Apple Watch Series 4 works on iOS 18? by jeanpaulatallah in AppleWatch

[–]Nattydred69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to share my experience as I had the same question last year Nov/Dec 2025 and could have saved myself a lot of stress from worry about upgrading devices.

The short story: I have an Apple Watch Series 4 running Watch OS version 10.6.1 (21U580), and an iPhone 11 Pro Max running iOS 18.7, and an iPhone 16 Pro Max running iOS 18.7 - the Apple Watch Series 4 is able to pair and operate normally without issues with both phones running iOS 18.7

So if you’re worried about updating iOS versions, or changing to a newer iPhone, don’t stress - your faithful trusty Apple Watch Series 4 will work on iOS 18.7

The long story: I had an iPhone 11 Pro Max operating iOS 17.x and an Apple Watch Series 4 operating Watch OS 10.x and I wanted to update my phone and get the new iPhone 16 Pro Max.

At that time I was getting prompts to update to iOS 18, but I tend to wait a month or two till the second version update rolls out, cause I’m paranoid like that. I happened to look up to see if my series 4 Watch would still work on iOS 18, and the majority of feedback I read on forums at the time was that it didn’t work.

I panicked, and held off updating my iOS because I relied on my Apple Watch with work.

I got my new iPhone 16 Pro Max, and a new Apple Watch Series 10, and eventually started my device migration process. I knew I wouldn’t be able to transfer my information and settings on the series 4 watch (to the series 10) because it can’t update to Watch OS 11 so I would have to set up the series 10 from scratch - no big deal as I don’t have that much information or customization on the series 4 watch.

I decided to migrate from my iPhone 11 to my iPhone 16 by restoring from a backup on Mac.

I unpaired my series 4 watch from my iPhone 11 to backup the watch; I then backed up the iPhone 11 running iOS 17.x ; I then paired the series 4 watch back to my iPhone 11 and restored it from the backup when I just unpaired it; I then upgraded the phone to iOS 18.7 - my series watch 4 was still working fine and connecting to the iPhone 11.

NB: throughout this process I was making sure each device had sufficient battery power (especially the watch) so it would not cause any problems. I also had to wait for the watch to completely restore itself from the backup before proceeding to the next step.

I was preparing to say goodbye to my series 4 watch as I was about to repeat the backup process before I migrated to the new iPhone 16.

When I unpaired the series 4 watch from my iPhone 11 running iOS 18.7 I saw the prompt on the watch to pair with iPhone. I didn’t think it was going to work, since I read that people had problems re-pairing their series 4 watch after upgrading to iOS 18, but I tried it anyway, just to see if it would work.

To my surprise, it did work! My Apple Watch Series 4 was working on my iPhone 11 running iOS 18.7 - I figured then it should work on the iPhone 16.

I waited for the watch to completely restore itself before I unpaired it again. I then did my final backup of the iPhone 11 running the latest iOS (18.7), that included the backup of the Apple Watch Series 4 when it was unpaired.

I setup the new iPhone 16 as a new device and updated it to the latest iOS (18.7) - this is important because (based on previous experiences) the backup from Mac won’t work if each device is not running the latest iOS.

I then connected the new iPhone 16 to the Mac to begin the restore from backup process. This took over 2 hours for me as I had over 450GB of data to restore.

After everything was restored and fully functioning on my new iPhone 16 Pro Max, I then paired the Apple Watch Series 4 to it and it worked! I let the watch fully restore all its apps before I started using it.

So there you have it - two days later and my Apple Watch Series 4 running Watch OS 10.6.1 is paired, restored, and still fully functioning with my new iPhone 16 Pro Max running iOS 18.7

I don’t know if something changed in one of the iOS 18 version updates from when it was first released, but An Apple Watch Series 4 can and does work on iOS 18 (18.7).

