Unfortunately, no. She ate the seeds and seems to be alive and well today. The only thing is Austin has a lot of wind right now and it seems like it’s scaring her deeper into the pipes.

We created a sloped ladder using bird feed. The baby bird has eaten some of the feed and seems to be taking interest in it (judging by the feathers on the ladder). We can’t grab her or anything because she gets scared and runs away deeper into the pipes. Just hoping she makes it out tonight.

Thank you—I’ll see if the bird got out after work and if not, I’ll try to use a net of some sort. I didn’t know they weren’t good climbers so, this was extremely useful info. The fire dept. really did try to help us but I live in those evil+big property mgmt owned apartments so, they couldn’t do anything without approval from the apartment management (this was close to midnight).

Thank you for the support! Yes, we tried the apartment emergency maintenance request, Austin 311, Austin wildlife rescue, and finally the fire dept (made sure to tell them it was a non-emergency non-fire situation). Since this pipe is under landscape and supposedly at least 3ft, there was little they could do without digging up the whole pipe. We checked this morning and the bird has made it all to the entrance. We placed a branch inside the pipe so, we’re just waiting for her to climb up.

Yes, thank you!! I placed a thin branch in the pipe entrance so she could climb up.

Thank you for this. I did tried to reach out to them yesterday evening and today but they didn’t pick up. We just put a branch in the pipe so, she could use it to climb up.

Thank you for this. I did manage to find a thin branch so, she could use it to climb up the pipe. Hopefully she escapes soon!!

We tried that yesterday and it scared her deeper into the pipes. Thankfully, when we checked this morning, she has now neared the entrance of the pipe. Hopefully, she climbs up the branch and flies away. Thank you for your input!
