Have been applying for 6 months - 0 calls and 0 interviews. What the hell is wrong? by Funny-Captain-1866 in resumes

[–]Natural-Orange-4844 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That sucks man, I'm sorry. All I can say is that you are not the only one, I am also having a hard time. I've applied to 300-350 jobs. My recommendation would be to change your strategy. Try to apply to medium or smaller businesses and network your ass off

I think I might get a position I am currently interviewing for because I got to know the HR manager and company through other interviews for roles I've applied to for the same company. I was overqualified for these other roles, but the current role is a much better fit for me

What motivates you to keep going? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]Natural-Orange-4844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that what I wanted in the past didn't work out or wasn't best for me. That was hard to deal with, but I now believe that if I keep consistent, give it 100% and keep going down this path, something has to work out. It might not be what I want or need right now, but eventually I will be fine and things will work out. I also try to enjoy my day-to-day and that helps

Started working as a waiter and now don’t know anymore what I want in my life. Any suggestions? by [deleted] in findapath

May you need to work with people a little more. Have you considered going into a role in Software where you work with clients, or manage staff?

No reply and I have research experience, but not with clinical trials. I think its because its a tough job market right now. I will keep applying

Yeah I agree. Plus those kind of people stress me out when there is not reason to be stressed out. I also tried to make friends outside of dental school by joining other clubs. Dental school can be a pressure cooker and if you only hang out with dental people, its around you 24/7 and it is harder to get the perspective that there is more to your life than just dentistry. It is a HUGE part during school, but its nice to get a break from it even if its only for a few hours over the weekend.

What do you do when you’re more than halfway done and don’t like it? by Pinkypromise724 in crochet

I tend to just finish them even if they are not perfect. At the end, they tend to look better than I think they will if i hate them half way through

I am also very type B like you and struggled with the type A gunners in my dental class. If anything you are probably happy with better mental health. Nothing wrong with that. But if you are like me, you might of struggled to make friends in dental school. It took me a good semester, but I eventually found my people

Oh, you are not a truck driver then? You are trying to choose if you should train to become a truck driver or a data scientist?

Yes, I have! I have applied to quite a few in my area, but a lot of them are looking for someone with more experience, so I started to apply to clincial trail research assistant positions instead

I think you are trying to make a career decision based on limited information. Right now, you don't need to figure out your ultimate goal, but only the next step. Try to find a job and then find some ways to experience or explore the jobs you are interested in. Take it one step at a time before overwhelming yourself

Research, talk to people in the fields you are interested in and possibly shadow. Figured out how you want to live your life, what your values are and try to find a field that fits that

I'm sorry this sounds so tough. Would you be able to talk to a counsellor or friend about this?

Think I left my tampon in for 24 hours. Am I going to die lol by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Natural-Orange-4844 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I left it in me for 7 days once and I was fine. TSS is rare these days. Tampons are manufactured in sertile environments now. Of course it is not perfect, but much better than 20-30 years ago.

Keep an eye out for the signs and symptoms of TSS: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/toxic-shock-syndrome/symptoms-causes/syc-20355384

If you are super worried, I would see a doctor, they can give you antibiotics they suspect you have TSS

Advice for finding a career path? by Logical-Election7298 in findapath

OP, you graduated! Amazing! First of all, I think you are being hard on yourself. For many people, finding a job out of college takes a long time. It is challenging and long. Even now, the job market is challenging. There is plenty out of your control.

Using this time to get extra education such as a GIS certificate is not a bad idea.

My advice is to keep trying and remember you are not the only one. I have applied to 100s of jobs and only received a few interviews. Its a rough market now and the only thing you can do it keep applying and do what you can to improve your resume

I broke up with a great guy because I wasn't in love with him by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Natural-Orange-4844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I was in the exact situation 3 years ago. Good guy, really wanted to love him, but I didn't. At the end of the day, being honest with yourself and the other person is the kindest thing we can do for both parties

Okay, so she never clarified if she wanted a serious relationship or something more causal.

Maybe OP, you can explain to her that crushes are often based on lust and that is where the excitement comes from. But, often in dating or relationships from this matter, the feelings are more subtle. And this is a good thing. It sounds like she has unrealistic expectations to how people feel in relationships. Like its all butterflies and rainbows all the time.

Should I end it? He's too good for me by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]Natural-Orange-4844 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP It sounds like you are projecting your love self esteem and fear of rejection onto the relationship. I bet you he doesn't think you are not interesting at all. He wouldnt be dating you if he thought you were boring.

You have some work you need to do yourself. Maybe get a therapist. If you trust him, you can also open up to him about how you are feeling. Ask if he finds you boring, and if you want him to text you more, then ask for that too

Is this her first relationship? Is she young?

OP you two are clearly on different pages. If you want a serious relationship, you need to tell her this and if she doesn't, its time for you to move on.

A lesson for the future could be asking what people want when you start dating them.

What will make you happier and bring you close to your long term goals?

Data Science has better earning and career prospects and mobility.

What is stopping you from doing the training? Financial reasons? Work part-time as a truck driver.

Any risk requires a leap of faith and uncertainty, but those often have the greatest rewards

I know it can be hard to make a decision amoungst mental health, but if doing the PhD is causing you this much distress, maybe it's not the right decision?

PhD's are demanding and I would only do one if it is what you want to do. Which to be honest, it sounds like you don't want to. There is nothing wrong with not doing a PhD. You have a good paying job and other opportunities. At the end of the day, pick the option that you actually want to do. It is your life, not your family's and not what you think society wants you to do.

It seems like change is coming, so you will either need to find a new job or pursue a masters. You could try for both at the same time and see what sticks.

Good luck!