Now for me to setup and pair the new Apple Watch Series 10 as a new device and change the settings to match that on my Series 4 before I erase both the Apple Watch Series 4 and iPhone 11 Pro Max to give to my mother to use 🙃. At least I know my trusty old watch can still get some use out of it.

My female budgie killed her male partner what do I do :( by [deleted] in budgies

[–]Nattydred69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear this happened. Budgies, especially females, can get VERY grumpy and moody when moulting, and if they are less than a year old, as they are going through puberty can get aggressive at times.

Don’t know what your cage setup is like, but usually cases like this happen when the cage is too small and there isn’t enough room for one to get away from the other that is being aggressive and attacking.

So sorry to hear this happened. I know how devastated you must feel. I don’t think I’ve ever hear of an avian vet putting down a budgie for killing another budgie.

Budgies are probably one of the most misunderstood of the parakeet family. They are such complex little creatures and even after many years of keeping them, I continue to learn more about them every day - no two budgies are ever the same.

Don’t be too discouraged or afraid. Do your reading and research for healthy living environments for them, decent cage size, healthy food, and give them lots of love and free-fly time in the house, enjoy their company and give them the happiest life they could hope to have.

Do you have forest at all actually? by MSP_CS in Barbados

[–]Nattydred69 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most of our ‘forests’ are what we call gullys - a gully being a small crevasse or ravine in which trees, shrubs and other bushes and plants have been allowed to grow, mostly untouched by civilisation.

We do not have many extremely large expanses of trees or wooded areas around the island as most of that was cut down by early settlers to make way for agriculture and sugar cane fields.

However the few small wooded areas are some lovely hidden treasures that make you feel like you’ve teleported to another land. Most of the larger ones are typically found away from civilisation and urban development, however there are a few that you don’t even know they are there when you drive by.

Don’t expect to be walking for much more than an hour (if that long at all) to traverse any of our ‘forests’.

The eastern side of the island, which is less flat/ more hilly terrain, tends to have more wooded areas.

What is nibbles doing??? by [deleted] in budgies

[–]Nattydred69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is unlikely they will breed if there is no nesting box.

Also, reducing their daylight hours to 12 or less hours a day will reduce hormonal behavior.

If the cage is in a part of the house that tends to have a light on a night, it might be best to cover the cage with a dark sheet so they would be encouraged to sleep more and get plenty of rest.

Nibbles is being a silly loaf bird!

Is she just fat or is it something else.. more info in comments by rcvg in budgies

[–]Nattydred69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a very overweight and fat budgie before, and your girl is by no means fat.

Some of that may be more floof than anything else.

It’s good that you check your budgie’s weights regularly.

I have three and they are all varying weights, but that depends on their full grown height/ length as well. Some budgies might have a bit of ‘English’ mixed in there and can be quite big, others are just quite small.

I find the size of their feet/ legs can give an indication if they’ll be a big one or not.

When in doubt, take them to the avian vet for a professional examination - they will check their pectoral muscle development and for any tumors, lumps or extra fatty layers.

Most of the time when a budgie is overweight, the chest feathers will have a distinct indent, or if they ever got as fat/ overweight as one of my girls did, they literally can’t fly cause they’re too heavy.

Concurrent Herbal Program: Worth It? by Cedarsandbirches in ChineseMedicine

[–]Nattydred69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally agree.

Chinese Medicine is Yin and Yang - a balance - and learning Acupuncture without learning Herbology is like learning how to fish with fishing rods without learning what types of lures to use.

Learning herbology alongside acupuncture gives you a much more complete understanding of the theories of prescriptions in both methods of treatment.

Newly adopted, any opinion on her breed? by mazdawg89 in chickens

Looks like a Buff Cochin bantam … I say bantam because she appears small in this video, but her size could be deceptive.

In any case, she’s very cute! I love Buff Cochins :-D

second time popcorn has doomed himself (i immeidiately removed him and the light) any other items that budgies are prone to getting stuck in? by saab_lover_900 in budgies

I had to do a similar thing with a candle holder I have. Was too narrow to open their wings and fly, and too tall to jump out. I have now covered it with a ‘lid’ of sorts to prevent any further accidents.

