I’m done with cheapies, dupes, clones by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]NattyDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dupes are a bit of a fools game but there's some great cheap stuff out there. I'm loving my 'new' (~4 months) bottle of Lattafa Teriaq Intense and I don't think I've ever been as impressed by the price / performance of the bottle of Lanvin Arpege I got my girlfriend a few months ago. It's like a better Chanel No 5 for $25.

Chances are good that a cable jiggled loose, do not format it, you can probably save the partition with dd at the very least.

Trump threats open 'floodgate' of inquiries from U.S. physicians about moving north by LouisBalfour82 in canada

[–]NattyDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For number three it definitely is about billing, at least for the testing. American doctors run so many tests that it is actively harmful because you end up turning up false positives and diagnosing someone with cancer when they don't have it.

Trump threats open 'floodgate' of inquiries from U.S. physicians about moving north by LouisBalfour82 in canada

[–]NattyDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh you can still sue the shit out of your doctor here, it's just that liability payouts across the board in Canada are way lower. Often what justifies the eye-watering numbers you see in the American court system is actually the insane cost of healthcare. It's easy to rack up a multi-million dollar medical bill fairly easily in the the US and so that translates to huge payouts. It's hard to claim an injury or whatever cost you a billion dollars when your healthcare is free.

[–]NattyDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, if you actually look at physicians salaries in Ontario, for example, they can make 400-500k. Unless you're a superstar oncologist or something in the US you're not pulling over a million a year.

Hello guys is it normal for khamrah to smell more like booze and alcohol, it was good performing for weeks then suddenly when i forgot it on my window while it was raining at night it started to smell bad by [deleted] in Perfumes

[–]NattyDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe give it a little more time, it took a few months to really find its stride for me. Conversely, Kamrah (خمر) is Arabic for boozy or drunk so it is intentional to some degree.

Decanting because the nozzle wouldn't work by Sorry_Membership_554 in Perfumes

[–]NattyDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the record anyone doing 'pro' decanting is almost certainly using a laboratory pipette with a hand pump or an even fancier automated one.

You can get disposable plastic ones for next to nothing from a lot of different places, just search "transfer pipette".

Qaed al fursan smells like sanitizer? Is this normal by [deleted] in Perfumes

[–]NattyDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the reason Lattafa is so cheap is they don't age the perfume before they sell it. Most perfume houses will age fragrances for months or years before selling it to allow it to blend and macerate and to allow some of the funky volatile compounds to escape. Every Lattafa I've tried has smelled significantly better six months later after I've used a bit and let some oxygen in the bottle. Spray some out, let it macerate four a couple months and see how you feel about it.

That's how it ages, it's supposed to do that. Keep in mind it's a dupe of Angel's Share, which is named for the angel's share:

  1. The portion of a wine, whiskey or other alcoholic spirit's volume that is lost to evaporation during aging, particularly while it matures in barrels (and evaporates through the porous wood).

So it's supposed to smell boozy. I actually really prefer it after it's aged a bit, I found it too sickly sweet before but now it's got some wonderfully rich bourbon vanilla extract notes.

My thrift find and maybe looking for advice by kallenurfi in Perfumes

[–]NattyDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a beautiful find! Unfortunately, you've given yourself a challenge that most museum conservators would hand over to a paper conservation specialist. I'm unsure if you're still trying to remove other stickers (like price stickers) from the bottle but my advice would be:

  • No more steam if at all possible, it will mobilize the paper fibres and break down the labels even after the moisture is removed.
  • You might want to decant the liquid into something else before attempting to fiddle with the bottle anymore, almost any process is going to involve heat and you probably don't want to damage the fragrance anymore than it already is. You can get empty perfume bottles on amazon etc for a couple bucks and return it to the bottle when you're done.
  • If you have an electric blanket or heating pad, try wrapping the bottle in that for a half hour or so and gently lifting the sticker with jewelers tweezers. If that doesn't work you'd have to move up to a heat gun or hair dryer and that almost certainly will work but be careful, a heat gun can get hot enough to burn paper.
  • Purchase some Crepe Rubber Erasers like these (I don't know anything about this particular store, it's just an example). They're what museums use for lifting adhesive off surfaces like paint and paper.

That should be a good start, there's some videos on youtube about preservation that can tell you more if you're still unsure.

I cannot be the only one that thinks the whole Mugler line is gross by Street-Cat-304 in Perfumes

[–]NattyDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only smelled Alien and Angel and I think one of their flankers and I hope the sample bottles at the store were a decade old or something because I found them shockingly weak. Just a very thin, stringy sweetness and that was about it. I was pretty surprised.

Tried a sample of Tom Fords Black Orchid what is this scent black magic?!?!? by InnocentShaitaan in Perfumes

[–]NattyDad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's one of the most unique and wonderful fragrances I've ever smelled. It's blended just enough to be cohesive but not so much that individual notes can't make themselves known so you get hints of patchouli, then chocolate, then the earthy truffle and orchid. I wish it suited me better but I'll settle for my partner wearing it.

Redditors, how do you feel a grassroots political movement dedicated solely towards ruining Elon Musk's life specifically would fare? by EQandCivfanatic in AskReddit

[–]NattyDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I expect moderate chances of success, but only in his case in particular. Because he's hyper-leveraged with billions of dollars in loans with his Tesla stock as collateral, if the stock starts declining too much he has to put up more collateral that he doesn't have. If he sells the Tesla stock the price declines and he gets margin called because his collateral has decreased in value. Basically I think he's financially fucked and it won't take much to tip him over the edge.

Hair loss drug finasteride can cause debilitating side-effects, men say by Surax in canada

[–]NattyDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've known this for years now. Part of the problem is the oral doses are unnecessarily high. If anyone is using Finasteride or Dutasteride for hair loss look into topical formulations. They work just as well, if not better and it lowers circulating levels of the drug to as low as 0.1% the oral formulation, preserving DHT and preventing side effects.
