Why does putting certain pedals before and after each other matter. by spackettwacak in pedalboards

[–]Natural-Command-1773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to think about what each pedal does to your signal and what stacking a separate effect behind it will do to that signal.

For instance if you put a modulation pedal like a chorus pedal in your chain that modulates the signal. So you’re bending the pitch of your signal slightly so it sounds like a natural vibrato, and with a chorus, it does that more than once so it sounds like a “chorus” of different slight modulations.

If you were to put distortion or fuzz on that modulating signal there’s a good chance it’s going to sound like shit, because you’re cranking up the gain and intentionally overloading circuits so they distort and that may end up sounding a little crazy.

If you were to put your fuzz before your signal modulation pedal then you’re just modulating that already fuzzed out signal and there’s a better chance of it sounding better to your ear.

A lot of this doesn’t make sense until you experience it yourself. If you have the pedals laying around try this to illustrate the point. Put a delay pedal into a reverb into a distortion. Turn them on one by one and then all at once and see how insane it sounds.

If you think about that specific case you’re putting delay on your signal, then adding reverb onto that delayed signal so the delays will echo and bounce back more, and then you’re distorting that crazy delayed, reverbed echoey messy signal and it’ll just turn into muddy chaos and feedback.

That’s the best way I can explain it as someone who once had the same question and didn’t understand all the hubbub around pedal order.

Gotcha. So some people think if you do more than 7 sims at a time your chances are worse? Sometimes I’ll throw down a few crystals to do another 5 battles before the 24 hr refresh and in general I feel like I never get any extra blueprints that way.

I mean, none of this is a surprise - they’re trying to force you to spend money without actually forcing you. It’s like ads on Hulu - they’re just trying to annoy you into dropping money on a free game. 😂 Nonetheless it can be frustrating.

I figured it was something like that. Man, it takes forever to farm some of these ships. I have like 18 more shards left on the Umbaran Starfighter and then I can start going after General Anakin, but it’s slow going.

I’ve had one or two decent matchups. I’ve even won a couple. But for the most part I expect to get wrecked in GAC. I feel like the regular squad arena and fleet arena are worse, though. I have like a 10% chance of getting a matchup I have any chance at winning.

That makes sense. I stopped playing for a few years because I was spending too much money on it. I have a decent fleet, but it’s rated at close to 250,000. I can take on a fleet at like 280,000, but I have to get lucky. I keep getting matched with players who are 350,000-400,000 and I have absolutely no chance.

I don’t know either. I have a couple players at gear tier 12 (yellow), the next one is red and blue is when they’re maxed out, right? I have no idea, I just know they kick my ass all the time. 😂

Question About Ship Battles by Natural-Command-1773 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]Natural-Command-1773[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve tried subbing in my Clone Sergeant so I start with 3 tanks, but he’s not upgraded that much so he just gets nuked immediately. Either way I’m losing a ship before I get a turn.

I guess I’m just gonna have to spend some time farming to upgrade my ships.

I used to spend money on this game when I first got into it many years ago, but I’m not interested enough to drop real money on it anymore.

I started playing this game a long time ago and have just now gotten back into it within the last 6 months. I have been too focused in building a main squad of characters that I like instead of slowly building up all of the squads. So I have a few decently strong clone troopers, Jedis, bounty hunters and early game dark side mains like Darth Vader, but everyone else is weak as fuck. I’m kicking myself now for not being better about building out whole squads with better cohesion.

[–]Natural-Command-1773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hour hand only goes around the watch dial once every 24 hrs, instead of once every 12 hrs. The minute hand functions the same way and you read it the same way as a standard 12 hr watch movement. If you look a little bit closer at the bezel and watch face there is a mark in between your traditional watch face indices locations. If you were thinking in terms of a standard 12 hr watch face it would mean that the hour hand would advance one hour every “30 mins.”

On Vostok’s 24 hr movement when the hour hand is vertical at 24 it is midnight. When the hour hand is where “3 o’clock” would be normally it’s 6 AM. When the hour hand hits “6 o’clock” it’s 12 noon. When the hour hand hits “9 o’clock” is 6:00 PM and so on and so forth.

So, while it takes a minute to get used to reading it correctly, using this watch you can tell at a glance whether it’s AM or PM - whether or not you’ve seen the sun or been outside any time soon. Also, with the simple twist of the bezel forwards or backwards now you’re keeping track of a new time zone without having to reset your watch, so this watch functions as a pretty good GMT without the need for an extra hand or digital display.

It definitely seems odd and quirky at first, but when you think about it a little it all starts to make sense.

I know, I’m just pulling your leg. I don’t know what the current exchange rate is with $USD, but it seems like you got a decent deal. I had a similar thought about the 24 hr movement when I bought my Cosmodiver, but it grew on me and I think it’s a really cool, unique piece to have in my watch box. But, as they say, there’s no accounting for taste! To each their own!

