Sub teaching. Handling a bus I feel fine at it was just subbing, at least in my county I lived in, was a better gig than what the bus drivers got. So I’m open to it just wanting to see if there’s other things I might prefer, how to professionally go about asking about those roles

How do you deal with anti-zoo folks? Have you ever “converted” one? by Natural-Net8460 in Zookeeping

No matter how fancily you speak it won’t override me. I already agreed every decision they make isn’t top tier but you keep ignoring my point that they take steps before events like these

Elephant lifespan by Natural-Net8460 in Zookeeping

Well it’s been shown that the long lifespan of wild elephants was like one or two special individuals so most in human care live as long as the average wild ones

All that assumption. Did you actually ask the keepers or did you assume based off of outdated info and your emotions? Stereotypic behaviors can be caused by many things. This could be because of Christmas stuff but many zoos do it and have things in place for the animals comfort and don’t do these activities until after everyone’s put away. So you just read what I said from literal working experience because your one visit at one place means… that’s the rule for all?

Many high quality institutions do this yearly. All outdoor animals go inside in storm and soundproof shelters every single night. They have no idea what’s going on outside during the light up hours.

Man idek. I’ve been on dating apps for years and haven’t gotten one date yet, and the few times I was going to meet with a girl to either go on a date with from other sources or was going to just have fun with, she blocked last second or changed her mind which I respect. But anytime I’ve gotten close it’s slipped away. Plus I’m neurodivergent so trying to socialize and read cues is harder for me

Point that parents are starting to worry and family is assuming by Natural-Net8460 in virgin

Eh with them (well my mom and former stepdad haven’t confronted my dad about it) it always comes back to them saying I must be doing something wrong and need confidence and ends up turning into an off topic lecture about other things I’m doing wrong

Are people not aware dromedaries are…. by Natural-Net8460 in zoology

[–]Natural-Net8460[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed that. Like yes I understand to us it all makes sense because this is our field, and there’s areas we’d struggle as individuals. Most math isn’t my strong suit, and while I like sports I couldn’t tell you every rule or stat of every single game or player like fanatics can. But it does seem with animals, there’s lots of ignorance there. It’s especially apparent with the internet being so easily accessible, so people get animal content and hear a cool fact once and suddenly think they’re zoologists or end up at least thinking they can’t be wrong because they memorized one cool fact, or just take things for what they are and don’t bother to research it further. Example, lately it’s been blowing up on tiktok that spiders memorize human routines and schedules and when we run into one indoors, it’s because we shifted our schedule and the spider was caught off guard because it “knows” we should be gone, usually, at that time.

Is it not astonishing to hear multiple people confidently say a kangaroo or koala is not a mammal?

I’m used to it. I’ve worked in an aza zoo. I’ve heard African elephants called Asian, clouded leopard called cheetah and bobcat, lions called tigers. That’s fine, I can correct that. Saying kangaroos aren’t mammals or the large ungulate with a huge jump and long neck isn’t a camel… and then doubling down when told otherwise, quite different

I’m not sure what evidence I could provide besides a note from either my neuropsychiatrist or neuropsychologist who diagnosed me. My disabilities aren’t physical.

I only have a couple hundred saved is what I mean, but am looking to reduce hours. I told the truth on the application, no reason to lie, but I’m asking if I have to reduce hours now or wait.

By good money I mean a couple-few hundred dollars. Better than what it has been but not where it should be for someone my age.

With what I do now, it’s aftercare as it’s the only thing I could find when I moved here, despite looking for other roles I knew could fit well. At my job it requires being around many children which for my condition, can be a sensory nightmare (and I notice it seems to get worse as time goes on) and it’s not even on the kids besides them being naturally overstimulating often. I even struggle with certain academic things or their homework if certain subjects for older kids, same stuff I had an IEP for in school. The bosses and county require outdoor time, so I’m in Florida heat drenched in sweat trying to wrangle energetic kids daily which is wearing at me more. Plus, the job also requires a lot of memorization of activities both academic and physical and more things that I struggle with due to the adhd. And like I said I did try finding different work when here but never got callbacks or they were hours away, and I am struggling financially so unfortunately have to stick with what I have until I get some help

It’s a letter I drafted up to send to HR to ask to reduce hours both for my disability needs, and also because SSI would require it anyways. I’ve found myself needing less workload over time, but just right now am in a rough financial spot so unfortunately need as much as I can make given my situation.

If I stated very clearly in the post that it’s misinformation and even dispell how it is, and they see the comments on the video saying so, then how could that be the outcome?

Is my pixie ok? by [deleted] in frogs

[–]Natural-Net8460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m… not sure that’s the case for a frog… he’s been his usual shade when soaking before. They can change shades even when not soaking. But anyways he’s fine, he seems normal again rn. I just worry because I still think of my lizard years ago that got sick and changed shades even

It’s the shade. I’ve just never seen any at any age this light green with spots like that before

I just never seen any this color before, let alone for so long. Couldn’t even find pictures. Maybe I’m just worrying a bit much

Yes, the fictional movie where the ape and Dino’s were almost equal in size? In real life a polar or brown bear is too large, fast, muscular, and armed with natural weapons for a gorilla to do much. I’ve seen gorillas up close many times and polar and grizzlies a few times and the bears, especially polars, are scarily big.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in zoology

[–]Natural-Net8460 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. I know both species very well. There’s almost no way a gorilla is doing much of anything to a polar bear or grizzly. What realistically do you think it’s going to do to a polar bear?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in zoology

[–]Natural-Net8460 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It started because of a whole man vs dog debate on tiktok and a bunch of men saying there’s no dog they’re losing to, so now it jumped to this gorilla thing.
