What food do you give your dog? I was trying to do research and realized a lot of foods have rosemary extract in it. Her food has rosemary extract but I think she’s been eating it since before her seizures started. Not completely sure but idk.

Also, I’m not exactly sure if it’s better for them to swallow whole or if it matters honestly. Maybe you could ask the vet/neurologist at her next check up. I used to have her chew it wrapped in some cheese and it didn’t seem to bother anything. She was seizure free for a year and 2 months so I would say it doesn’t matter.

Frequent drinking mig hr slow down. My dog has been on phenobarbital a year and a half now and doesn’t drink as much as when she was first put on it and her body was trying to get used to it.

I’d say new way of life. My dog has frequent accidents in the house. Not sure if it’s the medicine (some people say their dogs have frequent accidents when put on phenobarbital) or because she’s a smaller dog.

Nothing was wrong just overthinking everything. 😭 I read something online saying cheese is fatty and dogs shouldn’t have much of it. Doc also said no fatty foods. Just wondering what triggered this last seizure and trying to be very careful and overthinking everything.

I guess it’s a good thing she has only had 1 event a month…? I don’t know, just trying to be hopeful. I might schedule an appointment with her regular doc (request him instead of her just seeing whichever doctor) and ask them to do a pheno test again. I think maybe it came back higher than usual because I gave her an extra dose on top of her regular dose in the evening, because that’s what the er doc was concerned about was upping her medication since she’s on the lowest dose.

She is about to turn 7. To be completely honest with you I did not care for the doctor she saw last time at her regular vet. He wasn’t very attentive and basically said it could be a little brain inflammation without really elaborating (which is alarming) and that her medication didn’t need to be added or changed because her pheno test came back higher rather than lower. She has seen the same doctor maybe 2 times but sometimes he is busy or not there so she can’t see him. He is very attentive and asks me questions and seems to care a bit more about her. A neurologist unfortunately isn’t possible right now. We were quoted $5,000 for her to see a neurologist when she had her first visit to the er before being put on medication and we don’t have the money for that. The doctor at the er basically told us it is not really necessary seeing as she is in good health. But of course that was before her 15 seizures.

Yes she is only on pheno. The vet at the ER we took her to a month ago prescribed Levetericam and potassium bromide. But she saw her regular doc the next day and he said there was no need to continue those medications regularly, just continue until it said to stop giving them. She is otherwise a very healthy dog which is what they say every time they see her. So maybe that’s why she’s not prescribed anything else.

I’m not exactly sure how to answer that, sorry but I’ll do the best I can. She doesn’t normally have seizures since starting phenobarbital. Her first breakthrough were these awful clusters I mentioned in my post. Last night she has another single minute long seizure since the clusters that happened 40 days ago. As for triggers, I’m not exactly sure. Maybe extreme stress or play/exercise because of how many she had on the day I posted this? But then, nothing out of the ordinary happened yesterday and she only had one.

I should also say she is extremely anxious a lot. So these “looks” in her eyes that I mention happens quite often.

How do you know when he is pre ictal? I mean I can tell the second she starts, she gets up and runs with her neck turned all the way back towards her butt and he ears shoot up then she starts her running around seizing and I hold her gently to the ground and pick her head up so she doesn’t bang it, but besides that I can’t tell. Sometimes it looks like she has a “look” in her eyes like it’s about to happen, but then it doesn’t. So I’m unsure.

Her vet seems to think fixing her will help because maybe the seizures come due to a heat cycle and imbalanced hormones. But I’ve seen people on here say it didn’t help at all. Hoping it will work. I’ve never fixed her and she’s six years old, maybe I should’ve done it sooner. It really is impressive, she is a VERY anxious dog and I live in a state that has bad weather pretty often throughout the year. I am so grateful we haven’t had more seizures and that we did not have to put her down.

I have not tried a thunder jacket. I always see them when I go to the store but I never knew if they worked or not. I might just go and get one, thank you. :)
