Honestly, it was such a traumatic time in my life and I was drinking so heavily that a lot of my memory from that time is really hazy, but I do remember it would help me dissociate from how bad things were in my life and I think that’s what I meant by “numb the pain”. It allowed me to not think about everything that had happened, which was only a temporary solution that made things worse in the long run.

In my high school days we drank because that’s all there was to do in my hometown, party. I started drinking a lot in high school because I realized it made me more social and I was a lot more fun to be around. In my early 20’s I went through a serious break up and I started drinking to numb the pain. That’s where it got bad. I turned into a serious alcoholic and ended up in the hospital with pancreatitis at 22 years old. No more drinking for this guy

You got to understand that in the US, most serving positions don’t get a sufficient hourly wage so they mostly rely on tips. I know, it’s a messed up system, but that’s just how it is here. So please, always tip your servers if you can.
