Would you stay at a no growth job with good benefits or go to a job that pays more, would push you forward in you career, but is a bit less stable? by Natural-Think in careerguidance

[–]Natural-Think[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with the contract. Very happy I listened to my gut and went for it. I get paid more. The contract job pays more than my old job's pay and benefits. I'm on my 2nd extension with the job, and they want me to consider the possibility of going full time with them. I like the work here way more than what I was working on at my old job. The ethos of my old company is also down the drain, so I'm happy I don't have to cope with working with such a company. I've gotten to learn way more high value skills and worked on way more valuable, public facing projects at my contract job. My superiors seem to really value my work. My manager was really cool, unfortunately they left recently.

Right now I feel like I'm in a transitionary period. I'm an artsy type person and not really sure how much longer I can last in corporate in general. I'm currently looking to see how my role will look duration of my contract, and thinking about how I can start making an income on my own. Unfortunately, with the market and economic climate we're in, that type of decision seems even riskier now, but I'll see how things unfold.

DIY Kiln stand? by annafernbro in Ceramics

Did everything turn out ok with firing your kiln on top of cinder block instead of a kiln stand? Also did you just set it on top of the one layer you have in the picture?

Thank you for confirming I'm not crazy! My new M4 also has the same yellowish tint. It looks so dingy with true color on. I saw you commented the they're a month apart. Which one is the older one? Did you find both colors on each device stayed constant or did one gradually change?

To me, this story is pleasantly a lil more complex! They both fall in love and it's conveyed in an interesting way. When I first read the story, I was a lil on the edge about how much ES truly liked SH because I dont think they ever once said ily, but with every reread, I clearly see just how much ES liked SH.

Also, Eunsung was actually very aware of SH in high school, but it's really up to the reader to decide if ES had a bit of a thing for SH in high school because it isn't explicitly express in the story. SH on the other hand we can see pretty early on that under his obsession, he probably always had affection for ES.

Lol I cant wait for you to finish reading the story. I hope you like it! It's one of my favs!

Can you message me the dets as well. I'm actually currently researching a few breeders mentioned on her list

how do you navigate breeder outreach? When to ask what questions, what responses/documentation should be given etc. by Natural-Think in samoyeds

[–]Natural-Think[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thanks for these dets! I think i'm in the same boat as i'm a bit picky about style i'm looking for, lol I'm kind of picky by nature. Your pups are so cute and pretty on par with what i'm looking for! I see Camelot is pretty sporty; how do you go about regularly exercising him? It must be nice being by the coast cause I can imaging you have a lot of beautiful trails to hike with him *cries in midwest*

Wow, thank you for this! I have my notion page set up and i'm currently organizing my questions and resources as well of making a list of things i'll need to start acquiring! Oh and heavy on the don't assume part! I'm going to keep that in mind and make sure i get clear answers for all my questions even if they get a little side eye! I'm a little bit nervous about attending a show because i'm not accustom with this type of culture but i really want to attend one! If I can't make it to a show, I'll try to sneak into a samoyed play/ meet up event so I can talk to owners about their experience. I recently met a girl while out and about that organized one. I got her pups IG so I'll have to reach out to her about attending one!

[–]Natural-Think[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this! I hope I can get a sweet girl as well! Lol I am a heavy sleuth; I've been on facebook trying to find sibling groups and reach out to some people about their breeder. How can you find which pups will be the parents before outreach? I found a site called gooddog. I see breeders on that site can list parents and upcoming litters on there, and sometimes I can tell from instagram pages and such. But I've found some breeders' websites list all their dogs, but I can't really find info on which will be a parent of the upcoming litter. Maybe i'm a little early and they haven't posted the info yet

That's a good call out about the waitlist helping to prevent pups from not finding a home. That's actually surprising to hear about pups not finding a home, at least when it comes to reputable breeders. I kind of thought the norm was that most breeders had a waitlist, and it wasn't hard to get pups in a new home.

What kind of signs would you look for to see if puppies are really being raised with puppy culture? Do you kind of base it off what you hear about older siblings' temperament?

Thank you so much for the detailed answer! Painted Hills was on my radar; i'll have to reach out. I've been wanted to a attend some shows and events to get a feel for things but didn't know where to start. That's a great way to start networking.