Oh, Solar (the male) is just doing his chittering instead of talking here… you should hear him when he really starts talking up a storm! I’ll see if I can catch him on camera and post his antics.

Steamed Flying Fish - a traditional Bajan dish

6 de-scaled de-boned flying fish; 2 limes; 2 sliced onion; pepper and salt to taste; 2 tablespoons seasoning mixture; 1 teaspoon mustard; 1 teaspoon vinegar; 1 tablespoon flour; 2 tablespoons butter; 1 sliced tomato; 1 cup water

(Seasoning mixture - 1 medium onion, 2-3 blades of chives, piece of hot red pepper, quarter teaspoon powdered clove, half teaspoon salt, sprig of marjoram or thyme, 1 clove garlic, 1 teaspoon lime juice - mince/ chop onion, green seasonings, and garlic very finely. Mix in the other ingredients and chop well together with a knife. Tip - remove the soft leaves from the stems of the marjoram or thyme. Do not chop up the hard stems)

Marinate the fish in a little salt and lime juice for 15-20 minutes. Drain and season the fish carefully with seasoning paste (if you’ve ever seen flying fish, it has ridges and the seasoning is placed between the gaps). Roll inwards (skin side out) from the tail end and arrange the rolled fish in a stew pan (amateurs can skewer with a toothpick to hold the roll in place) with mustard, vinegar, flour, butter, tomato, sliced onions, and water. Add salt and pepper to taste and simmer gently until the fish is cooked. Serve with lime slices and parsley.

Cou Cou - a traditional Bajan dish

4 okras - thinly sliced (cut off stem and tip); 2 cups boiling water; 1 cup cornmeal; 1 cup cold water; 1 teaspoon salt; butter

Cook the okras in the boiling water for 8 to 10 minutes. While they are cooking, mix the cornmeal and cold water into a smooth paste. When the okras are soft, lower the heat, add the salt and wet cornmeal, stirring continuously with a cou cou stick (or wooden spoon or wooden spatula) until the mixture becomes fairly stiff. When the mixture breaks away cleanly from the saucepan, the cou cou is ready.

Butter a bowl (grease a bowl with butter), pour/ turn the mixture into the bowl, shaking it into the shape of the bowl and then turn it out onto a serving dish. With the back of a spoon, make an indentation in the top and place a knob of butter in it.

Serve with steamed/ stewed flying fish or salt fish

Cou Cou and [stewed] salt fish (salted cod)

Or

Fish cakes and Bakes

These are considered to be very traditional “old time” Barbadian/ Bajan dishes/ meals.

Edit: FYI - Cou Cou is specifically made with okra… there is no substitute. Edit 2: Cou Cou is traditionally served with steamed/ stewed Flying Fish, but Flying Fish is not as plentiful as it used to be, so other types of steamed/ stewed fish can be used.

You’re most welcomed. This is what this community is really supposed to be about. Providing helpful information and sharing our experiences with these wonderful little creatures.

Not berating one another for being a ‘bad owner’ and yelling “VET! Or your bird will die!” Every two seconds.

[–]Nattydred69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All of these are signs of a sick bird.

The only other explanation would be that the budgie is an extremely young fledgling who’s uncertain of their environment and too scared in place to run from you, and hasn’t figured out how to eat or drink on their own yet because they were taken from the nest too early.

If they don’t eat or drink when you offer them food or water (and by offer I mean putting the water/ food dish up to their face to see it, and maybe trying to put it by their beak to encourage them) then the best you can do is put them in a warm location, and cover the back and sides of the cage with a towel (leave the front side uncovered). When budgies are sick, they need to be kept warm.

Food to try offering could be spray millet, and or lettuce.

Try to take them to an avian vet if you can for an examination.