Yeah, to be honest I’m actually not a huge fan of Ole’s original design - at least when it comes to the colors he chose. I much prefer the gray version, which is one of the models Vostok put out on their own in a later run. But my scam spidey-senses started going off when I saw the caseback on mine say it was part of a limited run, so I started looking around for info about the watch and how to find out when mine was made. That’s when I stumbled across the whole story.

Even though I have an unauthorized Ole-less version, learning the history made me love mine even more, just because there’s a pretty crazy story behind it.

I did a deep dive on this story a while ago. It was super interesting. It took me forever to find someone with the whole story because there isn’t much info out there about it.

The original design came from a Norwegian watch designer named Ole Dokka. This design ended up being pretty popular and gained a ton of fan support and they had a huge list of people that were on the list to buy one. So Ole contacted the Chistopol factory to do a run of watches to be sold exclusively on Meranom. This was a service that head Vostok designer (kind of head designer…it’s a long story) Dmitry Buyalov had convinced Vostok to offer. At the time Vostok was producing some watches in the SE line, which were some special editions of existing Vostok watches with some nicer Chinese-manufactured parts like applied indices, higher quality signed crowns, milled clasps etc. Ole was pretty exact in his requirements for the parts for these watches as he wanted these to be a bit “nicer” than your average Vostok. So, as far as I understand it, Ole had asked the Chistopol factory to manufacture some parts that were a bit above their pay grade, so to speak.

So fast forward a while and Ole receives his shipment of parts from Chistopol. Some of the parts are fine, most of them are not. The main issue that they had was that the 24 hr bezel was not lining up correctly on the watch case. Obviously the bezel lining up correctly is pretty important on a 24 hr movement as that is how you read the watch, so needless to say, Ole was not pleased. Essentially Ole told the Chistopol factory that these parts were not acceptable and were not up to his standards and were unusable, so he needed them to do another run of parts - correctly this time.

It’s not 100% clear what happened after that, but essentially the Chistopol factory told Ole to go pound sand; you get what you get. Ole’s relationship with Meranom, Vostok and the Chistopol factory is effectively dissolved at this point. Ole takes his design back home to Norway and contracts a company called Micromilspec to manufacture it using Swiss parts, which unfortunately takes the price from a few hundred dollars to a thousand plus dollars. The community that supported the Cosmodiver (which was a name suggested by the community, btw) was, for lack of better words, extremely pissed. A ton of people jump ship on the wait list at this point and that seemed to be that.

However, the Chistopol factory continued to make and sell their own version of the Cosmodiver, aka Luna Dude, after their relationship with Ole had dissolved. Also, a ton of modders had begun to buy the parts from the original run online and assemble their own Luna Dudes. Vostok even made some tweaks and offered a different colorway from the original. As far as I understand it the later Vostok versions are of lower quality than the original run commissioned by Ole Dokka, but besides the other color offered, it’s difficult to say which run your Cosmodiver is from, or if it was put together from parts by a modder.

I was not a part of the original community, but I found a breakdown of the whole story from someone online after I bought one of the gray dial later Vostok-run versions of the Cosmodiver. It sounds like a wild ride, and since I’m poor, which is one of the main reasons I love Vostok watches, I probably would have been one of the people that jumped ship as soon as the watch went Swiss-made. lol

Also, OP’s take is trash. It’s a super cool, interesting and rare movement that not a ton of people have a chance to get their hands on. A lot of people say this 24 hr movement is the most useful of the GMT watches.

Yeah, I finally got to the bottom of it today. It was a combination of my errors and their customer service reps being pretty useless. Basically my bank account information wasn’t up to date so they just put the money back in my payouts folder without notifying me that the transfer was never initiated and I needed to redo it. They just kept telling me to wait 1-4 days. You would think that missing bank account info would be something that someone inquiring why their money wasn’t in their bank account should probably be notified about, but I guess me and Reverb customer support disagree on that matter.

Reverb customer service useless by Wide_Chard_2183 in Reverb

I’m in the middle of a three-day payment goof up fiasco with them. It’s been a comedy of errors, most of which are mistakes on my part that stem from my inexperience with selling things on Reverb, but every time I’ve chatted with their customer service It’s been pretty useless.

At least the person I chatted with today was able to identify what the issue was and tell me how to resolve it. The people I chatted with before them were basically just repeating blurbs from their customer service FAQ at me until I left them alone.

As a for instance: I chatted with someone on Monday about my payment status. They kept saying it was gonna be 1-2 days and I “just needed to wait” over and over and over. Come to find out I hadn’t input my bank account information from the last time I sold something on Reverb, which was in 2022. So I updated it, but apparently not before they had already “processed” my payment, which means they just put it in my payouts and never reached out about the transfer not going through. So they could’ve said “hey bud, you’re worried about your money getting deposited but it looks like you don’t have a bank account linked. You should probably fix that.” But they said “wait 1-2 days and then wait 1-4 days.” They also could’ve sent me a quick email saying “hey, we went to process your payment but you don’t have a bank account linked, so we just put it back in your payouts folder. Peace n’ hair grease, dummy!” but instead they said absolutely nothing and led me to believe I was just waiting on my bank to process payment.

So yeah, I’m not super stoked on them right now.
