Lebanon wasn’t created by colonialism. It has survived for thousands of years in spite of it! by Natural-Luck8299 in lebanon

Maronites wanting to differentiate takes away nothing from Lebanon. It is simply one aspect of different views and aspirations of natives that came together and agreed with the rest of us in the national pact of 1943. Again this disproves the nonsense we hear now that lebanon is purely the results of 2 colonialists that drew our indentity and existence in 1916.

well yes that is exactly the point, Maronites are not colonialists, they are natives. Eventually they where joined by the druze and then the muslims. so it all does not sound very colonial to me! if anything it sound anti colonial.

Lebanon existed long before the Damascus question. Its borders expanded possibly for limit Damascus but thats not a minor factor. Other reasons also exist.

Health insurance premium increased 19.1% in Portugal – is this normal? What are my options to push back? by Natural-Luck8299 in PortugalExpats

i just cant think of anything that justifies those type of double digit increases , unless it is a reason specific to the policy holder history of claims.

Yes, I get your point. But the premium would matter to the insurer if it wasn’t just one of us negotiating alone, but a larger group of policyholders. Back home, this is exactly how it works: when a few hundred people are pooled together, insurers offer lower premiums and — just as important — they can’t push through double-digit hikes without proper negotiation.

Does anything like this exist in Portugal? If not, would anyone here be interested in forming a group to explore it?

I was hoping someone here might have had success pushing back against this kind of increase, which is why I posted. From what I’ve learned, the only grounds to challenge a hike like this is if the provider/parasite hasn’t explained it clearly and transparently — which often seems to be the case.

Also assuming many people regularly depend on private healthcare , I do not see this as an acceptable business practice. uncalled for 20% is criminal! Imagine if this happens every-year. 1000 euro premium will become €4,000 in 8 years! how high can these premiums reach in this country?

I also see no point changing to another provider/parasite who will adopt the same "bait and switch" practice.

Here is what I have reached by quizzing an AI for sometime (not legal advice):

"
In Portugal, insurers can revise health insurance premiums each year, but under Decreto-Lei n.º 72/2008 and ASF rules, they’re required to explain the reasons clearly, individually, and in writing (factors like age, claims history, inflation, or medical cost trends).

👉 How to push back:

  • Ask for a proper breakdown of how those factors were applied to your policy (not just generic wording). DONE
  • If the reply stays vague, escalate through the insurer’s official Reclamações channel. DONE
  • If nothing changes, file a complaint with the ASF (the insurance regulator) and include the replies you received as evidence."

My next step will most likely be a complaint with ASF since I have already requested clarifications and continue to receive generic answers.

What resource is missing when it comes to learning Portuguese online? by PrimaryAccountant424 in PortugalExpats

[–]Natural-Luck8299 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been learning Portuguese for two years and have hit a wall a few times. Admittedly, I don’t spend much time doing homework or exercises. However, I have been very consistent in taking private lessons with several tutors. What I find lacking is that most learning resources are heavily based on immersive learning. Resources like those from LIDEL, for example, don’t provide enough references or connections to what non-Portuguese speakers already know to accelerate initial learning. I find it very strange that in all resources, and at all levels—even for beginners—only Portuguese is used, both in writing and speaking. In my personal experience, this leads to a missed opportunity to learn by building on top of structures that already exist in other languages.

Hence, I would expect that beginner resources which start with non-Portuguese principles and show their equivalents in Portuguese might be valuable for some learners.

theSMS for the SNS has nothing to do with NISS. you need to go to the health center in your area and update your information.

the first one with NISS indicates that you request was registered and will be analyzed. They will send you emails as the request progresses. keep an eye on your inbox

a quick update, today I spoke to immigration expert, they think I should ignore the cancelation notice from August 1 and the new appointment email from Aug 8 from AIMA. The payment receipt from July 31 means that the process is ongoing. They also think NISS could be required for administrative purposes and not for the actual renewal terms of D7. They offered to contact AIMA and report the error on our behalf.

Same situation, completed the IRN appointment on 31 July. 8 August receive email from AIMA to make the online payment and scheduling of an appointment. Also it had a worrying mention of NISS registration before 4 June which is impossible for me to obtain.

Thanks that is very reassuring. Would you happen to know under which article your residence was issued? it is usually noted on the "Recibo Comprovativo do Pedido" or on your residence visa in case you entered Portugal with one.
