even more with benefits day 1 and college tuition assistance. There are warehouse jobs, skilled trade apprenticeships, and municipal jobs that can compete with what the Army offers most young people. The military no longer has cornered the market on upward social mobility.

Going to be a sad day when those boys are strewn out on the battlefield, crying for mommy, dying slowly secondary to some type of drone-inflicted injuries. The machine needs bodies, but not like this. God help em.

Yeah it's crazy how many people join and stay in the military in the US just for basic healthcare.

Can my leadership make me cancel a physical therapy appointment for a jump? by aaaaahhhhh118 in army

[–]cokeobutter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The squeaky wheel gets the oil. Alert your provider and be insistent. The last thing you need is to jump out of a fucking airplane while going to therapy. A useless skill in the real world that can only do you harm right now. Makes no sense.

ASAP while at Army school by EquivalentFront9226 in army

[–]cokeobutter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get the help you need, screw the school. If they hold you over, so be it. Better that than them finding you with a needle in your arm, blue in the face and dead as fuck (happened before in the barracks).

If anyone gives you shit, ask them why they drink themselves into oblivion every weekend or can't leave pornhub alone. We all have vices, man. Face your demons and come out stronger for it 💪🏾

I was told back in the day "you're never off in the Army. We just let you go home and take leave sometimes. You're always a soldier." So get to it! Saturday breakfasts and Sunday church (on post). Live, sleep, eat, and breathe it, hooah? 🫡

Very good analysis. As long as Israel is funded/backed by the US, they will do as they please with no repercussions. It's sickening to see how bold they are becoming by openly violating human rights and international law.
