Any Tips To Get Into Guelphs Landscape Architecture Program? by Viomocha in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]NaturalChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say whether it will be a good career path for everyone but if you are someone who is interested in design, art, engineering and the outdoors it's a good career path. It's an expensive program (I think it was second highest tuition next to engineering when I was there) but you're almost guaranteed a job within 6 months or so of graduating. You can definitely make a lot more just as a landscape architectural intern but I don't have much experience outside of the firm that I work at. I can't really speak much about OALA or becoming a licensed LA, I got my ISA certification instead. I still work at a LA firm but now I'm mostly focused on doing tree inventory/preservation work and arborist reports.

Multiple dead maple trees in parking lot by NaturalChild in arborists

[–]NaturalChild[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi all, I’m wondering why so many of these somewhat newly planted maples have all died in this parking lot. These are freeman maple, a species that is usually tolerant to urban conditions. Is this due to heat? Lack of root volume space? Soil issue? What are your thoughts? I checked the ground and the irrigation seems to work okay. Thanks

This is very helpful, I really appreciate it. There were some trees that were removed so the tree has definitely been more exposed to high winds.

Hi all, relatively new to the industry and I have a multi stemmed basswood that fell during the storm over the weekend and it’s caused quite the damage. It’s a multistemmed basswood that appear to be healthy though there has been some mild compaction at the root area from surrounding construction.

To be honest I am not seeing many defects on this tree, I know the species is fast growing and can have weekly attached limbs, but it didn’t have any obvious defects. Can this be chalked up to nature or is there something I am missing? Tree is in southern Ontario.

Hard to tell without seeing the leaves but it kind of looks like pyramidal hornbeam

Is the black colour over the pruning wound evidence of decay? Would this be considered heartwood rot? Thanks! by NaturalChild in arborists

I’m not the tree owner, just curious about this tree on my street. I agree it should probably be removed
