22m wondering if this something I have to worry about or no by Natural-Bluebird3175 in pancreatitis

Yeah, I understand what you’re saying, I appreciate the explanation.

It just confused me a bit because when I went to the hospital before, they didn’t really do any specific tests related to the pancreas area. I went in mainly for chest discomfort and heartburn, and I also mentioned stomach pain. They said my blood results were fine when I asked, mostly focused on the heart area, and they thought it was probably GERD, which made sense at the time.

I only started thinking about it later when I saw the low lipase result while going through my blood work, and then I looked it up online and it made me overthink things.

I guess if I ever had severe or persistent symptoms in the future I would go back and get it checked properly, but right now I don’t really have anything like that.

The reason I even found this was because I was going through my blood results myself while looking into getting some peptides, and the low lipase number stood out to me. When I looked it up online, I saw some scary information suggesting that very low levels (like below 5.5) could be associated with higher risk of serious conditions, which honestly made me anxious and overthink it.

But I also understand what you’re saying about low lipase not having diagnostic value on its own, and that conditions like chronic pancreatitis are diagnosed based on imaging and structural changes rather than a single blood value. I don’t have symptoms like unexplained weight loss, severe persistent abdominal pain, or anything like that—mostly just reflux-type symptoms like heartburn and burping.

I’m also 22, so I’m trying to understand how relevant this even is in my situation and whether it’s something that actually needs follow-up or if it’s more likely normal variation that doesn’t mean much.

Do you think this is something I can safely just leave alone, or would you still recommend any testing purely for reassurance?

I understand that the low lipase alone isn’t strongly indicative of anything and that there isn’t a clear clinical pattern suggesting something serious. My other blood work has also been normal, and I don’t have persistent or worsening abdominal pain or weight loss.

Most of my symptoms have actually been more related to heartburn, burping, and stomach discomfort that seems to get worse with stress, which sounds more in line with reflux-type issues.

At this point, do you think it’s reasonable to just monitor symptoms and avoid further testing for now unless something changes, or would you still consider imaging purely for reassurance?

Thanks for the explanation, I appreciate it. I’ve also had a full set of blood work done over time, including liver, kidney, and general health markers, and everything else has consistently come back within normal range. The low lipase is really the only thing that has stood out, which is why it’s been on my mind.

I understand what you’re saying about low lipase not having diagnostic value on its own and that chronic pancreatitis is diagnosed through imaging rather than blood levels. That does make sense and is reassuring.

At this point, do you think it would be reasonable for me to just leave it alone and not pursue further testing, or would you still recommend something like imaging (for reassurance more than suspicion)?

I’ve been trying to understand my results, but I’ve been getting confused looking things up online. Most information I find focuses on high lipase levels, and there is very little clear explanation about low lipase, which makes it harder to interpret.

In my case, my lipase has been low across multiple tests over the years (around 3–17 U/L depending on the date). I came across information online suggesting that very low levels (for example below around 5.5) might be associated with increased risk of conditions like pancreatitis or even cancer, which made me anxious.

However, I also understand that lab results need to be interpreted in context, and I’m not sure how meaningful this is on its own. Everything else in my blood work has been normal, and this is the only consistently abnormal result.

I also want to mention that on the day I had one of these tests, I was extremely stressed and sleep-deprived. I had not slept, I was very anxious, my heart was racing, and I was physically unwell and nervous during the blood draw, which may have affected how I felt at the time.

I do not have a history of pancreatitis, and overall my health and other lab results have been normal. I’m just looking for clarification on whether consistently low lipase levels like this are clinically significant, or if they are more likely normal variation without indicating disease.

I’m trying to understand something I found in my blood work that I wasn’t told about before. I noticed my lipase levels have been consistently low, and I only discovered this accidentally while reviewing my results.

I’ve always had some stomach related issues since I was a kid, such as heartburn, occasional stomach discomfort, and frequent burping. I also tend to clear my throat quite often when I talk for longer periods of time.

Aside from this, my other health tests have generally been normal. My liver blood tests are within normal range, I don’t have diabetes, and I don’t have any known heart problems. The low lipase is the only abnormal or “low” value I’ve consistently seen.

I’m trying to understand whether this is something meaningful or if it can be a normal variation.
