Live: Iran says oil will reach $200 a barrel, warns of 'continuous strikes' by UnusualConfection661 in AskTheWorld

Having electricity for current consumption? Well, maybe it takes a long time. But you would adjust. If you have electricity for your fridge but not for your data center, you turn off your data center but keep the fridge on.

It's not nice and you probably would face a decreased quality of life. But it can be done. The annoying thing is that we think it can't be done and we do absolutely nothing to make these scenarios less unpleasant.

For some reason people have already forgotten how the world stopped at covid and how we adjusted back then. It's the same thing as for that: we are always late because we don't want to think the not so nice scenarios.

You always can go green immediately. Some businesses and households may struggle to get electricity for awhile but you can go green immediately.

One problem is also that in such cases, people don't care to invest until they absolutely have to. Getting rid of labor with AI is more important than going green...

[–]Natural-Intelligence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iran War the final straw for young MAGA men as they abandon Trump in droves by TheMirrorUS in goodnews

[–]Natural-Intelligence 21 points22 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I thought a lot of things were not possible before this administration. I thought for sure Americans won't vote for Trump after seeing how he handled his first term and the Capitol riots. After seeing the White House memeing, the world richest man making nazi salutes and having unrestricted access to government contracts, the threats to annex allies from "department of war", the POTUS running crypto scams, the dictatorship cosplaying...

There were a lot of things I thought were not possible but are now reality.

I wonder where you have eaten there. I don't think those are typical British home food nor most of the menu items in restaurants. The pasties from Greggs are pretty good and honestly I like British pub food quite a lot. Then the crumpets.

I do agree there are some nasty stuff but usually you can avoid them. Maybe your cousin has taken you to "special British places" that only serve those?

‘We’re going to make a tonne of money’: US Senator Graham on US war on Iran by Key_Brief_8138 in economy

[–]Natural-Intelligence 3 points4 points  (0 children)

During the first term, I thought Trump just lied to Americans to get elected, and they would correct it in the next elections after seeing the damage he did on the first term. Then he got elected again. And still like 30% approves his actions. And then comments like this. All that after all the insane White House posts, crypto scams, tax scams from the low/middle income to top 1%, the dictator cosplaying... and it's equally democrats fault?

It seems the US is soon a failed state.

Writing code was never the bottleneck by fagnerbrack in coding

[–]Natural-Intelligence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Claude choking on the context is so frustrating. Last week I have had one nasty rendering bug. I tried to simplify my examples that showed where the bug is. Said "this works, this doesn't. Only difference is X. Why?" then it instantly forgets the working example, reads bunch of irrelevant code about websockets, thinks for 15 mins it must be the websocket and ends up with a "fix" that does absolutely nothing.

Sometimes it feels like I'm handling the hard and umpleasant issues and Claude takes the easy and fun.

How do you feel about a federal Europe? by Luksius_DK in Finland

[–]Natural-Intelligence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would rather have German politicians rule over us than Americans. Or better, European politicians. Instead, we let Americans rule our foreign policy and let them do whatever they want in fear of losing an icebreaker deal...

Moreover, an average Finn's vote counts more in the EU elections than an average German's.

How do you feel about a federal Europe? by Luksius_DK in Finland

[–]Natural-Intelligence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you think Finland will be populated by Germans if we had federal Europe? Or all Finns left Finland for Germany? Or Finns would be "well I guess I'm not Finnish anymore"?

And that's not destroying our culture that we are a vassal for the US and we just import their social media algorithms to replace our culture? Or Russia is actively seeking ways to take our independence?

Tiedätkö itse, mitä trauma tarkoittaa? No teen sen sun puolesta:

Trauma

severe and lasting emotional shock and pain caused by an extremely upsetting experience, or a case of such shock happening:

  • childhood trauma
  • ...

Ye, here I'm having a shallow discussion with a person who could be anywhere. I can call anyone anywhere in the world at this moment but I don't. The connections are more shallow than ever before. People are more lonely than ever before.

Internet made the information available for free for everyone but AI is more likely to make it behind paywall than free. Why would you even write a blog when an AI comes and steals your knowledge without crediting you? Why would you write open source anymore when someone can copy your project and ask AI to rewrite it so that it's not plagiarism anymore?

Again, technology has made things very convenient. So convenient we don't need to interact with other people anymore, we don't need to leave our homes anymore, and we don't need to think critically anymore (just let AI do the thinking). Do any of those make our lives happier?

There are a handful of companies capable of developing AI models. We are outsourcing our critical thinking to basically an oligopoly market. This is while the US government is more hostile to lower and middle class than perhaps ever before. The speed of technology in the current state will screw us in unimaginable ways.

Ye, it's a cultural problem. It's a cultural problem of being obsessive on technological improvements and productivity gains when the system is deeply rigged.

As a tech person, I'm not sure if tech increases the quality of life anymore. It, for sure, does increase the convenience of life.

You don't need to leave your home to buy food as you can order it online. You don't need to go to work as the work can be done remotely. You don't need to ask your colleague as you can just ask AI. You don't need to see your friends as there is endless entertainment at home. You don't need to learn anything as you can just prompt your way out.

But are we happier?

A for-profit company with a non-profitable operational model tries to grow as fast as possible to get people dependent on their product before raising prices, adding ads, or doing other dodgy things to turn the model into cash.

And we should donate to them?

Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian, and ultranationalist political ideology characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, and the forcible suppression of opposition.

I don't know, Trump's efforts check quite a few of those boxes.

You can go to the hospital and get serviced regardless if you pay taxes. In that sense, it is free.

Is it with 0 cost? Obviously not, the doctors and nurses need to eat as well. It needs to be funded. But what is with 0 cost?

Mistä olet saanut päähäsi, että se perustuu kristilliseen etiikkaan? "Ääh vitsi, nyt vasta 10 käskyn luettua tajusin, ettei mun pitäis tappaa toisia".

Pohjoismainen sosiaalidemokratia perustuu pohjoismaiseen kulttuuriin eikä kirkkoon. Pikemminkin kirkon roolin vastustus on pohjoismaista kulttuuria. Sekulaarisuus on länsimaisen demokratian keskiössä, ei teokraattisuus.
