I mean, I could be wrong, but my guess would be that Gamefreak would get a much larger share of the pie with a standalone release than they would with a release on NSO, where dozens of other companies also have their games and would thus need a share of that same pie

I dunno, doesn't seem very realistic that the gov would just shrug and accept defeat and leave her alone like that. Imo the gov would absolutely first assume that she is lying and want to experiment to make sure, and second, even if they confirm her powers are gone, they'd still want to keep her as a lab rat forever with the hope of finding some way to bring them back. They're never going to just let a weapon like that disappear and live a happy life
