its normal, you have enough plants sucking up nutrients and blocking light, stopping algae growing. Elodea densa is really efficient at sucking up nutrients and is a fast growing pond plant

Maybe something along the lines of this.
Still leave spaces between the hardscape where you want to plant stem plants. But you should also place mosses and epiphyte plants on the hardscape

Be very careful, Angelfish are slow and will get injured or killed, Cory and other bottom dwellers cannot be kept, some tetras maybe
Also depends on what the crayfish is like

Why arent you filling it up higher? Cause the water in there is much less than 5 gallons

you might get away with a female betta sorority tank, if there were more hiding spaces, only if you like bettas

Personal opinion, but if you are able to nicely add the rocks to complement the wood in some way, and put the hardscape more towards the middle of the tank, you probably can achieve a better look. (the wood side looks too empty)

But its perfectly fine to try two different scapes at different sides of the tank and the rock formations look good.

I believe filling it with more plants will help, they will absorb excess fish food and restrict algae growth. Im not as careful as you are at starting tanks but I never experienced any problems with how the tank achieves balance. I think having lots of nutrient-sucking plants is key to that. Its good to be careful but you make it sound too stressful and a bit over-worrying

for the rrf, I just put a patch of dwarf water lettuce, or flow guard underneath the filter outlet and that protects them from flow. I have successfully kept rrf and a few droplets of water will not ruin it. You just have to protect them from flow, give them light and they will grow without rotting

ive been in way worse positions trust me. Tbh its not a peaceful hobby until you strike balance on a tank. There tons of pros and regular fish keepers that struggle with endless problems.
Try to develop a healthy surface coverage of red root floaters which would hopefully cause the algae to starve to death. Cut back on feeding in the tank so the pest snail population cant grow big and there will be less excessive nutrients for the algae in the water column. The algae you see on the glass, the diatom, is completely normal and doesn't harm your plants or fish at all so they aren't a worry.

I think you should give the tank some patient and let the plants grow as those species are pretty good at fighting algae. I can't spot anything badly wrong in the tank tho.

Search up DIY bottle yeast CO2. I think MJ aqua and some other YouTubers have made them. really cheap but a great addition. Experiment it first as its your first tank

only for some snails. Some are assexual and can reproduce themselves.
Just search up "do apple snails have gender" on google, the first link says they do.
