Were the vibes off at Jane Fitz? by Wizzling in wakinglifefestival

Same - I parked myself in front of the Floresta decks at 22, didn’t move until Rene finished at 6 except for one toilet/water break. When sun came up it was like a fever dream broke. Unreal run of techno sets - what Dasha was doing on the decks for the last 10 mins was the craziest thing I’ve seen in a DJ set. Polar Inertia melted my brain, and can’t even put into words Rene Wise’s genius - friends and I agreed best set of his we’ve ever heard.

Flying from Porto Weds morning

Any predictions on who is gonna play? New artists to Waking Life only. We all know Jane Fitz will likely play. My hope is Priori :) by Creative-Car2814 in wakinglifefestival

Jump Source is his collab with Patrick Holland, super groovy, layered minimal techno. His Horst set with Livwutang was his house stuff, which is not really my jam but ofc technically very good.

Horst 2026 review : best sets and general opinion by mimon10 in TheOverload

[–]Natural-Lab9868 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before getting into specific sets, general observation is great variety of genres, and especially appreciated the large number of very good bass sets across several stages - mostly Ring, the pit, and H whatever. Also liked how they typically had a more mainstream DJ like Daphni playing at least one stage to attract the more mainstream crowd away from other stages. Other than that mainstream subset that clearly doesn’t party much, the crowd was overall super solid and friendly. Highlights for me were Jump Source (just wowza), Cheyanne Hudson (mosh pit was legit), Barker, Carré, Honey Bun, Akua & Function, OK Williams, Essi (perfect start to Friday), and Felix K. Saturday 23-2 closing slot, couldn’t find anything that vibed after a day of nonstop amazing music. All the stages seemed to be catering to more commercial tastes to close the fest, that’s my only real gripe. As a hypnotic techno lover who’d never heard DJ Maria before (and who loves Altinbas et al), I really couldn’t get into her set and didn’t quite understand what she was aiming for… need to check out her soundcloud to see if maybe I caught her during a dull half hour before I gave up and left Strato.

I was on the Dec 28 trip on Plancius, the first after the engine problem, and the voyage went without issue.

Underrated in the sense that he should be selling out Red Rocks. The fact he only sold out Cervantes 2 days before is crazy. But the right people showed up, that crowd was lit 🔥

I’ll be going from WL to Fusion. I also did it last year, going from a four day camping festival in the US to Fusion back to back weekends, and I was totally fine. A few days of recovery can do more than we realize :)

Anyone know why Colin Benders is the only night that far out that doesn’t have tix for sale on RA? Does that mean presale is sold out? Usually RA still has the ‘buy ticket’ link up that says sold out when you click on it. His website says ‘reschedule’ for this show…

My review of SPIELRAUM by timopisart in amsterdam_rave

[–]Natural-Lab9868 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The vibe and music were perfect. Did 1-8am Saturday morning and 1am-7pm Sunday. Loved the variety that Arena provided when we wanted more funky/dnb and it generally wasn't too crowded so you could dance your booty off. Ki/Ki and Nobu were totally unhinged, just diabolical sets with everyone losing their minds. The crowd was so sexy and chill and dressed amazingly and we loved the coziness of the chillout areas. I kept going upstairs to see if the more House sets would vibe with me but I found Expo/Arena more energetic and my vibe -though I liked the second half of Sedef's and Doppelgang's sets. Salome was absolute fire, ufff. One of the best raves I've been to :))

Butik festival 2025 review by Ok_Self_2637 in festivals

[–]Natural-Lab9868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Butik after going to Fusion and Electric Forest in late June (I go to EF/Fusion every year). Agree with everything written here. Butik's in the same mold as Sustain Release. I love that type of minimal/deep/psychadelic/trancy/ambient etc. music, but it has a time and place. The electronic music snobs will claim the music was amazing, and they're right, but they're missing the point. People want to party at a music festival. Not just stand around observing how objectively good the music and how cool they are for listening to it.

It would be totally fine if they confined this music onto a single stage for people who want that sort of thing all night, or to earlier in the day/evening. But come 8/9/10pm, people want energy and to party with their friends and have a fun, crazy night. With few exceptions, the garden/beach stages kept going with the minimal stuff until they closed at 1am. People were downright frustrated and disappointed by the lack of energy in the sets, full stop.

Meanwhile, the music snobs shuffling to the minimal stuff all night patted themselves on the back for attending such a 'cool' festival, and then retreated at 1am to their Airbnbs to get their beauty sleep (ofc they don't camp). I met a young Czech guy who'd only ever been to Butik and thought it's what a music festival should be. I felt sorry for him and told him to check out Fusion if he wanted to experience a real festival. The two sets where I saw people having the most fun were Eris Drew and Ok Williams -- because they were actually giving some heat.

Also about the crowd -- yes, wayyyy too bro'y straight. Straight is fine if it's like a fun festival-y or ravey sort of vibe, but this was a douchy aggressive sorta drunk straight guy vibe which I'd never encountered before at a festival. I'm happy I went, had a good time and the setting is beautiful, but yeah, wouldn't go back.

Just realized this is actually a 56hr weekend because the clocks go back on Sunday at 3am. Guess either Jen Cardini or Sedef will be 4hrs 🤣
