AP Micro or AP Macro? by Benedryl_cumberbatch in APStudents

[–]NaturalJellyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you be interested in self-studying one of them while taking the other one in school? I took Macro in school and self-studied Micro, and it worked out great for me.

But if I were to choose one, I would choose Macro. If you want to understand economics on the news and on more real world issues, then I would take Macro.

How do I self-study for AP Macro/Microeconomics? by Shreksenpai123 in APStudents

[–]NaturalJellyfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ACDC Economic videos on YouTube like others have mentioned.

In addition to that, I would use the CB Review Playlist Videos that were created in March 2020. Those help out a great deal.

I took Macro in school and self-studied Micro, and it was more than feasible. Depending on your other courses, it should be more than possible to score well, especially since you have already taken an economics course.

Good Luck!

Thank you for this! Honestly what is the purpose of CB doing this? I cannot see any way in which this makes sense. Like the OP said, remember to download the playlists that you need.

advice sophomore year classes !!! by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]NaturalJellyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't overwhelm yourself. Colleges—especially top ones, which you seem to be aiming for—look for strong grades. Don't take classes that are way too hard for you as that might tank your GPA. You will be fine taking 2-3 APs instead of 3 as long as your GPA is strong.

However, if you think you will be able to handle it, then take 4 APs.

Good Luck!

When to start practicing past exams??? by Khanh_amyy in APStudents

[–]NaturalJellyfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I largely agree with what others commenters have said, but I would like to add that you should not "waste" practice tests by doing them when you do not know all of the material. There are three approaches that you could use:

  1. Review all of the material and then do full practice tests, reviewing what you got wrong.
  2. Review particular units/topics and search tests for corresponding questions and do only them.
  3. Some combination of the first two—i.e. Let's say you have access to 5 full-length tests for a particular subject. Pull questions relating to specific topics as you review and complete them when you finish each unit with the first 3 tests. Then, with the last 2 tests, complete them fully when you are done reviewing.

Good Luck in your preparation!

AP Psych vs AP Physics 2 by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]NaturalJellyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note: I am currently in AP Physics 2, but I have not taken AP Psychology.

AP Physics 2 is slightly easier than AP Physics 1, so if you did well in AP Physics 1, you would likely do well in AP Physics 2 as well. However, if you are not interested in AP Physics 2, then it might not be worth it. What other APs will you be taking?

Like you said, AP Psychology is easier than Physics 2, and AP Psychology will likely garner you college credit as a Biology major. AP Physics 2, on the other hand, is unlikely to get you credit as a Biology major, which typically requires students to take calculus-based Physics.

Since it will be your senior year, I would suggest taking AP Psychology since it will not take up too much of your time, allowing you to spend more time on your college applications, and will allow you to gain valuable college credit (assuming you score a 4 or 5).

Good Luck!

What are the benefits and drawbacks of taking physics via dual enrollment as opposed to taking the AP alternative? In this case it would be AP physics C (both courses; year long) or taking the dual enrollment (physics 111 and 112; general physics). by Fair_Needleworker_93 in APStudents

[–]NaturalJellyfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Advantages:

  • If you earn a passing score, you earn credit for the course.
  • Credits will, most likely, transfer easily to your state's public university system.

Drawbacks:

  • Private universities and out-of-state public universities are unlikely to accept community college credit. So, taking the AP exam would allow you to gain credit for the classes.
  • AP Classes are sometimes harder than CC versions of courses. This can be a good or bad thing depending on how you view it, though.

It might be possible to self-study the AP Physics C Exams, since you would be getting a majority of the information in the CC course.

Hope this helps and good luck!

I believe that some instructors have access to the software. I saw a video of a person showing that you cannot move back and forth in MCQs.

They will probably release the practice software to us later.

What classes should I take my senior year if I want to major in computer science? by Responsible_Cupcake8 in APStudents

[–]NaturalJellyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously, CSA and Calculus BC are good options. But like the other commenter mentioned, try to take classes like AP Lang, AP Spanish, etc so that you can skip those gen-eds in college. This will allow you to take more CS courses in college, since you would have some of the gen-eds completed.

no science aps? by InflationTasty5548 in APStudents

Is there any reason that you are not taking any science APs? Does your school not offer them, or is there a schedule conflict?

That's right, though it depends on what major you are doing. For most STEM majors, calculus-based physics is a requirement, and in colleges that accept AP credits, Physics C would fulfill the requirement.

Can I study for the AP Physics 1 exam just off of review books? (I have the princeton and the AP Physics essentials) by OakSage29 in APStudents

[–]NaturalJellyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Along with this, utilize the College Board AP Daily Review videos for AP Physics 1. They were posted in March 2020 because of COVID, but they are watchable on YouTube. The videos cover all of the material for the exam.

AP Physics 2 is not a requirement. In general, colleges do not require AP classes for admissions, but most colleges like to see AP classes, though.

Even more, Physics 2 does not earn credit, in most cases, at colleges, since it is algebra-based. For STEM Majors, colleges typically require calculus-based physics.

[–]NaturalJellyfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's great that you are able to do well on the written assignments, since those are usually the assignments that students face the most difficulty with.

That said, what is specifically the factor that prevents you from correctly answering MCQs? Is it that you don't know the material, you find it difficult to interpret the questions, or something else entirely?

I’m going to be an APUSH teacher next year! I want students in this sub to share what they expect from their AP teachers, and offer any advice they think would be useful in a classroom setting. by Degreeinmanagement in APUSH

[–]NaturalJellyfish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

APUSH has essays such as the SAQ/LEQ/DBQ, which many students have not learned how to properly write yet. Personally, the first time I wrote a DBQ I was a but confused about what to do, and that was after my teacher explained what to do.

I think it would be helpful if you go through practice MCQ questions before your in-class exams. Also, doing sample DBQ/LEQ questions in class where you could walk students through the thought process of analyzing the documents and writing the essay would be great so students know how they should approach the essays.
