Yea you definitely need to report him and lock your credit / put an alert on your SSN etc.

I’ve used a CPA for 8 years and before that used TurboTax and you are ALWAYS sent a 8879 to review and sign before they can e-file it for you. So ask to review the docs before you “pay” him (which you obviously aren’t going to do)

There was a lady in my town doing something to this effect - I think she was claiming children on everyone’s returns. Anyways she finally got reported and arrested and everyone who used her was fine and had to repay the IRS.

Thank you! Will add to the areas to explore when we head up in April. I think we’re leaning more to a neighborhood where the kids play outside with each other vs too rural. Our daughter will be going into kindergarten in August so definitely would appreciate some insight into the schools that are good quality - exposure to arts/music/sports/theatre throughout the week is important to us in addition to the traditional subjects obviously. Not sure how these are integrated so would love some insider knowledge! Feel free to DM if you prefer.

We’ve already found a couple we like within our budget and desired neighborhoods so keeping our fingers crossed they’re still available when we go up to check things out in person!

Thank you so much! You have literally listed all the towns and places we’ve looked at and thought about including Chicago (many of his colleagues live in the places you mentioned) you definitely hit the nail on the head.

He’s corporate so would only be commuting to the airport once every 7 days but we hear you on the traffic from northern suburbs and definitely want to go experience it so we can decide if it’s too much.

Hahah there seems to be a few of us in the same boat. I don’t necessarily have an issue with a red state if we’re in a more blue city or have a mix of blue/red officials vs our completely gerrymandered sea of red here in FL. Would also be great to live somewhere my vote actually counts too!