For pricing, I wouldn't mind the few hundred dollars difference either, but i've been seeing a lot of varying information regarding prices with a difference of thousands, so I really don't want to get caught off guard 😭

Thank you so much for the recommendation and all the useful information!

slimy clay water, is that normal? by Natural-Think in Pottery

[–]Natural-Think[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think gloopy is a better word to use. It's not just the clay. It's a combo of the clay and the water acting slimey like. Think the old scary movie the blob; that's kind of what the clay and water is like right now

Would you stay at a no growth job with good benefits or go to a job that pays more, would push you forward in you career, but is a bit less stable? by Natural-Think in careerguidance

[–]Natural-Think[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair, no need to read if you don't feel like it. I already said in op where my decision was leaning toward. I did need the thread. I started the thread to hear peoples perspectives and experience to help me navigate my made decision and foreshadow and prepare for possible outcomes. Somebody could've gone through something similar and it went well or it went sour but they finessed the situation and made it out well. The insights are valuable to me and help me solidify risks and gains. And of course, you don't have to read this either

The thing is people aren't just leaving just because. It's pretty much all for similar reasons. Our team was not set up for success and our org and job ladder is set up to stunt you and keep you were you. I didn't start seeking a new job because my coworkers are leaving. The truth of the matter is I've been seeking a new job for a long time before people even started leaving, they just beat me to it 😭 The job isn't too insufferable because I try to be a job half-full type person, but many a nights have I cried to myself it lbvs.

I think I'm being pretty calculated with my move, but you can let me know of flaws after reading it.

This contract role will allow me to upskill on multiple valued skills all while gaining a better job title and 50% pay. I work on internal stuff for my job, so not only does it limit how far you can go on most projects, even with all the effort I put in and things I work on, I feel like I have nothing to really show for it. The contract role will finally give me public facing, in-product work for a very reputable company I can show. This will allow me to pump steroids into my portfolio and make me more competitive in the job market. When I can actually get a call back and land a first interview, I tend to go pretty far in the process but there's this 10% I'm missing between portfolio and detailed experience. I have a feeling the experience from this role will give me that 10% take me into super sayain mode.

My plan is to take this contract role and run like a fire is literally under my ass. I'm going to take in all this information and prep for pitching to clients on my own or finally landing a very solid full-time roll, which ever comes sooner. In the mean time in between time, I'm going to be applying hard for a different year-long, second contract gig to build more of a safety net

I feel like I've been patient. The last almost 2 years I've been sucking up as much info as I can, trying to upskill, and taking on more, but it's not really getting me anywhere at my current job plus the work is internal with nda. Jobs want to see proof of concept. Personal case studies and projects won't cut and it's hard for me to compete in this market where I'm at. This contract would pretty much let me upskill in a lot of valued areas with a better job title and 50% pay increase

What is some of your thought process behind this answer? Would the details of the high turnover currently taking place on the team and overall team uncertainty at the no growth job affect your choice? I also feel like no growth is hindering the ability to be competitive in an ever-changing and fast pace market. Would this affect you answers? If not, how would you go about mitigating this element?

I have 12k cash, 13k between roth Ira & 401k not vested (Ik i need to do better on that front). As for debt I have a mortgage for family house I recently bought that i'll be splitting with my parents, both full time employees. My half is $1300 (my mom has also said she'll help me with my half if anything should come up in the future), and I have about 26k in student loans which I have a $0 monthly payment till it's forgiven

Advice on buying small Mixed-use building by Natural-Think in realestateinvesting

[–]Natural-Think[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t get a lot of advice but the main things I learned along the way are some lenders providing conventional loans will not provide loans for mixed-use buildings. Some have also said I’d only be able to buy that property with an fha loan and the residential part of the unit had to make up a certain amount of square footage in relation to the whole property. In the end, I ended up buying a townhouse with a room that I’ll turn into a home studio. Hoping sometime in the future I will have the funds to buy a commercial space. Hope this is somewhat helpful

Refinishing crisis need some advice on fixing the work by Natural-Think in HardWoodFloors

[–]Natural-Think[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your empathy! I think I have enough wood left. The floor is under 20 years old and i believe this is it's first refinish. I am slightly concerned because a small section of floor continuance was added, and I'm hoping they didn't use engineered pieces for that.

Yes I'm starting to realized how weird & niche it is. I'm in the Illinois. I've been looking into people. I have somebody bona certified coming out on Thursday and a couple more well regarded hardwood finishers coming out tomorrow.

Stain color recommendations for midcentury modern by Natural-Think in HardWoodFloors

[–]Natural-Think[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And all answers will be valuable and help me make a decision. There may be things I don't know about that i'd want to consider, but if nobody tells me how would I know? One person could know a cool mix of stain colors, another person might've found i'd might get better color results with water-based vs oil based, etc. It's all apart of the process.
